Well it's just something that integrates well with my existing code base. I originally developed for Mapbox but became frustrated as I recently added satellite maps which are unfortunately very poor in Mapbox, so I've decided to migrate my project to MapKit. I've built out lots of functionality with Metal overtop a spherical mapview that I'm confident I can translate to MapKit, but it was all built using a spherical Mapbox map. I should've looked more into Mapbox's satellite maps earlier 🤦‍♂️
