Clarification needed regarding requirements for geofencing
In my app, I am using geofencing to perform an action when the user enter or leaves a specified location. The geofencing (CLMonitor) is active permanently, and should work across multiple app sessions or after the device is restarted. It should also work after the app was minimized or terminated. This worked perfectly with iOS 17 and prior, but with iOS 18, things changed. As soon as iOS 18 dropped, users were informing me that the app does no longer perform the entry/exit action reliably (without me making any changes to the app). Most of the times, events are missed entirely. Sometimes, after the user opens or resumes the app, duplicate events are delivered and/or events with the current time instead of the correct time of entry/exit. I am making sure that the app has the "Always" location permission before geofencing is enabled The gefocence radius is between 20 and 500m, but even with the max. radius specified, the geofencing is unreliable For the same user and geofence, the entry/exit event is delivered occasionally, but not always I am currently not using CLLocationManager.allowsBackgroundLocationUpdates (even though it's documented as "Apps that receive location updates when running in the background must include the UIBackgroundModes key (with the location value) in their app’s Info.plist file") because it wasn't necessary on iOS 17 and in my tests, using it didn't yield any improvements In my search for what could have caused this change, I found this WWDC video about location authorization: . It appears that with iOS 18, it is now required to have an active CLServiceSession to ensure that location updates are delivered to my app. Even though the video is long (and I've watched it multiple times), some things are still unclear. For example, the docs state: If your app actively receives and processes location updates and terminates, it should restart those APIs upon launch in order to continue receiving updates. Also, in the video it is stated that: ... So your job, ..., is to make sure that your process launch logic knows what features it has been tasked with pursuing, and re-takes session objects... But on the other hand it's also said that: you can only start holding one (a CLServiceSession) when your app is in the foreground and also ... CLMonitor.events won’t yield results when it is not in use, unless a session which was started in the foreground, .... To summarize my questions, for the geofencing to work as described above: when exactly do I need to create a CLServiceSession if the app is launched into the backgorund? Immediately in the applicationDidFinishLaunching method, even though the app is still in the background (applicationState is background)? Or later on, when the app is opened again by the user, e.g. in applicationDidBecomeActive (and applicationState is active)? do I need to specify the background mode capability as noted in the Handling location updates in the background article? do I need to create a CLBackgroundActivitySession as noted in the Handling location updates in the background article? does it matter, which of the four initializer methods I am using to create the CLServiceSession (with CLServiceSessionAuthorizationRequirementAlways)? does it matter if I specify NSLocationRequireExplicitServiceSession in the Info.plist or not when I already do ensure that the app has the "Always" location permission when the feature is being enabled Does a CLServiceSession last indefinitely and should it only be invalidated once the user disables the feature?

MapKit JS 401 Not Authorized (details empty) even with multiple token variants
Hi everyone, I’m troubleshooting a persistent MapKit JS auth issue and would appreciate any advice. I have: Active Apple Developer account/team Maps configuration created and linked Active Maps-enabled signing key Domain-restricted token setup I tested multiple JWT variants: with origin without origin (basic example style) with and without exp exact domain and wildcard domain variants I also tested using a minimal/basic MapKit JS integration and still got the same result. Bootstrap request: `curl -s --compressed -D - \ 'https://cdn.apple-mapkit.com/ma/bootstrap?apiVersion=2&mkjsVersion=5.81.60&poi=1' \ -H 'Authorization: Bearer <JWT>' \ -H 'Origin: https://<my-domain>' \ -H 'Referer: https://<my-domain>/...' Result is always:` HTTP 401 {"error":{"message":"Not Authorized","details":[]}} Important detail: mapkit.core.js loads successfully (HTTP 200) failure happens only on bootstrap auth Has anyone seen this exact behavior with empty details and found what was wrong? Any checklist for hidden misconfiguration points (key linkage, token generation method, domain restriction behavior, propagation timing) would help.

Direction data not available with U2 chip (iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro) when using Murata SR040/SR150 accessory
Hello, I am developing with the Nearby Interaction framework using third-party UWB accessories (Murata SR040/SR150). I observed a difference between U1-based and U2-based iPhones: iPhone 12 Pro (U1 chip) NINearbyObject.direction returns valid 3D vector (x, y, z). Distance and direction both work as expected. iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro (U2 chip) NINearbyObject.direction is always nil. Only distance is returned (around 0.35–0.40 m in my test). Effectively behaves as "distance-only mode". Environment: Hardware: iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro iOS version: 18.5 Accessory: Murata UWB SR040 / SR150 App: Using NINearbyAccessoryConfiguration with BLE-based discovery Info.plist includes NSNearbyInteractionUsageDescription Camera assistance was tested both ON and OFF Expectation: I expected the U2 chip to behave consistently with U1, i.e. provide direction vectors when possible. Instead, on iPhone 15 Pro, direction is always unavailable (nil) while distance is returned correctly. Questions: Is this an intentional limitation for U2 chip + third-party accessories? Is there a new requirement (e.g. certification, firmware update, capability flags) to enable direction on U2 devices? Could this be related to NIDeviceCapability or the new Extended Distance Measurement (EDM) mode in U2? Thanks in advance for any clarification.

Errors with PerfPowerTelemetryClientRegistrationService and PPSClientDonation when running iOS application in Xcode
I've suddenly started seeing hundreds of the same block of four error messages (see attached image) when running my app on my iOS device through Xcode. I've tried Cleaning the Build folder, but I keep seeing these messages in the console but can't find anything about them. Phone is running iOS 26.1. Xcode is at 16.4. Mac is on Sequoia 15.5. The app is primarily a MapKit SwiftUI based application. Messages below: Connection error: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=4099 "The connection to service named com.apple.PerfPowerTelemetryClientRegistrationService was invalidated: Connection init failed at lookup with error 159 - Sandbox restriction." Background location stops with (kCLErrorDomain error 1.) but permission was granted
We are currently experiencing a very interesting issue when accessing the location in the background with CLLocationManager. The user has given our app the "whenInUse" permission for locations and in most cases the app provides location updates even when it's in the background. However, when we started to use other navigation apps in the foreground we saw that the func locationManager(_ manager: CLLocationManager, didFailWithError error: Error) method was called with (kCLErrorDomain error 1.). The user hasn't changed the location permission and we saw that locations were delivered once the user opened the app again. I don't see anything in the documentation explaining this issue, but I chatted with other developers that confirm that specific behavior. Am I missing something here?

DL-TDoA support using Nearby Interaction framework
Hi, Apple recently announced DL-TDoA (Downlink TDoA) support on iOS26. This API is currently marked as Beta. We are working on integrating this functionality into our app, already added the APIs and tried to configure a new DL-TDoA session using NIDLTDOAConfiguration (the only parameter it takes is networkIdentifer). The session is configured but automatically invalidated by the OS. When is DL-TDoA expected to be fully supported by phones? Can we expect a detailed documentation or specification explaining how to arrange the session with the DT-Anchors (channel, ranging duration, ...)? Do we need Bluetooth LE connection with the anchors while running DL-TDoA? We already have the 4 DT-Anchors (1 initiator and 3 responders) ready, looking forward to be able to test this new exciting feature and get DL-TDoA measurements to trilaterate the phone position within a map. Stopping and Resuming Background Location Activity with CLLocationUpdates and CLBackgroundActivitySession
Hello, This is my first post in the forums, and I'm still learning my way with iOS Development and Swift. My apologies if the formatting is not correct, or If I'm making any mistakes. I'm currently trying to implement an iOS App where the device needs to share the location with my server via an API call. The use case is as follows: the server expects location updates to determine if a device is inside/outside a geofence. If the device is stationary, no locations need to be sent. If the device begins moving, regardless of whether the app is in foreground, background, or terminated, the app should resume posting locations to the server. I've decided to use the CLLocationUpdate.liveUpdates() stream, together with CLBackgroundActivitySession(). However, I have not been able to achieve the behavior successfully. My app either maintains the blue CLActivitySession indicator active, regardless of whether the phone is stationary or not, or kills the Indicator (and the background capability) and does not restore it when moving again. My understanding is that the liveUpdates stream is capable of emitting values, even if the app has gone to the background/terminated, thus why I'm trying to stop/resume the Background Activity using the "stationary" or "isStationary" attribute coming from the update. Is the behavior I'm trying to achieve possible? If so, I'm I using the right libraries for it? Is my implementation correct? And If not, what would be the recommended approach? Regards

Apple Maps Server API /v1/token returns 401 with newly created Maps tokens, and Try Maps Server API also fails
Hi, Our Apple Maps integration has been working normally for years, but starting today, newly created Maps tokens suddenly became unusable. Tokens created from the Apple Developer backend now return 401 Unauthorized everywhere we test them. We can reproduce this in: our own code Apple’s Try Maps Server API page MapKit JS So this does not appear to be limited to our app code. We also tested through a US network entry point to rule out a mainland China network issue, but the result was the same. At the moment, Maps tokens created in the backend seem to be unusable in all cases on our side. Has anyone else seen this today, or is there any known issue affecting Maps token creation or validation? Thanks.

MapKit JS authorization token invalid for Chinese network
Hello 👋🏼, We are using MapKit JS to display maps on our application working on two domains .com and .cn. Everything is working for all ours users in the world except for users using Chinese local network. After investigation, there is an error display in the browser console: [MapKit] Initialization failed because the authorization token is invalid. As the tokens are used as they are for the rest of the world, we know that they are valid... 😕 Problem appears on all browsers: Current versions of MapKit JS mapkit-typescript @ 5.18.2 https://cdn.apple-mapkit.com/mk/5.49.x/mapkit.js Do you have any tips, suggestions to help us 🙏 ? Nearby Interaction / DL-TDoA (Beta): Need NITLDOA params; 16 Pro shows distance-only, 13 has direction
Apple recently announced DL-TDoA (Downlink TDoA) support on iOS 26, and the API is currently marked Beta. Using two iPhones (16 Pro and 13) on iOS 26.0 Beta, I’m starting a Nearby Interaction session and need to read NITLDOA parameters (address, carrier frequency offset, signal strength/RSSI), but I can’t find a supported way. I’m also seeing asymmetry: iPhone 13 reports distance+direction, while 16 Pro reports distance only. Is there a supported workflow/API to access those parameters, and any known device/OS constraints that would cause direction to be unavailable on 16 Pro?

Significant Disparity in Event Frequency Between CLCircularRegion (Legacy) and CLMonitor (iOS 17+) Geofencing APIs
1. The Inquiry Hello, I have been implementing a background geofencing feature and, during testing, I found a significant numerical difference in event callback frequency between the older CLCircularRegion API and the newer CLMonitor API (CLMonitor.CircularGeographicCondition), introduced in iOS 17. My testing was strictly conducted using the "Always Allow" location permission (requestAlwaysAuthorization()). I used both APIs in parallel under identical geofencing conditions and within the same implementation environment. Since a clear difference persists in the data, I suspect this may stem from structural differences in the internal mechanisms of the two APIs rather than an implementation error on my part. 2. Environment and Implementation Details (Proof of Integrity) I have ensured that my implementation adheres to Apple's guidelines and uses modern Swift concurrency features. A. Development Environment and Permissions iOS Version: iOS 18.x and later Xcode Version: Version 17A400 (Version 26.0.1) Location Authorization: Always permission obtained. Background Mode: Location updates is configured correctly in Info.plist. B. CLMonitor Initialization and Lifecycle I implemented robust lifecycle management to ensure CLMonitor is stable and persists correctly: Initialization: I performed CLLocationManager object allocation and related service setup (e.g., CLServiceSession set to always) within the call stack frame of didFinishLaunchingWithOptions. Monitor Management: I use an Actor-based Singleton pattern to guarantee that only a single CLMonitor instance is used application-wide. Event Monitoring: Following initialization, I allocated a background Task containing the for try await event in await monitor.events loop. This Task is explicitly managed to persist in the background until the application is terminated, ensuring continuous event listening. C. Registration Limit Management I manage both APIs to ensure they never exceed the recommended maximum of 20 simultaneously monitored regions/conditions. My logic removes the oldest item (LRU) when the limit is reached. The average registration counts during the test period were highly similar: Component Average Registered Count CLCircularRegion count 7.02 CLMonitor.CircularGeographicCondition count 7.04 This confirms that registration count is not the cause of the event frequency difference. 3. Data-Based Observation The test data (bubble_test_data_for_apple_forum.csv) records the event callbacks for both APIs under identical conditions: Component Total Count Percentage of All Events (%) CLCircularRegion Delegate Total Calls 617 83.56% CLMonitor Event Total Fires 122 16.44% Overall Total Count 739 100% A. Key Findings CLCircularRegion Operability: 617 calls confirm that core implementation factors (permissions, background setup, etc.) are functioning correctly. Disparity in Frequency: Despite running in parallel, the CLMonitor event count (122) is approximately 1/5th the frequency of the CLCircularRegion calls (617). Efficiency per Registration: CLCircularRegion averaged ~0.86 calls per registered item, while CLMonitor averaged only ~0.17 calls per registered item. 4. Questions for Apple Engineering Based on the robust implementation and the data presented, I request a review of the following potential differences between the APIs: Internal Mechanism Differences: Are there structural differences in how CLCircularRegion and CLMonitor.CircularGeographicCondition process and schedule geofencing event callbacks? For instance, do they differ in terms of battery optimization priority, event batching, or internal throttling mechanisms? CLMonitor Event Ratio: Is the phenomenon where CLMonitor records a significantly lower ratio of events compared to CLCircularRegion an intended behavior, or could this be indicative of a specific environmental factor that affects the newer API differently? NINearbyObject.direction always nil on iPhone 15 (U2) with NINearbyAccessoryConfiguration — intentional or bug?
I'm developing a spatial tracking app using a Qorvo DWM3001CDK (MFi-certified UWB accessory) with NINearbyAccessoryConfiguration. On iPhone 15 (iOS 26.3.1, second-generation UWB chip): supportsDirectionMeasurement = false NINearbyObject.direction is always nil NINearbyObject.distance works correctly (~63Hz) Camera Assistance (isCameraAssistanceEnabled=true) provides horizontalAngle only after ARKit convergence (~10s), and only while the phone is moving On iPhone 12/13 (first-generation UWB chip), direction works correctly with the same accessory. My questions: Is the removal of instantaneous direction measurement for third-party accessories on second-generation UWB devices intentional? Or is this a regression that will be fixed in a future iOS update? If intentional, what is the recommended approach for apps that need real-time direction to a UWB accessory on iPhone 15/16? Camera Assistance requires phone movement and only works with stationary targets, which doesn't work for our use case (tracking a moving object with the phone mounted on a gimbal). Are there any plans to provide instantaneous direction measurement for NINearbyAccessoryConfiguration on second-generation UWB devices? MapKit SwiftUI Map with .standard(elevation: .realistic) falls back to 2D in globe mode, while .hybrid(elevation: .realistic) remains 3D
Overview When using SwiftUI Map with .standard(elevation: .realistic) and a globe-style presentation, the map unexpectedly renders as a flat 2D map instead of a 3D globe / realistic terrain view. In the same view, switching to .hybrid(elevation: .realistic) preserves the expected 3D globe behavior. This appears to be a rendering bug or regression specific to the .standard style under globe mode, not an app-level issue. The issue is reproducible in my app’s competition map screen and has also been reported by other developers online. Steps to Reproduce Create a SwiftUI Map. Bind it to a MapCameraPosition. Apply a standard map style with realistic elevation: .mapStyle(.standard(elevation: .realistic)) Configure the UI so the user can switch between: standard + globe hybrid + globe Zoom out / interact with the map in globe mode. Expected Results Map with .standard(elevation: .realistic) should continue to render with globe / 3D realistic terrain behavior, consistent with realistic elevation support and similar to .hybrid(elevation: .realistic). Actual Results When the map style is .standard(elevation: .realistic) in globe mode, the map falls back to a flat 2D-looking representation. Changing the same map to .hybrid(elevation: .realistic) restores the expected 3D globe rendering. Regression Unknown, but this appears to be unintended behavior because: realistic elevation is intended to provide realistic terrain / 3D map rendering, and there are no overlays in this map configuration that should intentionally force the map into a flat representation. This suggests the issue is tied specifically to the .standard rendering path in SwiftUI Map / MapKit, rather than camera state, annotations, or location handling. My map does include annotations, but it does not add overlays that would intentionally flatten realistic terrain. Environment Xcode: Xcode 26.4 (17E192) SDK: SDK Version 26.4 (23E237) Device: iPhone 17 Pro iOS version: iOS 26.5 Beta 2 Reproducibility: Always App type: SwiftUI app using MapKit Map Additional Notes The issue is visible in a production app screen, not only a toy sample. The problem appears style-specific: .standard(elevation: .realistic) → incorrect 2D fallback .hybrid(elevation: .realistic) → expected 3D behavior This makes standard map style unusable for globe presentation in my app.

Request of CarPlay Navigation Entitlement when having the Driving Task one
I have the CarPlay Entitlement "Driving Task" and two of my apps use it. Now, in both apps, I have implemented Navigation. I requested the Navigation CarPlay Entitlement when the feature was mature and builds were available in Test Flight, since I wanted to release the new versions of the apps with navigation available both on the iPhone and in CarPlay. I got no answer to my request, so I decided to release the apps with only navigation in the iPhone and the Driving Task functionality in CarPlay, thinking that maybe being live with navigation in the App Store was a requirement. I have asked permission again, and so far, the request is being ignored again. What are the requirements to get the Navigation CarPlay Entitlement? If the app is approved for navigation, is there something else the app must do to get the entitlement? Requirements for CarPlay Entitlements seem quite obscure, are they listed anywhere? Is there a technical problem to move from an existing CarPlay Entitlement to another? Can that be the reason the entitlement has not been granted? Some of my competitors have the CarPlay Navigation entitlement. My use case is the same (in a better app in my opinion, of course). But I am only getting bad reviews because "the app does not include the map in CarPlay" after the big investment in implementing navigation in the apps. Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Background location indicator stuck in dynamic island when using CLServiceSession and CLBackgroundActivitySession
We have a setup that's really close to the one used in the example project - Monitoring location changes with Core Location. In short, we have a flag that indicates whether or not we should start background location monitoring. If the flag is on, after the app starts, we Create a CLServiceSession with authorization: .always Create a CLBackgroundActivitySession The user can perform an action (press a button) to toggle the flag off, in which case we invalidate and dispose of the CLServiceSession and CLBackgroundActivitySession instances and cancel any liveUpdates observation. So far, so good, everything works as expected. However, we're experiencing a weird behavior on iPhones with Dynamic Island after there's an app update. When the user is on the same app version, the behavior is correct. have the flag on, background location monitoring works fine, when the app is in the the background, there's correctly a location indicator in Dynamic Island the user can go back to the app and turn the flag off (disposing of instances, cancelling location observation), and when the app is in the background, there is no location indicator in Dynamic Island The problem arises when the user updates the app open version 1.0 of the app have the flag on, background location monitoring works fine, when the app is in the the background, there's correctly a location indicator in Dynamic Island download an app update - version 2.0 the app restarts, didFinishLaunchingWithOptions gets called again and we start the background services dynamic island indicator is correctly showing a location indicator the user goes into the app, toggles the flag off - turning location observation off, we dispose of everything now, when the app is moved to the background, there's still a location indicator in the Dynamic Island, even though we're no longer observing location The indicator is hard to get rid of, there are only 2 ways we've found restart the device, or uninstall the app The question is - is this a bug in the system? Or is there anything we should be doing actively after an app update? Thank you!

MapKit JS 401 Not Authorized (details empty) even with multiple token variants
Hi everyone, I’m troubleshooting a persistent MapKit JS auth issue and would appreciate any advice. I have: Active Apple Developer account/team Maps configuration created and linked Active Maps-enabled signing key Domain-restricted token setup I tested multiple JWT variants: with origin without origin (basic example style) with and without exp exact domain and wildcard domain variants I also tested using a minimal/basic MapKit JS integration and still got the same result. Direction data not available with U2 chip (iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro) when using Murata SR040/SR150 accessory
Hello, I am developing with the Nearby Interaction framework using third-party UWB accessories (Murata SR040/SR150). I observed a difference between U1-based and U2-based iPhones: iPhone 12 Pro (U1 chip) NINearbyObject.direction returns valid 3D vector (x, y, z). Distance and direction both work as expected. iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro (U2 chip) NINearbyObject.direction is always nil. Only distance is returned (around 0.35–0.40 m in my test). Effectively behaves as "distance-only mode". Environment: Hardware: iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro iOS version: 18.5 Accessory: Murata UWB SR040 / SR150 App: Using NINearbyAccessoryConfiguration with BLE-based discovery Info.plist includes NSNearbyInteractionUsageDescription Camera assistance was tested both ON and OFF Expectation: I expected the U2 chip to behave consistently with U1, i.e. provide direction vectors when possible. Instead, on iPhone 15 Pro, direction is always unavailable (nil) while distance is returned correctly. Questions: Is this an intentional limitation for U2 chip + third-party accessories? Is there a new requirement (e.g. certification, firmware update, capability flags) to enable direction on U2 devices? Could this be related to NIDeviceCapability or the new Extended Distance Measurement (EDM) mode in U2? Thanks in advance for any clarification.

Errors with PerfPowerTelemetryClientRegistrationService and PPSClientDonation when running iOS application in Xcode
I've suddenly started seeing hundreds of the same block of four error messages (see attached image) when running my app on my iOS device through Xcode. I've tried Cleaning the Build folder, but I keep seeing these messages in the console but can't find anything about them. Phone is running iOS 26.1. Xcode is at 16.4. Mac is on Sequoia 15.5. The app is primarily a MapKit SwiftUI based application. Background location stops with (kCLErrorDomain error 1.) but permission was granted
We are currently experiencing a very interesting issue when accessing the location in the background with CLLocationManager. The user has given our app the "whenInUse" permission for locations and in most cases the app provides location updates even when it's in the background. However, when we started to use other navigation apps in the foreground we saw that the func locationManager(_ manager: CLLocationManager, didFailWithError error: Error) method was called with (kCLErrorDomain error 1.). The user hasn't changed the location permission and we saw that locations were delivered once the user opened the app again. I don't see anything in the documentation explaining this issue, but I chatted with other developers that confirm that specific behavior. Am I missing something here?

DL-TDoA support using Nearby Interaction framework
Hi, Apple recently announced DL-TDoA (Downlink TDoA) support on iOS26. This API is currently marked as Beta. We are working on integrating this functionality into our app, already added the APIs and tried to configure a new DL-TDoA session using NIDLTDOAConfiguration (the only parameter it takes is networkIdentifer). The session is configured but automatically invalidated by the OS. When is DL-TDoA expected to be fully supported by phones? Can we expect a detailed documentation or specification explaining how to arrange the session with the DT-Anchors (channel, ranging duration, ...)? Do we need Bluetooth LE connection with the anchors while running DL-TDoA? We already have the 4 DT-Anchors (1 initiator and 3 responders) ready, looking forward to be able to test this new exciting feature and get DL-TDoA measurements to trilaterate the phone position within a map. Stopping and Resuming Background Location Activity with CLLocationUpdates and CLBackgroundActivitySession
Hello, This is my first post in the forums, and I'm still learning my way with iOS Development and Swift. My apologies if the formatting is not correct, or If I'm making any mistakes. I'm currently trying to implement an iOS App where the device needs to share the location with my server via an API call. The use case is as follows: the server expects location updates to determine if a device is inside/outside a geofence. If the device is stationary, no locations need to be sent. If the device begins moving, regardless of whether the app is in foreground, background, or terminated, the app should resume posting locations to the server. I've decided to use the CLLocationUpdate.liveUpdates() stream, together with CLBackgroundActivitySession(). However, I have not been able to achieve the behavior successfully. My app either maintains the blue CLActivitySession indicator active, regardless of whether the phone is stationary or not, or kills the Indicator (and the background capability) and does not restore it when moving again. My understanding is that the liveUpdates stream is capable of emitting values, even if the app has gone to the background/terminated, thus why I'm trying to stop/resume the Background Activity using the "stationary" or "isStationary" attribute coming from the update. Is the behavior I'm trying to achieve possible? If so, I'm I using the right libraries for it? Is my implementation correct? And If not, what would be the recommended approach? Regards

Apple Maps Server API /v1/token returns 401 with newly created Maps tokens, and Try Maps Server API also fails
Hi, Our Apple Maps integration has been working normally for years, but starting today, newly created Maps tokens suddenly became unusable. Tokens created from the Apple Developer backend now return 401 Unauthorized everywhere we test them. We can reproduce this in: our own code Apple’s Try Maps Server API page MapKit JS So this does not appear to be limited to our app code. We also tested through a US network entry point to rule out a mainland China network issue, but the result was the same. At the moment, Maps tokens created in the backend seem to be unusable in all cases on our side. Has anyone else seen this today, or is there any known issue affecting Maps token creation or validation? Thanks.

MapKit JS authorization token invalid for Chinese network
Hello 👋🏼, We are using MapKit JS to display maps on our application working on two domains .com and .cn. Everything is working for all ours users in the world except for users using Chinese local network. After investigation, there is an error display in the browser console: [MapKit] Initialization failed because the authorization token is invalid. As the tokens are used as they are for the rest of the world, we know that they are valid... 😕 Problem appears on all browsers: Current versions of MapKit JS mapkit-typescript @ 5.18.2 https://cdn.apple-mapkit.com/mk/5.49.x/mapkit.js Do you have any tips, suggestions to help us 🙏 ? Nearby Interaction / DL-TDoA (Beta): Need NITLDOA params; 16 Pro shows distance-only, 13 has direction
Apple recently announced DL-TDoA (Downlink TDoA) support on iOS 26, and the API is currently marked Beta. Using two iPhones (16 Pro and 13) on iOS 26.0 Beta, I’m starting a Nearby Interaction session and need to read NITLDOA parameters (address, carrier frequency offset, signal strength/RSSI), but I can’t find a supported way. I’m also seeing asymmetry: iPhone 13 reports distance+direction, while 16 Pro reports distance only. Is there a supported workflow/API to access those parameters, and any known device/OS constraints that would cause direction to be unavailable on 16 Pro?

Significant Disparity in Event Frequency Between CLCircularRegion (Legacy) and CLMonitor (iOS 17+) Geofencing APIs
1. The Inquiry Hello, I have been implementing a background geofencing feature and, during testing, I found a significant numerical difference in event callback frequency between the older CLCircularRegion API and the newer CLMonitor API (CLMonitor.CircularGeographicCondition), introduced in iOS 17. My testing was strictly conducted using the "Always Allow" location permission (requestAlwaysAuthorization()). I used both APIs in parallel under identical geofencing conditions and within the same implementation environment. Since a clear difference persists in the data, I suspect this may stem from structural differences in the internal mechanisms of the two APIs rather than an implementation error on my part. 2. Environment and Implementation Details (Proof of Integrity) I have ensured that my implementation adheres to Apple's guidelines and uses modern Swift concurrency features. A. Development Environment and Permissions iOS Version: iOS 18.x and later Xcode Version: Version 17A400 (Version 26.0.1) Location Authorization: Always permission obtained. Background Mode: Location updates is configured correctly in Info.plist. B. CLMonitor Initialization and Lifecycle I implemented robust lifecycle management to ensure CLMonitor is stable and persists correctly: Initialization: I performed CLLocationManager object allocation and related service setup (e.g., CLServiceSession set to always) within the call stack frame of didFinishLaunchingWithOptions. Monitor Management: I use an Actor-based Singleton pattern to guarantee that only a single CLMonitor instance is used application-wide. Event Monitoring: Following initialization, I allocated a background Task containing the for try await event in await monitor.events loop. This Task is explicitly managed to persist in the background until the application is terminated, ensuring continuous event listening. C. Registration Limit Management I manage both APIs to ensure they never exceed the recommended maximum of 20 simultaneously monitored regions/conditions. My logic removes the oldest item (LRU) when the limit is reached. The average registration counts during the test period were highly similar: Component Average Registered Count CLCircularRegion count 7.02 CLMonitor.CircularGeographicCondition count 7.04 This confirms that registration count is not the cause of the event frequency difference. 3. Data-Based Observation The test data (bubble_test_data_for_apple_forum.csv) records the event callbacks for both APIs under identical conditions: Component Total Count Percentage of All Events (%) CLCircularRegion Delegate Total Calls 617 83.56% CLMonitor Event Total Fires 122 16.44% Overall Total Count 739 100% A. Key Findings CLCircularRegion Operability: 617 calls confirm that core implementation factors (permissions, background setup, etc.) are functioning correctly. Disparity in Frequency: Despite running in parallel, the CLMonitor event count (122) is approximately 1/5th the frequency of the CLCircularRegion calls (617). Efficiency per Registration: CLCircularRegion averaged ~0.86 calls per registered item, while CLMonitor averaged only ~0.17 calls per registered item. 4. Questions for Apple Engineering Based on the robust implementation and the data presented, I request a review of the following potential differences between the APIs: Internal Mechanism Differences: Are there structural differences in how CLCircularRegion and CLMonitor.CircularGeographicCondition process and schedule geofencing event callbacks? For instance, do they differ in terms of battery optimization priority, event batching, or internal throttling mechanisms? CLMonitor Event Ratio: Is the phenomenon where CLMonitor records a significantly lower ratio of events compared to CLCircularRegion an intended behavior, or could this be indicative of a specific environmental factor that affects the newer API differently? NINearbyObject.direction always nil on iPhone 15 (U2) with NINearbyAccessoryConfiguration — intentional or bug?
I'm developing a spatial tracking app using a Qorvo DWM3001CDK (MFi-certified UWB accessory) with NINearbyAccessoryConfiguration. On iPhone 15 (iOS 26.3.1, second-generation UWB chip): supportsDirectionMeasurement = false NINearbyObject.direction is always nil NINearbyObject.distance works correctly (~63Hz) Camera Assistance (isCameraAssistanceEnabled=true) provides horizontalAngle only after ARKit convergence (~10s), and only while the phone is moving On iPhone 12/13 (first-generation UWB chip), direction works correctly with the same accessory. My questions: Is the removal of instantaneous direction measurement for third-party accessories on second-generation UWB devices intentional? Or is this a regression that will be fixed in a future iOS update? If intentional, what is the recommended approach for apps that need real-time direction to a UWB accessory on iPhone 15/16? Camera Assistance requires phone movement and only works with stationary targets, which doesn't work for our use case (tracking a moving object with the phone mounted on a gimbal). Are there any plans to provide instantaneous direction measurement for NINearbyAccessoryConfiguration on second-generation UWB devices? MapKit SwiftUI Map with .standard(elevation: .realistic) falls back to 2D in globe mode, while .hybrid(elevation: .realistic) remains 3D
Overview When using SwiftUI Map with .standard(elevation: .realistic) and a globe-style presentation, the map unexpectedly renders as a flat 2D map instead of a 3D globe / realistic terrain view. In the same view, switching to .hybrid(elevation: .realistic) preserves the expected 3D globe behavior. This appears to be a rendering bug or regression specific to the .standard style under globe mode, not an app-level issue. The issue is reproducible in my app’s competition map screen and has also been reported by other developers online. Steps to Reproduce Create a SwiftUI Map. Bind it to a MapCameraPosition. Apply a standard map style with realistic elevation: .mapStyle(.standard(elevation: .realistic)) Configure the UI so the user can switch between: standard + globe hybrid + globe Zoom out / interact with the map in globe mode. Expected Results Map with .standard(elevation: .realistic) should continue to render with globe / 3D realistic terrain behavior, consistent with realistic elevation support and similar to .hybrid(elevation: .realistic). Actual Results When the map style is .standard(elevation: .realistic) in globe mode, the map falls back to a flat 2D-looking representation. Changing the same map to .hybrid(elevation: .realistic) restores the expected 3D globe rendering. Regression Unknown, but this appears to be unintended behavior because: realistic elevation is intended to provide realistic terrain / 3D map rendering, and there are no overlays in this map configuration that should intentionally force the map into a flat representation. Request of CarPlay Navigation Entitlement when having the Driving Task one
I have the CarPlay Entitlement "Driving Task" and two of my apps use it. Now, in both apps, I have implemented Navigation. I requested the Navigation CarPlay Entitlement when the feature was mature and builds were available in Test Flight, since I wanted to release the new versions of the apps with navigation available both on the iPhone and in CarPlay. I got no answer to my request, so I decided to release the apps with only navigation in the iPhone and the Driving Task functionality in CarPlay, thinking that maybe being live with navigation in the App Store was a requirement. I have asked permission again, and so far, the request is being ignored again. What are the requirements to get the Navigation CarPlay Entitlement? If the app is approved for navigation, is there something else the app must do to get the entitlement? Requirements for CarPlay Entitlements seem quite obscure, are they listed anywhere? Is there a technical problem to move from an existing CarPlay Entitlement to another? Can that be the reason the entitlement has not been granted? Some of my competitors have the CarPlay Navigation entitlement. My use case is the same (in a better app in my opinion, of course). But I am only getting bad reviews because "the app does not include the map in CarPlay" after the big investment in implementing navigation in the apps. Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Background location indicator stuck in dynamic island when using CLServiceSession and CLBackgroundActivitySession
We have a setup that's really close to the one used in the example project - Monitoring location changes with Core Location. In short, we have a flag that indicates whether or not we should start background location monitoring. If the flag is on, after the app starts, we Create a CLServiceSession with authorization: .always Create a CLBackgroundActivitySession The user can perform an action (press a button) to toggle the flag off, in which case we invalidate and dispose of the CLServiceSession and CLBackgroundActivitySession instances and cancel any liveUpdates observation. So far, so good, everything works as expected. However, we're experiencing a weird behavior on iPhones with Dynamic Island after there's an app update. When the user is on the same app version, the behavior is correct. have the flag on, background location monitoring works fine, when the app is in the the background, there's correctly a location indicator in Dynamic Island the user can go back to the app and turn the flag off (disposing of instances, cancelling location observation), and when the app is in the background, there is no location indicator in Dynamic Island The problem arises when the user updates the app open version 1.0 of the app have the flag on, background location monitoring works fine, when the app is in the the background, there's correctly a location indicator in Dynamic Island download an app update - version 2.0 the app restarts, didFinishLaunchingWithOptions gets called again and we start the background services dynamic island indicator is correctly showing a location indicator the user goes into the app, toggles the flag off - turning location observation off, we dispose of everything now, when the app is moved to the background, there's still a location indicator in the Dynamic Island, even though we're no longer observing location The indicator is hard to get rid of, there are only 2 ways we've found restart the device, or uninstall the app The question is - is this a bug in the system? Or is there anything we should be doing actively after an app update? Thank you!
