Hello Kevin, I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts on my latest findings. Thanks. Alexander Kapshuk.

Thanks for your feedback and for all your help with this particular problem as well as all with the other queries I've made on this forum. Much appreciated.

Hello Kevin, I'll take you up on your kind offer to take a look at the full kernel panic log. Please find below the bug report ID for the bug I've submitted. FB17497530, Watchdogd panic when extracting 60Gb zip file. Thanks heaps once again.

Thanks. I did observe that behaviour with TextEdit.app. I also noted that in that case file data consistency was being guarded by advisory locking.

Thanks for a very detailed response. The error message displayed in Finder is 'The operation cannot be completed because the item is in use.' I didn't find anything pertaining to this particular operation logged to the console. In the early stages of the project, before support for extended attributes was added in, I went with AppleDouble files. Thanks for pointing this out, I'll try skipping them altogether and rely on the use of extended attributes in stead.

Thanks for clarifying things.

Thanks, I'll go away and process all that. Looks like you've accidentally put in the wrong URL for the post about symbolicating kernel panics on Apple Silicon. Is this the post you had in mind?

Thanks. I'll check it out.

Thanks. I'll check it out.

Having SIP disabled and security mode reduced to permissive makes no difference in being able to trace 3rd party kexts.
