Ornaments in Presentations
We can add ornaments to popovers shown by PresentationComponent, but I’m not sure if we should. While working on the editor for entities in a Volume-based app, I had the idea to add ornaments to the presented views. The entire app exists inside a volume. A user can tap a item to present a popoverUI to edit it. This is displayed using the new PresentationComponent in visionOS 26. Ornaments have a new attachment anchor option this year: .parent(). .ornament(attachmentAnchor: .parent(.top), ornament: {...}) This works well in the Simulator. We can add ornaments around this popover view just like we would with a window. Unfortunately, when I run this on device I get a different experience. Any part of the ornament that overlaps with the popover content isn’t rendered correctly. Sometimes it entirely disappears, other times it becomes partially transparent. We could use content alignment to try to make sure the ornament doesn’t overlap the popover content. .ornament(attachmentAnchor: .parent(.top), contentAlignment: .bottom, ornament: {...}) This works sometimes–but not all the time. It’s not clear if this is a bug or not, because I’m not sure if we are even supposed to be able to use ornaments in this way. Here is my hierarchy: An app opens as a Volume Volume presenting a RealityView, with its own ornament using .scene() anchor Multiple Entities with Presentation Component show an edit view The view uses .parent() anchor to add ornaments. What makes me unsure is that other methods for drawing UI in RealityView don’t seem to work with ornaments. For example, if I add an attachment to show a view with the ornament–even when I use the .parent() anchor–the ornament is anchor to the volume, not the attachment view. So what do we think? Is this a rendering bug? Are ornaments intended to work with attachments and presentations?

Apple Vision Pro Developer Strap: Video Out and Recording Time Limit
Any way to extend the video recording time in Reality Composer Pro from 3:00 to any longer value, such as editing preferences in Terminal or other workaround? Is there any way to use the strap and a USB-C cable as a live video stream input source that would mirror to Quicktime or some other video capture tool? I am assuming there is no online documentation or user manual for the strap, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Thank you.

Any recommended content-aware compression strategy for .ktx textures in Reality Composer Pro?
In my Reality Composer Pro workflow for Vision Pro development, I’m using xcrun realitytool image to pre-compress textures into .ktx format, typically using ASTC block compression. These textures are used for cubemaps and environment assets. I’ve noticed that regardless of the image content—whether it’s a highly detailed photo or a completely black image—once compressed with the same ASTC block size (e.g., ASTC_8x8), the resulting .ktx file size is nearly identical. There appears to be no content-aware logic that adapts the compression ratio to the actual texture complexity. In contrast, Unreal Engine behaves differently: even when all cubemap faces are imported at the same resolution as DDS textures, the engine performs content-aware compression during packaging: Low-complexity images are compressed more aggressively The final packaged file size varies based on content complexity Since Reality Composer Pro requires textures to be pre-compressed as .ktx, there’s no opportunity for runtime optimization or per-image compression adjustment. Just wondering: is there any recommended way to implement content-aware compression for .ktx textures in Reality Composer Pro? Or any best practices to optimize .ktx sizes based on image complexity? Thanks!

Using AVAsynchronousKeyValueLoading.load() on an AVAssetTrack gives an error
I'm seeing this error while attempting to compile my VisionOS app under Xcode 26. My existing code looks like: let (naturalSize, formatDescriptions, mediaCharacteristics) = try? await videoTrack.load(.naturalSize, .formatDescriptions, .mediaCharacteristics) This is now giving a compiler error: Type of expression is ambiguous without a type annotation I don't see that anything that was changed or deprecated in the latest version. Also loading the properties individually seems to work fine i.e.: let naturalSize = try? await videoTrack.load(.naturalSize) let formatDescriptions = try? await videoTrack.load(.formatDescriptions) let mediaCharacteristics = try? await videoTrack.load(.mediaCharacteristics)

Spatial Gallery App functionality
Similar to the visionOS Spatial Gallery app, I'm developing a visionOS app that will show spatial photos and videos. Is it possible to re-create the horizontal (or a vertical) scrolling functionality that shows spatial photos and spatial video previews? Does the Spatial Gallery app use private APIs to create this functionality? I've been looking at the Quick Look documentation and have been able to use the PreviewApplication to show a single preview, but do not see anything for a collection of files as the Spatial Gallery app presents in the scrolling view. Any insights or direction on how this may be done is greatly appreciated.

Can we access a "Locked in Place" value when a window has been locked without being snapped to a surface?
Starting in visionOS 26, users can snap windows to surfaces. These windows are locked in place and are later restored by visionOS. We can access the snapped data with surfaceSnappingInfo docs. Users can also lock a free-floating (unsnapped) window from a context menu in the window controls. Is there a way to tell when a window has been locked without being snapped to a surface?

Need to rotate child of a 3D mesh
I am creating a vision pro app with a 3D model, it has a mesh hierarchy of head, hands, feet etc. I want the character to look towards the camera, but am not able to access head of character through sceneKit nor reality kit. when I try to print names of the child meshes, it only prints till the character, it does iterate through all the body parts. Can anyone help?

The folding and unfolding effect of the NBA sand table
Seeing this magical sand table, the unfolding and folding effects are similar to spreading out cards, which is very interesting. But I don't know how to achieve it. I want to see if there are any ways to achieve this effect and give some ideas. May I ask if this effect can be achieved under the existing API

Volumetric window not sharing in SharePlay session for VisionOS
I've been struggling with this for far too long so I've decided to finally come here and see if anyone can point me to the documentation that I'm missing. I'm sure it's something so simple but I just can't figure it out. I can SharePlay our test app with my brother (device to device) but when I open a volumetric window, it says "not shared" under it. I assume this will likely fix the video sharing problem we have as well. Everything else works so smooth but SharePlay has just been such a struggle for me. It's the last piece to the puzzle before we can put it on the App Store.

How to combine Occlusion nodes with soft edges.
At a recent community meeting we were wondering how Apple creates this soft-edge effect around the occlusion cutouts. We see this effect on keyboard cutouts, iPhone cutouts, and in progressive spaces. An example: Notice the soft edged around the occlusion cutout for the keyboard One of our members created some Shader Graph materials to explore soft edges. These work by sending data into the opacity channel of the PreviewSurface node. Unfortunately, the Occlusion Surface nodes lack any sort of input. If you know how to blend these concepts with RealityKit Occlusion, please let us know!

.glassEffect() view modifier in visionOS 26 beta 1 generates an error
.glassEffect(.regular, in: .rect(cornerRadius: 24)) error; 'glassEffect(_:in:isEnabled:)' is unavailable in visionOS This is not surprising since visionOS already has a native glass interface that formed a model for the other OS's, but this error will create additional overhead for developers creating multi-platform apps that include visionOS.

Hand Tracking Latency When UITextView Becomes Active in Vision Pro Immersive Space
I'm placing sphere at finger tip and updating its position as hand move. Finger joint tracking functions correctly, but I’ve observed noticeable latency in hand tracking updates whenever a UITextView becomes active. This lag happens intermittently during app usage, lasting about 5–10 seconds, after which the latency disappears and the sphere starts following the finger joints immediately. When I open the immersive space for the first time, the profiler shows a large performance spike upto 328%. After that, it stabilizes and runs smoothly. Note: I don’t observe any lag when CPU usage spikes to 300% (upon immersive view load) yet the lag still occurs even when CPU usage remains below 100%. I’m using the following code for hand tracking: private func processHandTrackingUpdates() async { for await update in handTracking.anchorUpdates { let handAnchor = update.anchor if handAnchor.isTracked { switch handAnchor.chirality { case .left: leftHandAnchor = handAnchor updateHandJoints(for: handAnchor, with: leftHandJointEntities) case .right: rightHandAnchor = handAnchor updateHandJoints(for: handAnchor, with: rightHandJointEntities) } } else { switch handAnchor.chirality { case .left: leftHandAnchor = nil hideAllJoints(in: leftHandJointEntities) case .right: rightHandAnchor = nil hideAllJoints(in: rightHandJointEntities) } } await MainActor.run { handTrackingData.processNewHandAnchors( leftHand: self.leftHandAnchor, rightHand: self.rightHandAnchor ) } } } And here’s the function I’m using to update the joint positions: private func updateHandJoints( for handAnchor: HandAnchor, with jointEntities: [HandSkeleton.JointName: Entity] ) { guard handAnchor.isTracked else { hideAllJoints(in: jointEntities) return } // Check if the little finger tip and intermediate base are both tracked. if let tipJoint = handAnchor.handSkeleton?.joint(.littleFingerTip), let intermediateBaseJoint = handAnchor.handSkeleton?.joint(.littleFingerIntermediateTip), tipJoint.isTracked, intermediateBaseJoint.isTracked, let pinkySphere = jointEntities[.littleFingerTip] { // Convert joint transforms to world space. let tipTransform = handAnchor.originFromAnchorTransform * tipJoint.anchorFromJointTransform let intermediateBaseTransform = handAnchor.originFromAnchorTransform * intermediateBaseJoint.anchorFromJointTransform // Extract positions from the transforms. let tipPosition = SIMD3<Float>(tipTransform.columns.3.x, tipTransform.columns.3.y, tipTransform.columns.3.z) let intermediateBasePosition = SIMD3<Float>(intermediateBaseTransform.columns.3.x, intermediateBaseTransform.columns.3.y, intermediateBaseTransform.columns.3.z) // Calculate the midpoint. let midpointPosition = (tipPosition + intermediateBasePosition) / 2.0 // Position the sphere at the midpoint and make it visible. pinkySphere.isEnabled = true pinkySphere.transform.translation = midpointPosition } else { // If either joint is not tracked, hide the sphere. jointEntities[.littleFingerTip]?.isEnabled = false } // Update the positions of all other hand joint spheres. for (jointName, entity) in jointEntities { if jointName == .littleFingerTip { // Already handled the pinky above. continue } guard let joint = handAnchor.handSkeleton?.joint(jointName), joint.isTracked else { entity.isEnabled = false continue } entity.isEnabled = true let jointTransform = handAnchor.originFromAnchorTransform * joint.anchorFromJointTransform entity.transform.translation = SIMD3<Float>(jointTransform.columns.3.x, jointTransform.columns.3.y, jointTransform.columns.3.z) } } I’ve attached both a profiler trace and a video recording from Vision Pro that clearly demonstrate the issue. Profiler: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fDWyGj_fgxud2ngkGH_IVmuH_kO-z0XZ Vision Pro Recordings: https://drive.google.com/file/d/17qo3U9ivwYBsbaSm26fjaOokkJApbkz- https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LxTxgudMvWDhOqKVuhc3QaHfY_1x8iA0 Has anyone else experienced this behavior? Request: More Fine-Grained Control in Object Capture (PhotogrammetrySession)
Hi Apple Team and Developers, First of all, I’d like to express my appreciation for the incredible results achieved using PhotogrammetrySession. I’ve been developing a portrait scanning app using Object Capture, and in many tests—especially with human models—I’ve found the reconstructed body surfaces are remarkably smooth and clean, often outperforming tools like Metashape and RealityCapture in terms of aesthetic results. However, I’ve encountered some challenges when working with complex areas like long hair overlapping the face. For instance, with female models where strands of hair partially occlude the face, the resulting mesh tends to merge the hair and facial geometry. This leads to distorted or “melted” facial features, likely due to ambiguity in the geometry estimation phase. Feature Suggestion: Would it be possible to allow developers to supply two versions of the input images: • One version (original) for texture generation • A pre-processed version (e.g., contrast-enhanced or CLAHE filtered) to guide mesh reconstruction only This would give us the flexibility to enhance edge features or shadow detail without affecting the final texture appearance. In other photogrammetry pipelines, applying image enhancement selectively before dense reconstruction improves geometry quality in low-contrast areas. Question: Is there any plan to support this kind of two-path workflow in future versions of PhotogrammetrySession? Or perhaps expose more intermediate stages or tunable parameters to developers? Also, any hints on what we can expect from WWDC 2025 regarding improvements to Object Capture or related vision/3D technologies? Thanks again for this powerful API. Looking forward to hearing insights from the team and other developers. Warm regards, KitCheng
