After uploading new build, can users update app to get new build

Hi, so I uploaded a new build and it just got approved to be "Ready for Sale," but when I visited the App Store to see if you could update the app if you already had it to, there doesn't seem to be an update button.

If people want to have the new features, do they just delete the app and redownload it or will they be able to update the app?

Do I just have to wait a while to see the update button?

Thanks.

How do I send out an update to all the app users after uploading a new build for an app?

Go into App Store Connect for your app and see if you've accidentally set a date for the update to be released.

It's possible that the update is rolling out across Apple's servers, and it will just take a bit of time to be available everywhere.

No, your users don't need to delete the app to get an update.

If you want to inform your users of an update - and you don't have their contact details (through some sort of signup inside the app) - then you could always use a simple version check:

  • On a server somewhere, save a small text file that contains the current version number, i.e. 1.0.0.
  • In your app, grab that text file and read the contents.
  • If the version in the text file is newer than the version reading the text file, alert your users that there's an update available.
