Can I create an app for my own phone for free?

I’m not a programmer, and it’s unlikely I’d succeed, but I enjoy dabbling in programming and wondered if I can make a little app for myself, for my own personal use, not to sell or publish on the App Store. With out having to $99. I’ve installed Xcode, and have a sample app I got from Adafruit on connecting to a Bluetooth device to be able to control something like turning on/off a device. It will build in the simulator but not when I try to install it on my phone.

Yes you can !

Just install Xcode and connect your iPhone to generate code for it.

Only constraint is that you will need to rebuild code every week. But that is a minor constraints as you have the Mac, the iPhone and the code.

But you say:

have a sample app I got from Adafruit

can you explain ?

.

It will build in the simulator but not when I try to install it on my phone.

Could you explain in detail how you proceed and what error message you get.

Also, check that you have paired the iPhone with Xcode on Mac (use Devices and Simulators in Windows menu)
