Xcode freezes when I click on LaunchScreen.storyboard

This is my first app development experience with swift. I am using XCode version 10.1. I simply started a new project with a single page app. Even if I simply click on LaunchScreen.storyboard or Main.storyboard, XCode freezes. Has anyone seen this before?

Probably, when you created the project, you did not define it correctly.

You should:
  • create new project

  • select iOS App in the first screen

  • in the next screen where you enter product name, select Storyboard as interface (not SwiftUI) and UIKit App Delegate as lifecycle and Swift as language.

Does it work this way ? If so, don't forget to close the thread.
Xcode 10.1 is not used a lot anymore… Maybe you should move to Xcode 11.3 at least, if you have enough RAM and disk space.

Is it a recent Xcode installation ?
How did you install Xcode ?
Did you restart the Mac after installing ? You should try.

Does it happen when you create a new project ?

How much RAM have you ?

I have to not been developing much lately... so everything on my Mac was outdated. I decided to develop an app a few days and this is when my MAC installed MacOS Big Sur. After the update was completed, XCode didn't start because of several issues one of which is described here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/58689699/xcode-not-opening-after-updating-to-macos-catalina

Anyway I followed other developer recommendations and finally managed to launch XCode. so I started to create a new project but then I had this freeze issue whenever I clicked on either LaunchScreen.storyboard or Main.storyboard.
I have plenty of disk space and RAM. I will try XCode 11.3. Thanks for the tip.

If you have plenty of space and BigSur, I recommend to download Xcode 12.

But don't use 12.3 it is really buggy.
Stay with 12.2 that you will find here: https://developer.apple.com/download/more/

Don't forget to close the thread once you're done and flying.
Good luck.
I have downloaded Xcode 12.2 but now I don’t see anymore the model/view/controller way of developping/displaying app as I learned it in a course. Instead Xcode shows the following follets: Shared, iOS, macOS, and other tests folders. Where can I find some courses on how to develop an app with Xcode. Thanks a lot for any hints that could help me continue.

This worked for me. Thanks.
