I've got an external Dell monitor attached to my M1 Big Sur MacBook Air that's rotatable. I tried swiveling the monitor into the 90° position and set the Display Preference "Rotation" to the same to let the system know, but decided ultimately that I prefer the standard landscape orientation. However while I can reset the Display Preference to 0°, it doesn't stick. Every time the machine goes to sleep and then reawakens, the monitor thinks it's still in the 90° position and I have to manually reset the Display Preference back to "Standard" (0°) again. This works until the next time my machine goes to sleep and is reawakened again. This is frustrating.
There's a /Library/Preferences file called "com.apple.windowserver.displays.plist" that contains several references to the external monitor and its 90° setting, but I don't know if this file is editable and am reluctant to fiddle with it, assuming I even can. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
