Is there a way to multiselect a variety of airplay 2 speakers as the default speakers for the apple tv (gen4 4k). I have also tried aggregating them in the home app under one labeled system, however the apple tv does not seem to recognize the speaker group (Sonos arc, two ones, and sub grouped together, and two homepod minis).
Default speaker selection
The default speaker selection in tvOS 15.0 is a disaster for me using a projector. I just selected my AirPlay speaker in previous version of tvOS and it worked beautifully and the selection persisted over time. Just the way I wanted it. With tvOS 15.0 I can no longer select my AirPlay speaker as the default speaker. The only option is my projectors small and lousy built in speakers. My AirPlay speakers can only be selected as temporary speakers and this selection doesn't persist. This is pretty annoying since I now have to manually first have to deselect the projectors built in speakers and then select my AirPlay speaker as a temporary speaker. This setup doesn't persist so I have to do it each time I want to watch TV on the projector. Dear developers, please consider other use cases than the Apple TV hooked up to a TV set or a HDMI enabled amplifier. Think a projector in the ceiling where the HDMI cable has to go, with built in speakers that has to be bypassed and sound being routed to a sound system another 20 meters away. That is my situation and my Apple TV 4k has worked perfectly in this setup for years until tvOS 15.0 totally broke it. These problems together with sound being out of sync to AirPlay 1 speakers persist with the latest beta.
So true. I have about the same ! tvos 14.2 with several airplay 2 speakers in the mix; HomePods, HomePods mini, bang Olufsen
never was and still not it’s possible to have the b&o as a default output.
but
daily usage of the b&o used to be, just swipe down, once or twice to the right and select the speaker and off you go. That audio part is gone now from the top pulled down menu simple, quick, and one can keep watching the image on the screen;
now - and this has seriously lowered the Wife acceptance factor at our little apple tv- HomeKit home - one has to keep pressing the little tv icon for some seconds, the menu takes over the screen, select speaker, press back some times (but not too much as you wil exit the running airplay program or show)
(also - yes a while ago - the remote.app was way quicker in use than the control centre version. Tapping an app is just quicker than swiping the control centre and tapping the remote icon, 2x the hassle!
when we are still having this trip down memory lane: the change of behaviour of the green traffic light in a window to “full screen” instead of “zoom to defined size” are really big losses I think)
unfortunately its not possible to downgrade my atv4hd to 14.2 because no USB port .. soo sad
Same problem here, I would also like to set my Sonos speakers connected over airplay to be the default audio for my Apple TV - annoying to have to set it every time.
Same here, I have to manually select my sonos. This is annoying. Please give us an option to select them as default speakers in the next update. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Major disappointment that Apple still hasn’t addressed this issue in any shape or form after all this time — or am I missing something? To see Apple make their software even worse for customer experience, considering the assumed vast number of customers affected, is not impressive.
