I am doubling down on the update time being ridiculous. Also, there's nothing to be surprised of. After all, it's an officially supported machine, running an officially supported OS and officially supported Xcode. Your answer is barely helpful at all, save 'for the downloading and extracting on a more recent/faster Mac' part, which is probably what I am going to try. Thanks for that. Have you actually tried doing this?
