It’s now 2026 and I’m still having the same issue, binary data synced with CloudKit is roughly ~10x on iCloud when checking inside iOS iCloud storage viewer…
Come on Apple get it together!
I fixed it by flushing the DNS, try this:
Open the Terminal app
Enter sudo dscacheutil -flushcache, enter your password if prompted
Enter sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
Reconnect your WiFi / Ethernet
Or you can simply flush the DNS with CleanMyMac, either method works just the same.
