Agreed, I would like to get a warning of using deprecated functions in my (open source scientific code), but there is no need to warn for unsafe functions. My code needs to be fast and there are no requirements for being safe. At the moment I need to turn of the deprecated warnings as we get swamped by sprintf warnings.
