Thanks for the pointer to the known issue.
Following your advice, we tested a few more things on our side:
1. The architecture is not the cause
We rebuilt the plug-in as a Universal Binary (x86_64 + arm64) and the "Application type" pane is still not shown. This matches what you said: the other affected developers already ship plug-ins with both Intel and Apple silicon code. We will still keep the Universal build, because we are planning for the end of Rosetta 2.
2. The behaviour got worse on macOS 27.0.1
Before 27.0.1, copying the PKG from the mounted disk image to a local folder (for example, the Desktop) and running it from there worked around the problem. In that case the plug-in bundle was expanded as regular files and the pane appeared.
On macOS 27.0.1, the pane is missing even when the PKG is launched from a local copy. So that workaround no longer works.
3. Older macOS releases are affected too
The same problem also happens on macOS 26.7 and macOS 15.8, which shipped as security/minor updates.
Question
Because this now affects 27.0.1 with no workaround, we are considering moving away from Installer Plugins. We only use the plug-in to let the user choose between two app variants. Is there an approach you would recommend, for example choices in a distribution package? Or do you expect Installer Plugins to stay supported once this bug is fixed?
Thanks again for your help.
