Need help with Mac Terminal, XCode, and un-xipping

Hi. I got a .xip file of XCode (12.4) that was compatible for my Mac with the Catalina OS.

I ran this code after I had done the cd command to my desired folder in my external HDD:

`xip -x XCODE.xip /Volumes/ExternalHDD/FolderWhereIwantittobeexpandedto

My external HDD has more than 800GB left, but when the process started, cmd started telling me that I had no space left. Upon checking, my mac was down to 12 MB of storage on its main drive. I aborted it and stopped.

My question is, where do I find these files? There's no XCode in the folder I wanted to, is it cache? If so, how do I find and delete them? Thank you very much.

P.S. I'm new here

where do I find these files?

According to "man xip":

 --expand <input-file>
Expands the archive into the current working directory.
