Just came across this and surprisingly, I'm currently on Sonoma 14.6.1 and after 10 months, this issue is still not fixed. Thanks for the workaround and it works amazingly as expected.

I'm wondering how can you do this - "On the Simulator in Xcode, I can run an iPad with Stage Manager (good) and pretend to connect an external display (good)". Also wonder how I can detect if app is running in "Move to Display" mode? Thanks in advance.

Bump - like to know this too. Given Apple Silicon will be able to run iOS apps, my app will have different behavior based on Portrait or Landscape mode.
