Is this an answer specifically pertaining to the Swift Student Challenge? My understanding is that if I wanted to, I could request that the app run in Swift Playground, which would guarantee it run on an iPad. I'm simply asking if the opposite is possible for an Xcode app playground (for this challenge specifically). Does your answer also apply to orientation? There are many apps that only support one orientation in the App Store, so is only supporting one (for, say, a game) really an issue?
