Did anyone find a solution to this? Or get an answer from Apple? I too am running in to the same issue as the OP where Library/Caches/com.apple.containermanagerd/Dead seems to never be cleared even when my HD space is down to <5GB and the system is producing errors that it can not install downloaded files because of lack of disk space. This must be a bug.
