I'm having the exact same issue. Any imported files with SwiftUI's fileImporter are not included in the result of the NSMetadataQuery. (Yes, NSMetadataQueryAccessibleUbiquitousExternalDocumentsScope is included in the search scope.) Have you resolved the issue eventually?
