Huge increase in CKErrorServerRejectedRequest / CKHTTPStatus=503 errors
Hi, My app has been receiving a huge increase in the number of CKHTTPStatus=503 errors over the past couple of months. I created a thread before, and also a Feedback (FB13300807) over a month ago, but I haven't gotten any assistance on this, and am wondering if there is any better way to get the attention of a CloudKit engineer who might be able to help. From my users, I was able to print out the error code and error userInfo in the console: error.code == 15 (the same as CKErrorServerRejectedRequest), UserInfo={ContainerID=, CKHTTPStatus=503, RequestUUID=17C6B9B9-35DD-411B-8AED-7A497075D228, OperationID=5285362CCD2DDB32}}, CKHTTPStatus=503} How can I get this issue addressed? A lot of users are reporting this issue and it's creating a big support burden.

Delay in CKRecord uploads
Hi, I have recently noticed that it's taking my app a long time between the CKModifyOperations being 'completed' in the app, and for the record to actual show up through either looking at the CloudKit dashboard, or by using CKQueryOperations. The whole upload can take 10-15 minutes or more, from the time the CKOperation has completed to the time I can see all the records on the dashboard. The 'upload' seems to be happening in chunks ... for e.g. if I uploaded a 100 records, if I check after 2 minutes the query will show 20 records, and then 35-40 a bit later, and after 10+ minutes will show all 100 records (exact numbers vary of course). This was never an issue before, but has recently been reported by a couple of users of my app, and I need to know what's going on before it balloons into a big thing. And it's highly problematic, because it leads to users not being able to download the records that they uploaded on the first device. Is there something in CloudKit servers that have changed recently? Can someone in the CloudKit team take a look? I filed a Feedback, along with CloudKit profile logs: FB13537245 I can also reproduce the issue in production as well as development environments.

UIBarButtonItem: show 'menu' programmatically
Hi, I have a UIBarButtonItem that I create with a UIMenu, and it's added to the navigation bar: self.rightButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemAdd menu: [self createMenuForAddItem]]; self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItems = @[self.rightButton]; The menu shows fine when a user clicks on the bar button. Now I want to also show this menu programmatically, for e.g if the user opens the app for the 5th time, the menu from the bar button item shows automatically, without the user having to explicitly press the button. How do I achieve this?

Migrating custom intents to App Intents
Hi, I am trying to migrate my custom intents to App Intents, and was running into some issues. My current intentdefinitions file and all intent handling code are in a framework that is shared with my app target. I went through the migration assistant and added the App Intents codes directly to my main app target. When I run a shortcut with the App Intent, it doesn't work ... I get some messages in the console that say: Could not find an intent with identifier MyCustomAddContactIntent, mangledTypeName: Optional("") I guess the old custom intents and new App Intents should both live in the same package to see each other. In this case, I'm not sure if all the existing custom intents file and all the intents handler logic should be moved into the main app bundle (and removed from framework), or should I add the new App Intents handlers into the framework (in addition to the main app)? Also, will the custom framework even be needed or run in iOS16+? Thanks.

Crash running app in iOS18
Hi, I updated my iPad to iOS18 beta 1, and it seems to crash my app immediately, even though it's the App Store release version that's running fine on iOS17. SwiftUI crash only in iOS16.0 and iOS16.1
Hi, I just released a major update to my app that includes a lot of SwiftUI, with a minimum deployment target of iOS15. I've been tracking this one crash that only seems to happen for devices running iOS16 or iOS16.1. I can't track down what is causing this, but this is the crash report I get ... any tips would be helpful. SwiftUI: listSectionSeparator not working on macOS
Hi, When I use 'listSectionSeparator' on hide the section separator on a List 'section', it works as expected on iOS, but doesn't have any effect on macOS. Is that a known issue? Are there any workarounds for this? Here's a basic reproducible example: import SwiftUI struct TestItem: Identifiable, Hashable { let id = UUID() let itemValue: Int var itemString: String { get { return "test \(itemValue)" } } } struct TestListSelection: View { let testArray = [TestItem(itemValue: 1), TestItem(itemValue: 2), TestItem(itemValue: 3), TestItem(itemValue: 4)] @State private var selectedItem: TestItem? = nil var body: some View { List (selection: $selectedItem) { Section("Header") { ForEach (testArray, id: \.self) { item in Button { print("main row tapped for \(item.itemValue)") } label: { HStack { Text(item.itemString) Spacer() Button("Tap me") { print("button tapped") } .buttonStyle(.borderless) } } .buttonStyle(.plain) } } .listSectionSeparator(.hidden) // has no effect on macOS Section("2nd Header") { ForEach (testArray, id: \.self) { item in Text(item.itemString) } } .listSectionSeparator(.hidden) // has no effect on macOS } .listStyle(.plain) } } #Preview { TestListSelection() }

iPadOS in iOS18 with new UITabBarController ... UIBarButtonItems disappear
I have an iPad app using the new UITabBarController on iPadOS18, which is suffering from a new issue from the new layout. Within my tabs, I have a UISplitViewController, with a 2 column layout. If I load the app, it works ok, but if I put the app in the background, and then bring it to foreground, the navigation bar buttons and title just disappear from the splitView controller’s primary view controller. Before going to background: After coming back from background: I also get the following layout issues posted in the debugger consoler: Unable to simultaneously satisfy constraints. Probably at least one of the constraints in the following list is one you don't want. Try this: (1) look at each constraint and try to figure out which you don't expect; (2) find the code that added the unwanted constraint or constraints and fix it. ( "<NSLayoutConstraint:0x600002106ee0 UILayoutGuide:0x600003b088c0'TitleView(layout=0x103d18d40)'.trailing <= UILayoutGuide:0x600003b08c40'UIViewLayoutMarginsGuide'.trailing (active)>", "<NSLayoutConstraint:0x600002137520 H:|-(590)-[UILayoutGuide:0x600003b00a80'TabBarGuide(0x103d18810)'](LTR) (active, names: '|':_UINavigationBarContentView:0x103d18810 )>", "<NSLayoutConstraint:0x600002137610 UILayoutGuide:0x600003b00a80'TabBarGuide(0x103d18810)'.width == 0 (active)>", "<NSLayoutConstraint:0x6000021414a0 UILayoutGuide:0x600003b088c0'TitleView(layout=0x103d18d40)'.trailing >= UILayoutGuide:0x600003b00a80'TabBarGuide(0x103d18810)'.trailing (active)>", "<NSLayoutConstraint:0x600002148e10 'UIView-Encapsulated-Layout-Width' _UINavigationBarContentView:0x103d18810.width == 585 (active)>", "<NSLayoutConstraint:0x600002107570 'UIView-rightMargin-guide-constraint' H:[UILayoutGuide:0x600003b08c40'UIViewLayoutMarginsGuide']-(20)-|(LTR) (active, names: '|':_UINavigationBarContentView:0x103d18810 )>" ) Will attempt to recover by breaking constraint <NSLayoutConstraint:0x600002106ee0 UILayoutGuide:0x600003b088c0'TitleView(layout=0x103d18d40)'.trailing <= UILayoutGuide:0x600003b08c40'UIViewLayoutMarginsGuide'.trailing (active)> Make a symbolic breakpoint at UIViewAlertForUnsatisfiableConstraints to catch this in the debugger. The methods in the UIConstraintBasedLayoutDebugging category on UIView listed in <UIKitCore/UIView.h> may also be helpful. I filed a bug report: FB14971801 Is there something I can do avoid this? It'll make my app pretty unusable if the bar button items just disappear every time the user puts the app in the background and then foregrounds the app.

New crashes with NSOutlineView in MacOS Sequoia
Hi, I have noticed a major uptick in crash reports, ever since I updated my app for macOS Sequoia. All of them have to do with NSOutlineView, and they all have a similar internal API in the crash log, which shows that the issue is something to do with the framework. They all have references to NSConcreteMapTable and _TtCs12_SwiftObject isEqual. The issue isn't reproducible, but it's reported by many different users, all on macOS15+, and it was never an issue with macOS14 or below, so I'm not sure what to do about it. Here's a couple of examples of the new crash reports: Date/Time: 2024-10-29T06:55:19.999Z Launch Time: 2024-10-29T06:50:08Z OS Version: Mac OS X 15.0.1 (24A348) Report Version: 104 Exception Type: SIGTRAP Exception Codes: TRAP_BRKPT at 0x1a98c9c90 Crashed Thread: 0 Thread 0 Crashed: 0 libswiftCore.dylib 0x00000001a98c9c90 -[_TtCs12_SwiftObject isEqual:] + 240 1 Foundation 0x0000000199ad4e0c probeGC + 408 2 Foundation 0x0000000199b01e6c -[NSConcreteMapTable removeObjectForKey:] + 76 3 AppKit 0x000000019c5966a8 _NSOVFreeRowEntry + 44 4 AppKit 0x000000019c5965c4 _NSOVRecursiveFreeChildrenAndItem + 100 5 AppKit 0x000000019c59649c _NSOVFastRemoveChildRowEntries + 260 6 AppKit 0x000000019c595d40 -[NSOutlineView reloadItem:reloadChildren:] + 1016 7 MyApp 0x0000000104b454fc CJ_CRM.MacCJSidebarViewController.compareContactsDictionariesForPublicGroups() -> () (MacCJSidebarViewController.swift:1611) 8 MyApp 0x0000000104b44518 $s20MyApp26MacCJSidebarViewControllerC27contactsChangedNotificationyySo14NSNotificationCFySo7NSTimerCYbcfU_ (MacCJSidebarViewController.swift:461) 9 MyApp 0x0000000104ba5310 $sSo7NSTimerCIeghg_ABIeyBhy_TR (<compiler-generated>:0) 10 Foundation 0x0000000199b64cfc __NSFireTimer + 100 11 CoreFoundation 0x0000000198988184 __CFRUNLOOP_IS_CALLING_OUT_TO_A_TIMER_CALLBACK_FUNCTION__ + 28 12 CoreFoundation 0x0000000198987e28 __CFRunLoopDoTimer + 1008 13 CoreFoundation 0x0000000198987938 __CFRunLoopDoTimers + 352 14 CoreFoundation 0x000000019896d0f0 __CFRunLoopRun + 1852 15 CoreFoundation 0x000000019896c334 CFRunLoopRunSpecific + 568 16 HIToolbox 0x00000001a3da50cc RunCurrentEventLoopInMode + 288 17 HIToolbox 0x00000001a3daaebc ReceiveNextEventCommon + 632 18 HIToolbox 0x00000001a3dab020 _BlockUntilNextEventMatchingListInModeWithFilter + 72 19 AppKit 0x000000019c4b0a70 _DPSNextEvent + 656 20 AppKit 0x000000019cdd67b8 -[NSApplication(NSEventRouting) _nextEventMatchingEventMask:untilDate:inMode:dequeue:] + 684 21 AppKit 0x000000019c4a3b7c -[NSApplication run] + 476 22 AppKit 0x000000019c47a44c NSApplicationMain + 884 23 MyApp 0x0000000104a1e26c main (main.m:24) 24 ??? 0x0000000198504274 0x0 + 0 Another one with a different trigger but same internal API: Date/Time: 2024-10-29T16:49:12.999Z Launch Time: 2024-10-29T15:51:27Z OS Version: Mac OS X 15.1 (24B83) Report Version: 104 Exception Type: SIGSEGV Exception Codes: SEGV_MAPERR at 0x4cde11282080 Crashed Thread: 0 Thread 0 Crashed: 0 libswiftCore.dylib 0x00000001a04efa1c isSubclass(swift::TargetMetadata<swift::InProcess> const*, swift::TargetMetadata<swift::InProcess> const*) + 28 1 libswiftCore.dylib 0x00000001a04ef9f8 _swift_class_isSubclass + 12 2 libswiftCore.dylib 0x00000001a04ffa9c -[_TtCs12_SwiftObject isEqual:] + 252 3 Foundation 0x00000001906b4cec probeGC + 408 4 Foundation 0x00000001906b4adc -[NSConcreteMapTable objectForKey:] + 64 5 AppKit 0x00000001930f8eec -[NSOutlineView _rowEntryForItem:requiredRowEntryLoadMask:] + 48 6 AppKit 0x00000001930f8e80 -[NSOutlineView parentForItem:] + 24 7 MyApp 0x0000000100e2faec MyApp.MacCJSidebarViewController.outlineView(_: __C.NSOutlineView, selectionIndexesForProposedSelection: Foundation.IndexSet) -> Foundation.IndexSet (MacCJSidebarViewController.swift:759) 8 MyApp 0x0000000100e30dbc @objc MyApp.MacCJSidebarViewController.outlineView(_: __C.NSOutlineView, selectionIndexesForProposedSelection: Foundation.IndexSet) -> Foundation.IndexSet (<compiler-generated>:0) 9 AppKit 0x000000019324c4e4 -[NSTableView _userSelectableRowIndexesForProposedSelection:userCanAlreadyChangeSelection:] + 288 10 AppKit 0x00000001933176c4 -[NSTableView _userSelectRowIndexes:withNewSelectedRow:] + 140 11 AppKit 0x00000001933175a0 -[NSTableView _userSelectSingleRow:] + 76 12 AppKit 0x0000000193315c8c -[NSTableView mouseDown:] + 2536 13 AppKit 0x0000000193315120 -[NSOutlineView mouseDown:] + 72 14 MyApp 0x0000000100dabb38 -[CustomNSOutlineView mouseDown:] (CustomNSOutlineView.m:180) 15 AppKit 0x000000019320d98c forwardMethod + 248 16 AppKit 0x000000019320d98c forwardMethod + 248 17 AppKit 0x0000000193213518 -[NSWindow(NSEventRouting) _handleMouseDownEvent:isDelayedEvent:] + 3668 18 AppKit 0x000000019319f00c -[NSWindow(NSEventRouting) _reallySendEvent:isDelayedEvent:] + 380 19 AppKit 0x000000019319ecbc -[NSWindow(NSEventRouting) sendEvent:] + 280 20 AppKit 0x00000001939b6bf0 -[NSApplication(NSEventRouting) sendEvent:] + 1652 21 AppKit 0x00000001935c489c -[NSApplication _handleEvent:] + 56 22 AppKit 0x000000019306ab08 -[NSApplication run] + 516 23 AppKit 0x0000000193041364 NSApplicationMain + 884 24 MyApp 0x0000000100d0626c main (main.m:24) 25 ??? 0x000000018f0e4274 0x0 + 0 I just created a Feedback FB15625970. SwiftUI Transformable: support drag to Finder on macOS
I am trying to support dragging out a 'file' object from my app into Finder, on macOS. I have my object conform to Transferable and the files are saved on disk locally, so I just want to pass it the URL. This works fine when dragging out to other apps, like Notes or Mail, but not in Finder. I setup a ProxyRepresentation as well, as suggested by another thread, but it doesn't seem to help. Is there any other setup I need to do in the Xcode project file for it to work, or is there something else that I'm missing? @available(iOSApplicationExtension 17.0, macOSApplicationExtension 14.0, *) extension FileAttachments: Transferable { public static var transferRepresentation: some TransferRepresentation { FileRepresentation(exportedContentType: UTType.content) { content in SentTransferredFile(content.fullFileURL(), allowAccessingOriginalFile: false) } .exportingCondition { file in if let fileUTI = UTType(filenameExtension: file.fullFileURL().pathExtension), let fileURL = file.fullFileURL() { print("FileAttachments: FileRepresentation exportingCondition fileUTI: \(fileUTI) for file: \(fileURL)") return fileUTI.conforms(to: UTType.content) } return false } .suggestedFileName{$0.fileRenamedName} ProxyRepresentation { file in if let fileURL = file.fullFileURL() { print("FileAttachments: ProxyRepresentation returning file") return fileURL } return file.fullFileURL()! } } }

SwiftUI List - onInsert not called on iOS (works on macOS)
I am working with a simple SwiftUI List and I want to enable functionality that allows files and images to be dropped onto the List from outside the app. There is an onInsert modifier with List that allows for this, but I found that it works on macOS, but not when running the same view on iOS. I have sample code that I can't seem to post on this forum because it keeps giving me a validation error about "This post contains sensitive language". Maybe this will work: Code to reproduce issue Is there anything I can do to make this work on iOS?

iPadOS26: UITabBar doesn't switch selected state
With iPadOS26, if I create a UITabBar, and use that to switch between views, the selected state never updates. I created this simple UIViewController to demonstrate the issue: class SimpleTabBarController: UIViewController, UITabBarDelegate { let tabBar = UITabBar() let redItem = UITabBarItem(title: "Red", image: nil, tag: 0) let blueItem = UITabBarItem(title: "Blue", image: nil, tag: 1) override func viewDidLoad() { super.viewDidLoad() view.backgroundColor = .white tabBar.items = [redItem, blueItem] tabBar.selectedItem = redItem tabBar.delegate = self tabBar.translatesAutoresizingMaskIntoConstraints = false view.addSubview(tabBar) NSLayoutConstraint.activate([ tabBar.leadingAnchor.constraint(equalTo: view.leadingAnchor), tabBar.trailingAnchor.constraint(equalTo: view.trailingAnchor), tabBar.bottomAnchor.constraint(equalTo: view.safeAreaLayoutGuide.bottomAnchor) ]) updateBackground(for: redItem) } func tabBar(_ tabBar: UITabBar, didSelect item: UITabBarItem) { updateBackground(for: item) } private func updateBackground(for item: UITabBarItem) { switch item.tag { case 0: view.backgroundColor = .systemRed case 1: view.backgroundColor = .systemBlue default: view.backgroundColor = .white } } } The tabBar didSelect item method is called, and the background color gets updated as expected, but the selected state of the UITabBar stays the same. I files a feedback for a related issue: FB17841678

FoundationModels and Core Data
Hi, I have an app that uses Core Data to store user information and display it in various views. I want to know if it's possible to easily integrate this setup with FoundationModels to make it easier for the user to query and manipulate the information, and if so, how would I go about it? Can the model be pointed to the database schema file and the SQLite file sitting in the user's app group container to parse out the information needed? And/or should the NSManagedObjects be made @Generable for better output? Any guidance about this would be useful.

CloudKit: shared records creatorUserRecordID and lastModifiedUserRecordID
Hi, I am testing a situation with shared CKRecords where the data in the CKRecord syncs fine, but the creatorUserRecordID.recordName and lastModifiedUserRecordID.recordName shows "defaultOwner" (which maps to the CKCurrentUserDefaultName constant) even though I made sure I edit the CKRecord value from a different iCloud account. In fact, on the CloudKit dashboard, it shows the correct user recordIDs in the metadata for the 'Created' and 'Modified' fields, but not in the CKRecord. I am mostly testing this on the iPhone simulator with the debugger attached. Is that a possible reason for this, or is there some other reason the lastModifiedUserRecordID is showing the value for 'CKCurrentUserDefaultName'? It would be pretty difficult to build in functionality to look up changes by a different userID if this is the case.

Core Data stack in #Playground
I'm using the #Playground macro in Xcode 26.0, running on macOS 26.0. I can get the basics working, but I don't understand how it hooks into the rest of the app, like the App Delete or the Core Data stack. Do we have to create a new Core Data stack, like for SwiftUI Previews, or can it hook into the stack from the main app (if so, how)?
