@Breity yeah that didn't fix the problem. It seems manually disabling SIP is the only solution. Which, of course, has obvious security and safety implications. If you need the space though, you're really left with no choice. I note that this issue was first reported back in Jan so fixing It doesn't seem to be a priority for Apple.
