D-U-N-S Lookup hardstop

I have an LLC. I have an EIN. I do not have a D-U-N-S. I need a D-U-N-S.

When I try to apply for a D-U-N-S so that I may enroll in the Apple Development program, I am forced into a look-up path for D-U-N-S despite not having one. I already know I don't have one.

As you can see in the 2nd attached screenshot after I enter my information I am given two cards of potential businesses with a D-U-N-S. That's all well and good, but neither are mine as I don't have one, so clearly I am not going to select those. Again, that's why I am in this process flow in the first place, so clearly this is a multi-path flow to first confirm if one exists, and then if it doesn't exist, we are going to submit a form to get one. Now I understand that to prevent duplicates you want a lookup first. However, after the lookup yields results that aren't accurate, what is my path from this point? From the steps provided, step 2 says if my company isn't listed then I will submit the information to request a free D-U-N-S Number, which implies that would be the step which followed the page I am stuck on. So where do I go from here?

I think it's just ambiguous wording on Apple's part.

When they say "have the option to submit your information to D&B" that just means this is something you can do. You are interpreting this as Apple saying they are going to give you an optional button to submit your information to D&B.

You have to leave the Apple website and get your DUNS number on your own. Then, in theory, once Apple syncs with D&B's information, your LLC will show up on the lookup list.

Testing the page flow when I use test data which I know will not result in any companies being returned by the lookup service you can observe in my screenshot that there is a different outcome with the ability to submit for the D-U-N-S as I am desiring to do. Unfortunately the fields are all immutable and I would have to submit the test data instead of my companies information.

Since going through Apple for a D-U-N-S comes with advantages when compared to going directly through Dun & Bradstreet this is why I am trying to get resolution.

It's definitely a broken flow. Could be a bug, could be a missed requirement, but either way it's not the correct experience for my use-case.

Such as?

You can go through Dun & Bradstreet to get your Dun & Bradstreet number in a couple of weeks.

Maybe revisit this thread in a couple of months and let us know if you made the right decision.

Sounds like a clear win for Apple. Go for it!
