While watching WWDC25: Code-along: Elevate an app with Swift concurrency at timestamp 25:48, I noticed something in the slide/diagram that might be incorrect.
The diagram shows ExtractSticker twice, but based on the code context and spoken explanation, I think it was meant to be ExtractSticker and ExtractColor.
Reasoning:
The surrounding code and narration describe the use of async let and a Sendable Data object.
From the flow, one task extracts a sticker while the other extracts a color, so it seems like the diagram is inconsistent.
I do understand that with @concurrent, having two ExtractSticker operations on the same Data is technically possible (with two concurrent process executing their respective ExtractSticker) — but that would be a different meaning than what the talk was describing.
Since concurrency is already a subtle and error-prone topic, I thought it was worth pointing this out. If I’m mistaken, I’d love clarification. Otherwise, this could be a small correction to keep things aligned and clearer for everyone.
Minor point overall, but Swift 6’s concurrency model is doing a fantastic job at helping us write safer code—so thank you to the team for that!

Hey team I'm facing an issue where startDate is 1 January 2025 and endDate is 31 March 2025 between this 2 dates is 90 days, but on my code is being taken as 89 days
I've seen the math of the code excludes the first partial day (from midnight to 06:00) on 2025-01-01, which results in 89 full days instead of 90 days.

Hi,
I am exploring Closures and trying to understand how they works. Closure have a special key feature that they can capture the context of the variables/constants from surroundings, once captured we can still use them inside the closure even if the scope in which they are defined does not exist.
I want to understand the lifecycle of captured variable/constant i.e., where are these captured variables stored and when these get created and destroyed.
How is memory managed for captured variables or constants in a closure, depending on whether they are value types or reference types?

I'm using Network Framework to transfer files between 2 devices. The "secondary" device sends file requests to the "primary" device, and the primary sends the files back.
When the primary gets the request, it responds like this:

It works great, even for hundreds of file requests. The problem arises if some files being requested are extremely large, like 600MB. You can see the memory speedometer on the primary quickly ramp up to the yellow zone, at which point iOS kills the app for high memory use, and you see the Jetsam log.
I changed the code to skip JSON encoding the binary file as a test, and that helped a bit, but it still goes too high; the real offender is the step where it loads the 600MB file into the data var:

If I remark out everything else and just leave that one line, I can still see the memory use spike.
As a fix, I'm rewriting this so the secondary requests the file in 5MB chunks by telling the primary a byte range such as "0-5242880" or "5242881-10485760", and then reassembling the chunks on the secondary once they all come in. So far this seems promising, but it's a fair amount of work.
My question: Does Network Framework have a built-in way to stream those bytes straight from disk as it sends them? So that I could send all the data in one single request without having to load the bytes into memory?

In C#, one can define associated functions by the following.
Notice that "Declarations DE" is a reference to a function in another C# project file. This lets the compiler know that there are other references in the project.
Likewise, "Form_Load" is the entry point of the code, similar to "main" in C. Any calls to related functions can be made in this section, to the functions that have been previously defined above.
So I set out trying to find similar information about SwiftUI, and found several, but only offer partial answers to my questions.

The most confusing thing for me, is where is "main"?
I found several examples that call functions from the structure shown above, BUT I have no reason as to why.
So one web example on StackOverFlow called the function from position 1. That did not work.
Position 2 worked to call the function at position 3, but really, why?
All this activity brings up a lot of questions for me, such as:
Does SwiftUI need function callouts similar to C#, and they are called out even before running "main". I seem to recall Borland Delphi being this way as well.
How does SwiftUI make references to other classes (places where other functions are stored in separate files)?
Does SwiftUI actually make use of "main" in the normal sense, i.e. similar to C, C#, Rust and so on?
I did notice that once a SwiftUI function is called, it makes reference to data being passed very similar to other languages, at least for the examples I found.
Note that I looked at official SwiftUI documentation, but did not come across information that answers the above.

Hey everyone,
I’m learning async/await and trying to fetch an image from a URL off the main thread to avoid overloading it, while updating the UI afterward. Before starting the fetch, I want to show a loading indicator (UI-related work). I’ve implemented this in two different ways using Task and Task.detached, and I have some doubts:
Is using Task { @MainActor the better approach?
I added @MainActor because, after await, the resumed execution might not return to the Task's original actor. Is this the right way to ensure UI updates are done safely?
Does calling fetchImage() on @MainActor force it to run entirely on the main thread?
I used an async data fetch function (not explicitly marked with any actor). If I were to use a completion handler instead, would the function run on the main thread?
Is using Task.detached overkill here?
I tried Task.detached to ensure the fetch runs on a non-main actor. However, it seems to involve unnecessary actor hopping since I still need to hop back to the main actor for UI updates. Is there any scenario where Task.detached would be a better fit?

In the example below, the vector contains a mix of integer and float literals. The result is a vector with a type of Vector<Double>. Since the values of the vector are inferred as Double then I expect the print output to display as decimal numbers. However, the .number formatted output seems to ignore the vector type and print the values as a mix of integers and decimals. This is fixed by explicitly providing a format style with a fraction length. So why is the .formatted(.number) method ignoring the vector type T which is Double in this example?

I’m stuck with repeated production crashes in my SwiftUI app and I can’t make sense of the traces on my own.
The symbolicated reports show the same pattern:
Crash on com.apple.CFNetwork.LoaderQ with EXC_BAD_ACCESS / PAC failure
Always deep in CFNetwork, most often in
URLConnectionLoader::loadWithWhatToDo(NSURLRequest*, _CFCachedURLResponse const*, long, URLConnectionLoader::WhatToDo)
No frames from my code, no sign of AuthManager or tokens.
What I’ve tried:
Enabled Address Sanitizer,
Malloc Scribble,
Guard Malloc,
Zombies.
Set CFNETWORK_DIAGNOSTICS=3 and collected Console logs.
Stress-tested the app (rapid typing, filter switching, background/foreground, poor network with Network Link Conditioner).
Could not reproduce the crash locally.
So far:
Logs show unrelated performance faults (I/O on main thread, CLLocationManager delegate), but no obvious CFNetwork misuse.
My suspicion is a URLSession lifetime or delegate/auth-challenge race, but I can’t confirm because I can’t trigger it.
Since starting this investigation, I also refactored some of my singletons into @State/@ObservedObject dependencies. For example, my app root now wires up AuthManager, BackendService, and AccountManager (where API calls happen using async/await) as @State properties:

Given the crash location (URLConnectionLoader::loadWithWhatToDo), can Apple provide guidance on known scenarios or misuses that can lead to this crash?
Is there a way to get more actionable diagnostics from CFNetwork beyond CFNETWORK_DIAGNOSTICS to pinpoint whether it’s session lifetime, cached response corruption, or auth/redirect?
Can you also confirm whether my dependency setup above could contribute to URLSession or backend lifetime issues?
I can’t reliably reproduce the crash, and without Apple’s insight the stack trace is effectively opaque to me.

Hello, I was hoping to clarify my understanding of the use of for await with an AsyncStream. My use case is, I'd like to yield async closures to the stream's continuation, with the idea that, when I use for await with the stream to process and execute the closures, it would only continue on to the following closure once the current closure has been run to completion.
At a high level, I am trying to implement in-order execution of async closures in the context of re-entrancy. An example of asynchronous work I want to execute is a network call that should write to a database:

I am write a swift test built by SPM testTarget(). I can see it generates a bundle ./.build/x86_64-apple-macosx/debug/MyProjectTests.xctest with an executable:

This bundle file cannot be executed. How can I execute its tests?
I tried with xcodebuild test-without-building -xctestrun ./.build/x86_64-apple-macosx/debug/MyProjectPackageTests.xctest -destination 'platform=macOS' without any chance.
Obviously the next question is can I 'simply' add entitlement to this bundle with codesign to fix my enttilement error.
My error when running the test is A required entitlement isn't present.

What could cause such crashes? Could they be caused by anything other than concurrent access from multiple threads (which I'm quite sure is not the case here, as I only access these arrays from the main thread)?

For a value of 6737.015 when calculating the square root:
Using the sqrt(_:) function gives the result 82.07932,
While using the vForce.sqrt(_:result:) function gives the result 82.07933.
Using a calculator, the value comes out as 82.07932139, which shows that the result from vForce is incorrect.

Please do you know why the parsing may be failing? Is it significant that in the debugging window the JSON is displaying backslashes before the quotation marks?

I’m trying to create a property wrapper that that can manage shared state across any context, which can get notified if changes happen from somewhere else.
I'm using mutex, and getting and setting values works great. However, I can't find a way to create an observer pattern that the property wrappers can use.
The problem is that I can’t trigger a notification from a different thread/context, and have that notification get called on the correct thread of the parent object that the property wrapper is used within.
I would like the property wrapper to work from anywhere: a SwiftUI view, an actor, or from a class that is created in the background. The notification preferably would get called synchronously if triggered from the same thread or actor, or otherwise asynchronously. I don’t have to worry about race conditions from the notification because the state only needs to reach eventuall consistency.

All of the examples below are using the property wrapper within a @MainActor class. However the same issue happens no matter what context I use the wrapper in: The notification callback is never called on the context the property wrapper was created with.
I’ve tried using @isolated(any) to capture the context of the wrapper and save it to be called within the state in with unchecked sendable, which doesn’t work:

Making the property wrapper a class

All of these don’t work, because the event is never called from the thread the property wrapper resides in.
Is it possible at all to create an observation system that notifies the observer from the same context as where the observer was created?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a json array showing in Xcode debugger (from the line "print(dataString)"):

Please do you know why the parsing may be failing? Is it significant that in the debugging window the JSON is displaying backslashes before the quotation marks?
