Vision Pro - Throw object by hand
Hello All, I'm desperate to found a solution and I need your help please. I've create a simple cube in Vision OS. I can get it by hand (close my hand on it) and move it pretty where I want. But, I would like to throw it (exemple like a basket ball). Not push it, I want to have it in hand and throw it away of me with a velocity and direction = my hand move (and finger opened to release it). Please put me on the wait to do that. Cheers and thanks Mathis

Loading USDZ asset into Model3D causes visionOS 2.0 beta 5 to crash
We've recently discovered that our app crashes on startup on the latest visionOS 2.0 beta 5 (22N5297g) build. In fact, the entire field of view would dim down and visionOS would then restart, showing the Apple logo. Interestingly, no app crash is reported by Xcode during debug. After investigation, we have isolated the issue to a specific USDZ asset in our app. Loading it in a sample, blank project also causes visionOS to reliably crash, or become extremely unresponsive with rendering artifacts everywhere. This looks like a potentially serious issue. Even if the asset is problematic, loading it should not crash the entire OS. We have filed feedback FB14756285, along with a demo project. Hopefully someone can take a look. Thanks!

Building a custom render pipeline with RealityKit
Hello experts, and question seekers, I have been trying to get Gaussian splats working with RealityKit, however it seems not to work out for me. The library I use for Gaussian splatting: https://github.com/scier/MetalSplatter My idea was to use the renderers provided by RealityKit (aka RealityRenderer) https://developer.apple.com/documentation/realitykit/realityrenderer and the renderer provided by MetalSplatter (aka. SplatRenderer) https://github.com/scier/MetalSplatter/blob/main/MetalSplatter/Sources/SplatRenderer.swift Then with a custom render pipeline, I would be able to compose the outputs of the renderers, enabling the possibility, for example to build immersive scenery with realistic environment scans, as Gaussian splats, and RealityKit to provide the necessary features to build extra scenery around Gaussian splats, eg. dynamic 3D models inside Gaussian splats. However the problem is, as of now I am not able to do that with the current implementation of RealityRenderer. It seems to be, that first RealityRenderer is supposed to be an API, just to render colour information onto a texture, which in first glance might be useful, but misses important information, such as for example depth, and stencil information. Second issue is, even with that in mind, currently I am not able to execute RealityRenderer.updateAndRender, due to the following error messages: Could not resolve material name 'engine:BuiltinRenderGraphResources/Common/realityRendererBackground.rematerial' in bundle at '/Users//Library/Developer/CoreSimulator/Devices//data/Containers/Bundle/Application//.app'. Loading via asset path. exiting spatial tracking service update thread because wait returned 37” I was able to build a custom Metal view with UIViewRepresentable, MTKView, and MTKViewDelegate, enabling me to build a custom rendering pipeline, by utilising some of the Metal developer workflows. Reference: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/xcode/metal-developer-workflows/ Inside draw(in view: MTKView), in a class derived by MTKViewDelegate: guard let currentDrawable = view.currentDrawable else { return } let realityRenderer = try! RealityRenderer() try! realityRenderer.updateAndRender(deltaTime: 0.0, cameraOutput: .init(.singleProjection(colorTexture: currentDrawable.texture)), whenScheduled: { realityRenderer in print("Rendering scheduled") }, onComplete: { RealityRenderer in print("Rendering completed") }) Can you please tell me, what I am doing wrong? Is there any solution, that enables me to use RealityKit with for example Gaussian splats? Any help is greatly appreciated. All the best, Ethem Kurt

How to trigger actions by OnCollision in Behaviors Component
It's all about notifications to trigger actions from RCP's new Timeline system. From Compose interactive 3D content in Reality Composer Pro I am actually starting to confuse why there was need to use Entity.applyTapForBehaviors in code to trigger content in Behaviors Component. Simply because in Behaviors Component, we have chosen OnTap to allow a "Tap Notification" to trigger our action (on a selected target object). Then I guess by selecting OnCollision this trigger, I should write something like CollisionEvent.entityA.applyCollisionForBehaviors, which we don't have. And ofc the collision on my object won't trigger this action (because I only did things in RCP not in code). Ignoring this post has pointed out we could use Behaviors Component's OnNotification to trigger something for now. I found that I could still use OnTap trigger but actually put my code Entity.applyTapForBehaviors under my subscribed collision's begin event. That actually works better than OnCollision So what is the design principles here? And how could I trigger a collision notification to let my Behaviors Component's OnCollision actually works?

ShaderGraphMaterial with Occlusion Surface Output fails to load on iOS and macOS
A ShaderGraphMaterial with an Occlusion Surface Output generated with RealityComposer 2 fails to load on iOS 18 and macOS 15 with the following error: RealityFoundation.ShaderGraphMaterial.LoadError.invalidTypeFound (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/realitykit/shadergraphmaterial/loaderror/invalidtypefound) This happens with both https://developer.apple.com/documentation/shadergraph/realitykit/occlusion-surface-(realitykit) and https://developer.apple.com/documentation/shadergraph/realitykit/shadow-receiving-occlusion-surface-(realitykit) RealityView { content in do { let bgEntity = ModelEntity(mesh: .generateCone(height: 0.5, radius: 0.1), materials: [SimpleMaterial(color: .red, isMetallic: true)]) bgEntity.position.z = -0.2 content.add(bgEntity) let occlusionMaterial = try await ShaderGraphMaterial(named: "/Root/OcclusionMaterial", from: "OcclusionMaterial") let testEntity = ModelEntity(mesh: .generateSphere(radius: 0.4), materials: [occlusionMaterial]) content.add(testEntity) content.cameraTarget = testEntity } catch { print("Shader Graph Load Error:") dump(error) } } .realityViewCameraControls(.orbit) .edgesIgnoringSafeArea(.all) Feedback ID: FB15081296

VisionOS 2.0 Main Camera Access Enterprise Entitlement Not Recognized in XCode
I am working on a project that requires access to the main camera on the Vision Pro. My main account holder applied for the necessary enterprise entitlement and we were approved and received the Enterprise.license file by email. I have added the Enterprise.license file to my project, and manually added the com.apple.developer.arkit.main-camera-access.allow entitlement to the entitlement file and set it to true since it was not available in the list when I tried to use the + Capability button in the Signing & Capabilites tab. I am getting an error: Provisioning profile "iOS Team Provisioning Profile: " doesn't include the com.apple.developer.arkit.main-camera-access.allow entitlement. I have checked the provisioning profile settings online, and there is no manual option for adding the main camera access entitlement, and it does not seem to be getting the approval from the license.

Issue with tracking multiple images using ARKit on VisionOS
We are using the ARKit image tracking feature on visionOS 2.0 with three pre-registered images. The image tracking works, but only one image is actively tracked at a time. When more than one target image is visible to the camera, it has difficulty detecting and tracking the other images. Is this the expected behavior in visionOS, or is there something we need to do to resolve this issue?

CompositorServices Or RealityKit
I have been concentrating on developing the visionOS application. While I am currently quite familiar with RealityKit, CompositorServices has also captured my attention. I have not yet acquired knowledge of CompositorServices. Could you please clarify whether it is essential for me to learn CompositorServices? Additionally, I would appreciate it if you could provide insights into the advantages of RealityKit and CompositorServices.

visionOS pushWindow being dismissed on app foreground
We seen to have found an issue when using the pushWindow action on visionOS. The issue occurs if the app is backgrounded then reopened by selecting the apps icon on the home screen. Any window that is opened via the pushWindow action is then dismissed. We've been able to replicate the issue in a small sample project. Replication steps Open app Open window via the push action Press the digital crown On the home screen select the apps icon again The pushed window will now be dismissed. There is a sample project linked here that shows off the issue, including a video of the bug in progress

visionOS Simulator Rotate and Scale gestures difficult to register (capture)
We were having an issue wrb the system rotate and scale gestures (two-handed gestures / RotateGesture3D and MagnifyGesture) were extremely difficult to register (make work) in the visionOS simulator. The solution we found was to: Launch your app in the simulator Move the pointer on top of the 3D object for which you are testing rotation and scaling gestures. Press and hold the Option key to display touch points (ie: the two-handed gesture points). While maintaining the option key pressed, release the pointer and re-enable it again. I am using a track pad with tap-to-click enabled and three-finger to drag enabled in accessibility, so "release the pointer and re-enable it again" translates simply to removing the three finger and placing them again on the trackpad. If you have maintained the option key pressed, then you should now be able to rotate and scale the 3D object. Context if you are interested: Our issue was also occurring in Apple's own sample project relating to gestures "Transforming RealityKit entities using gestures", at below link. On Apple's article "Interacting with your app in the visionOS simulator" at the below link, for two-handed gestures it states "Press and hold the Option key to display touch points. Move the pointer while pressing the Option key to change the distance between the touch points. Move the pointer and hold the Shift and Option keys to reposition the touch points." This simply did not work anymore for rotation and scaling gestures. These gestures used to be a lot more responsive in Sonoma. Either the article should be updated to what I described above, or there is an issue. Our colleague who is using macOS Sonoma 14.6.1 with the latest release of Xcode is not having these issues. Here is the list of configurations (troubleshooting we tried!) where it is difficult to achieve rotation and scaling gestures in the visionOS simulator: macOS Sequoia 16.1 Beta, Xcode 16.1 RC w visionOS 2.1 macOS Sequoia 16.1 Beta, Xcode 16.1 RC w visionOS 2.0 macOS Sequoia 16.1 Beta, Xcode 16.2 Beta 1 w visionOS 2.1 macOS Sequoia 16.1 Beta, Xcode 16.2 Beta 1 w visionOS 2.0 macOS Sequoia 16.1 Beta, remove all Xcodes and installed the build from AppStore (Xcode 16.1) macOS Sequoia 16.1 Beta, Xcode 16.0 w visionOS 2.0 completely wiped out, and reset entire development machine, re-installed latest releases of sequoia (15.1) and xcode (15.1)) Throughout these troubleshooting I often: restarted both xcode and sim erased all derived data erased all contents and settings from sims performed fresh git clones None of the above worked, only the workaround described above works atm. As you can maybe deduce, it was very time consuming to find the workaround, we also wasted some development effort thinking our gesture development was no-good. Hopefully this will help other devs. Article Link: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/xcode/interacting-with-your-app-in-the-visionos-simulator Gesture sample project link: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/realitykit/transforming-realitykit-entities-with-gestures

Create Anchor on Objects from 2D Data
We're developing a VisionOS application, where we would like to do product recognition (like food items). We have enterprise entitlements and therefore also main camera access for VisionOS. We send this live camera frames to a trained CoreML model where we will receive 2D coordinates from the model detection prediction. Now, we would like to create a 3D anchor on the detected items so it can be visible for user. The 3D anchor is going to be the class name of the detected item. How do we transform this 2D coordinate from the model prediction to a 3D anchor?

[visionOS] How to render side-by-side stereo video?
I want to render a 3d/stereoscopic video in an Apple Vision Pro window using RealityKit/RealityView. The video is a left-right stereo. The straight forward approach would be to spawn a quad, and give it a custom Shader Graph material, which has a CameraIndexSwitch. The CameraIndexSwitch chooses between the right texture vs the left texture. https://i.sstatic.net/XawqjNcg.png The issue I have here is that I have to extract the video frames from my AVSampleBufferVideoRenderer. This should work ok, but not if I'm playing FairPlay content. So, my question is, how to render stereo FairPlay videos in a SwiftUI RealityView?

RealityView and Persistent World Data?
I was watching the Developer videos, and there was mention that RealityView handles persistent world data differently and also automatically for us. I am having an issue finding the material I need to get up to speed on that. In ARKit, I was able to place a model with the world data and recall that .map data. It even stored a reference image for the scene to help match the world data. I'm looking for the information on how to implement and work with those same features with RealityView, as it seems to be better/automatically integrated? I need help being pointed in the right direction. Sample code would be amazing.

Request for gaze data in fully immersive Metal apps
Hi, We are trying to port our Unity app from other XR devices to Vision Pro. Thus it's way easier for us to use the Metal rendering layer, fully immersive. And to stay true to the platform, we want to keep the gaze/pinch interaction system. But we just noticed that, unlike Polyspatial XR apps, VisionOS XR in Metal does not provide gaze info unless the user is actively pinching... Which forbids any attempt to give visual feedback on what they are looking at (buttons, etc). Is this planned in Apple's roadmap ? Thanks

RotateGesture3D auto constrained to axis
Hi, On visionOS to manage entity rotation we can rely on RotateGesture3D. We can even with the constrainedToAxis parameter authorize only rotation on an x, y or z axis or even make combinations. What I want to know is if it is possible to constrain the rotation on axis automatically. Let me explain, the functionality that I would like to implement is to constrain the rotation on an axis only once the user has started his gesture. The initial gesture the user makes should let us know which axis they want to rotate on. This would be equivalent to activating a constraint automatically on one of the axes, as if we were defining the gesture on one of the axes. RotateGesture3D(constrainedToAxis: .x) RotateGesture3D(constrainedToAxis: .y) RotateGesture3D(constrainedToAxis: .z) Is it possible to do this? If so, what would be the best way to do it? A code example would be greatly appreciated. Regards Tof

Is there a way to scale a RealityKit ShapeResource?
I can generate a ShapeResource from a ReakityKit entity's extents. Could I apply some scaling to the generated shape. Is there a way to do that? // model is a ModelResource and bounds is a BoundingBox var shape = ShapeResource.generateConvex(from: model.mesh); shape = shape.offsetBy(translation: bounds.center) // How can I scale the shape to fit within the bounds? The following API only provide the rotation and translation support. and I cannot find the scale support. offsetBy(rotation: simd_quatf = simd_quatf(ix: 0, iy: 0, iz: 0, r: 1), translation: SIMD3<Float> = SIMD3<Float>()) I can put the ShapeResource on an entity and scale the entity. But, I would like to know if it is possible to scale the ShapeResource itself without attaching it to an entity.
