Same issue.
No proxies.
Reading all of the above as well as other numerous discussions on this topic:
I backed everything up to an XHD.
Started in Safe mode.
Attempted to upgrade to Monterey several times.
Network connection lost.
This is the first Mac in decades of usership that I have ever had so many problems. I have had to send it in for service at least 4 times.
This model series seems to be a buggy ol' lemon.
