iOS 27 Beta 1: iPhone 17 reverted to Old Siri instead of New Siri.

My phone no longer shows the waitlist for Siri and has the option to "Try New Siri." I select it, continue, continue and the settings change to "Siri (Beta)" and the waitlist option is no longer there, but when using Siri it's the old pre-Apple Intelligence Siri that activates (little bubble at the bottom) and it does not work.

Going to Safari and typing "Siri://" opens the New Siri App, but it says "Siri Update in Progress; Adding support for Siri hasn't completed. Open Settings to check the status." The app does not show up in Spotlight.

My phone is done Indexing and all signs point to my phone being enrolled to use the New Siri, but it isn't working at all and still has not shown up. I've tried restarting a few times. Anyone experiencing this too?

Well, I fixed the problem by restoring to iOS 26 from new. I tried from a backup but the problem persisted. when starting new without backup, new Siri now works as intended. Worth it? We’ll see. But it works! (i like a fresh start from time to time anyway)

Yes I am I’m on. A iPhone 16 pro max but it reversed my Siri to the older model

me too! dont know what do to, but found that when you search up "siri://" in safari it opens the siri app that says "Siri Update In Progress." It works on my Macbook air M4 but for some reason not my iPhone 17 pro max

Same with me as well

Had the same issue. Several restarted did not fix it by:

  1. switching back to United States English from British, then turning Siri off, all hey siri, listen, tap to talk settings off as well
  2. restarting iphone
  3. Toggling settings back on
  4. Going back to desired Siri language (I believe only English is supported for beta Siri to work As of devbeta 1)
  5. Opening Siri app (this forced an update and restored functionality and my conversations.)

I'm experiencing exactly the same issue. I'm also using an iPhone 17 Pro, and my situation is almost identical. The "Try New Siri" option appears, I can go through the setup process, and the settings change to "Siri (Beta)", but when I actually use Siri, it still launches the old Siri interface instead of the new Apple Intelligence version.

I also noticed that opening siri:// through Safari launches the new Siri app, but it gets stuck on "Siri Update in Progress" and says that adding support for Siri hasn't completed. The app also doesn't appear in Spotlight.

From my perspective, this looks like the device is already enrolled for the new Siri, but something during the activation, download, or registration process is stuck.

Personally, I wouldn't downgrade back to iOS 26 and completely restore my iPhone just to fix this one feature. My iPhone 17 Pro is working perfectly otherwise, and going through a full restore, reinstalling everything, or setting up the phone as a new device is a lot of effort for something that will most likely be fixed in a future iOS 27 update.

I know some people have fixed the issue by restoring to iOS 26 and setting up the phone as new, and I'm glad that worked for them. However, unless Siri AI is absolutely essential for your daily use, I personally don't think it's worth going through all that trouble right now.

If you're not comfortable with restoring iOS or setting up your iPhone from scratch, I would recommend waiting for the next update and seeing if Apple fixes the issue. It seems more likely to be a software, activation, or registration issue rather than a hardware problem.
