I agree UITabBarController has some amazing capabilities but I have my own set of custom requirements for my app like the tab bar moves down when scrolling up and reappears on scroll down, etc. and in this case extending UITabBar would be more suitable.
Unfortunately we cannot transform and put constraints on tabBar provided by UITabBarController because these things managed by UITabBarController and we have no control over it.
