How can I see what state the app was purchased in?

Hawaii state GE tax requires an additional 4.5% tax on each app sold only in the state of Hawaii.

Problem: The state of where the app was purchased is not listed!

The tax office is trying to tell me that Apple has the state info but it is not listed in the sales and trends or analytics. I called the developers # and they said that they do not have this info. The state said that the law says I have to pay the tax on every single app sold in the US if I can't show proof of the number of apps sold in state and out of state for the US. Urg!!!! Does anyone know of a way to see what states the app was purchased in? Please help, I really dont want to have to over pay tax when I should not have to. Mahalo in advance for any help!

This isn't brick/mortar. AFAIK, there is no way for the dev to reliably track/validate/certify an individual app store purchase based strictly on US state lines.

I can think of ways you could try, but at that point, you might as well pull a number out of the air as far as the State is concerned.

Seems odd this hasn't come up before...must be a new requirement?

Did you ever get this resolved? Worst case pay the wholesale tax rate of 1/2 of 1 percent as opposed to 4.8%.
