The accessory is an intermediary with its own battery that can either be connected to a data source to power the source and pass the data along to the iOS device or to a charging source to charge the accessory battery & the iOS device battery. in the case of charging, we do expect power to be supplied to the iOS device but when the intermediary is passing along data as a client, we do not intend to supply power to the iOS device.

Some additional follow-up: It sounds likely that iOS 17 wasn't drawing power when it should have been with these USB-C connections. The accessory firmware was 3rd party developed so I am getting up to speed with it to supply the best information possible here. Is there some unique flag to set to prevent supplying power as a USB client? Additionally, I can provide our MFi account# and product plan ID if that would help open up some more information.
