lemme guess, you didn't connect the view controller to your storyboard reference, then set root view controller and the is initial view controller... recommendation, learn to build a basic app from iOS academy, then work on your own apps

iosAcademy is very helpful as well... He teaches you how to write apps in swift storyboard, ui, and even how to code the entire app in a single view controller without opening a single other file. I find his videos very useful and topic oriented.
