I exchanged my device's HM-10 for an HM-18, since HM-10 does not support DLE, but this does not work, and seemes to have rendered the HM-10 module useless.

I think I misunderstood your answer. You may be asking why I think the speed is restricted. I may be mistaken in that it might be the BLE baud rate that is restricted until one joins the group. I have solved the problem with the label speed of print but would like to increase the rate at which the app can receive data through Bluetooth Low Energy.
