Rejected - 3.1.1 Business: Payments - In-App Purchase
My app got rejected and I cannot figure out how to move forward. The app: It's a marketplace for social media content. There are two user groups: influencers and brands. Influencers use a iOS app to find brands they want to work with. They can select a brand, read their brief and send a collaboration proposal. The collaboration proposal is a draft of an Instagram post/story (image or a video). The brand receive the collaboration proposal by mail and can then move from there to a web interface where they can review the content and make the purchase. The payment is done by credit card and we are using Stripe for that. The influencer is then finalizing the collaboration by posting the Instagram post / story on their Instagram and receives the payment. Influencers can also, in the app, view previous collaborations done by other influencers with brands registered in the service, as inspiration help them create their own content. Rejected: The most recent message from Apple is: Guideline 3.1.1 - Business - Payments - In-App Purchase We continue to notice that your app does not let users purchase access to the paid digital service or content, accessed by the app, using the in-app purchase API. It would be appropriate to ensure that users are able to purchase access to the paid content or features, using in-app purchasing. Next Steps The paid digital content, services, or subscriptions included in or accessed by your app must be available for purchase using in-app purchase. Apps that offer paid digital services and content across multiple platforms may allow customers to access the content they acquired outside the app as long as it is also available for purchase using in-app purchase. Please see Guideline 3.1.3(b) Multiplatform Services for more information. Apple's message above was a response to my last message: “3.1.3(b) Multiplatform Services: Apps that offer paid digital services and content across multiple platforms may allow customers to access the content they acquired outside the app as long as it is also available for purchase using in-app purchase.” Answer: Physical service. A collaboration is not a digital service, it is as a physical service: the influencer is promoting the brand by posting an Instagram post or story, in real life. The collaboration proposals that can be viewed in the app under “Latest content” are not worth anything to anyone, they are just there to inspire the app users (influencers) to create their own collaboration proposals. The value is the final Instagram post / story. Refund. Because a collaboration is a physical service it cannot me refunded like a digital product. Once an influencer has posted the collaboration on their Instagram account, it is too late to take back. The service is delivered. If a brand where to refund their purchase after the Instagram post has been live for a few hours, that would be fraudulent to the influencer. Real-time. Collabys core feature is the real-time interactions between influencers and brands. The salary is transferred automatically and instantly (max 5 min) to the influencer bank account when the collaboration is posted on Instagram by the influencer. This would not be possible if the collaboration was paid for with in-app purchase because of the delay between the Apple and Collaby bank account. Please tell me if I have misunderstood your feedback and please give me some concrete advises on how to proceed. Suggestion: Can I charge brands to use the app to view their received collaboration proposals, a one-time off fee? Would that be a solution to move forward? Are they really not accepting the fact that an Instagram collaboration is a physical service and can not be refunded like digital product? Have I misunderstood Apple, will I get accepted if I just add an in-app purchase for brands to use the app to view their already paid for content? In that case, why are they not just saying so? Any advice is much appreciated at this point.
