Hello
I'm getting this error in my code and I don't know why. Can somebody explain this or point me at a help article.
import UIKit
var greeting = "Hello, playground"
let imageView = UIImageView()
imageView.image = UIImage(named: "image")
Utils.getImageSize(view: imageView)
class Utils {
static func getImageSize(view imageView: UIImageView) {
let image = imageView.image
print("Image size = \(image?.size ?? CGSize.zero)")
}
}
The error is as follows:

While demonstrating Swift Playground to my students, I noticed that, unlike Xcode, it doesn’t seem possible to predefine or insert custom code snippets. In Xcode, we can easily create and reuse our own code snippets to improve teaching and development efficiency, but I couldn’t find a similar feature in Swift Playground.
Is there currently a way to predefine or insert custom code snippets in Swift Playground? Are there any recommended workarounds, or plans to support this feature in the future? Any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated.
Hello everyone,
I’m completely new to programming and Apple development, but I’ve always had the strong wish to learn coding and to work more deeply with Apple’s system structures. My main questions are:
How should I best start learning? For example, is Swift Playgrounds the right first step?
How should I continue afterwards to gain further knowledge, possibly in areas like system architecture, cybersecurity, or cloud computing (even though I don’t want to commit too early to one direction)?
Can you recommend a learning schedule or intensity (e.g., how often per day or week I should practice) for someone who works full-time?
Is my current MacBook Air (2020, Intel i3, 8 GB RAM, 250 GB SSD) still suitable for learning and beginner development, or would you recommend upgrading to a newer model?
On top of that, my English is not perfect yet – is it possible to improve it alongside learning coding?
I’m very motivated to finally start this journey, even though I once turned down an IBM apprenticeship when I was younger. Now I want to give it a real try.
Any advice, personal experiences, or learning resources would be very much appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

I’m using Swift Playgrounds on macOS 26 to learn app development, starting with the “Get Started with Apps” template. Every time I run the template, macOS shows a popup asking:
“Get Started with Apps” wants to access data from other apps. Allow / Don’t Allow
I’ve already tried:
Granting Playgrounds Full Disk Access in System Settings → Privacy & Security
Checking Automation / App Permissions
Restarting Playgrounds and macOS
…but the popup still appears every run. I’m aware this is related to App Sandbox and privacy restrictions, but I’m looking for a way to:
Suppress this popup entirely while running playgrounds code, or
Run the template in a way that avoids triggering this permission request.
macOS version: 26.1
Playgrounds app version: 4.6.4

Hi,
First post and I am a total newbie when it comes to Ipads & Macs... And also this forum, so sorry if I post in wrong section.
My son use Ipad at school and they use Swift Playground there.
To be able to do some programming at home, I have set up Vmware with Sequoia 15.1.
I installed the app Swift Playground and try to run the playground Get Started with Code and some other education playgrounds.
If I understand correctly, it should be some landscape and a figure on the canvas... For me it is only a blue area.
I installed XCode, but could not figure out how to run the learning examples there. Tips? Is it possible to run the education playgrounds there?
I removed Swift Playgrounds and installed it again, same issue.
I also installed IOS 18.1 (?) but I am not sure it is needed.
Any suggestion of how I can get contents to show on the canvas? Except of bying an Ipad. ;)

I've entered some code on Version 4.5.1 of Playgrounds on my iPad mini running iOS 18.1.1. The file is saved on iCloud and so is available on my Mac running OS 15.2. However, the file will not open in either Playgrounds v 4.5.1 on the Mac (error "Unable to get file wrapper for contents.xcplayground.") or Xcode 16.1 (error "Couldn't load settings from contents.xcplayground"). The file's type is .playgorund. Any thoughts?
Hi, I have recently downloaded the app to start learning how to code in swift and so on.
On my first try I have gotten the error stating that ”.swiftpm files cannot be opened”. I have followed some forum posts. I restarted my iPad several times and redown the app several times. I tried to disable the iCloud sync but I think I deleted the iCloud directory entirely that just results in the app closing on any action taken. (such as pressing the “New App” option or choosing the quick actions to make apps).
Is there a way to fix this?
Any help is appreciate, please ask me to provide any extra needed information.

I keep trying to use the app but every time I try to click the module "get started with code" it crashes and produces an error log, attached.

I updated my iPad to iOS 18, but when I went into Swift Playgrounds it only had the iOS 17 SDK.
Maybe it has to with the fact that I’m on an iPad 9th Gen and it doesn’t have the Apple intelligence features so it can’t run the AI features.
I’m just wondering if I will be getting the new SwiftUI features such as the new TabBar or MeshGradients.

How do you save data from a Swift Playgrounds App on the Mac? I get an error 'playgroundSharedDataDirectory is not supported in Swift Playgrounds'
I think it's doable, some of the Swift Playgrounds tutorials remember the pages I've completed.
This is with Playgrounds 4.5.1 on a Mac mini M2 Pro running OSX 14.7 (Sonoma)
Ideally, I'd like to save multiple 'documents' and allow the user to select which one they want to work with. The documents don't need to be visible to other Apps.
Thanks in advance

Hello! I have asked this question in previous years, but I want to make sure I can be safe as each challenge could be different.
Are applicants for the Swift Student Challenge allowed to use the features and technologies involved with Metal/MetalKit? Last year, the answer was yes. I have seen a few people here and there use it with Swift and won.
I would like to know if we can use it for the 2025 challenge for this year as well.
Thanks! :)

I used Swift Playground to develop application in Mac OS. Also using ZStack I used limited area in full page (using .frame(width: $, height: $)). However using command + R or clicking start button to see preview .app, while non resizing application my ZStack show as cutted. Please tell me how to set preview .app frame size as width, height... The buttom code is ContentView.swift code.
@main
struct ContentView: App {
init() {
MyFont.registerFonts()
}
// @StateObject private var audioPlayer = AudioPlayer()
var body: some Scene {
WindowGroup {
NavigationStack {
StartMenuView()
.frame(minWidth: 594, maxWidth: 594,
minHeight: 1142, maxHeight: 1142)
.preferredColorScheme(.dark) // Dark Mod
.statusBar(hidden: true) // Hidden Status Bar
.edgesIgnoringSafeArea(.all) // Ignoring Safe Area
}
}
.windowResizability(.contentSize)
}
}
Thank you for reading.

With iOS 18.3.1 in Playground there is a different view in TabView: in Preview the systemImage are visible and the TabView is visible under, instead launching the app the systemImage it is no longer visible. How can I solve it? Thank you
I developed my app on xcode, and it builds fine for xcode on simulator. However, when I transferred the swiftpm file to my ipad, the playground failed to build with only the error message "Build failed", while preview on playgrounds works fine.
I am not sure what the cause of the error is, if anyone has any tips that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I had several library projects that were working in Swift Playgrounds < 4.6 but I get several duplicate compilation errors and previews will not build in Swift Playgrounds > 4.6. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
Example project:
This project builds and runs fine under Swift Playgrounds 4.5.1 however it will not run complaining multiple commands produce generated output files under Swift Playgrounds 4.6.1, 4.6.2, and 4.6.3.
https://github.com/kudit/Compatibility
Download this repository and add the extension ".swiftpm" to the folder and double click to open in Swift Playgrounds. If running on earlier Swift Playgrounds you can see there are no errors and previews work great (on both macOS and iPadOS versions of Swift Playgrounds 4.5.x). However, on Swift Playgrounds 4.6.x, previews will not display.
Are embedded libraries not support anymore? This would be very disappointing.

I’m looking to publish an app I’ve written on my iPad (Air, to be exact), but I can’t make a screenshot at the required size (which is Pro). And yes, I don’t have a Mac (yeah, I know).
Is there an easy or simple way to get a screenshot of an app if I don’t have the right hardware? Is this something I could scale/resize from a smaller device? Or, could I just include a portion of the actual screenshot in a picture (with the correct dimension) that has other text/information?
any help would be greatly appreciated

After updating playgroud to the latest 4.6.3 version, the original sample app download interface disappeared. I tried many methods but couldn't find it again. How should I retrieve it again? Or was it deleted in this version?

Hi there, I'm currently learning how to write some code using Swift Playgrounds on my Mac, and I'm wondering if there's a way to install the code I create onto my iPhone, like a regular app.
I've searched online quite a bit but haven't found any clear or definitive answers.
Many resources mention a "Run on iPhone" option in Swift Playgrounds, but I don't see that button in my version. I even installed Xcode and connected my iPhone to my Mac, following the instructions I found, but the "Run on iPhone" option still doesn't appear in Playgrounds.
I've updated my Mac, iPhone, and Playgrounds to the latest version. Thank you for your help!

How can I enable "Extended Runtime Sessions" for a companion watch app? Here https://developer.apple.com/documentation/watchkit/using-extended-runtime-sessions
in targets under 'Signing & Capabilities' I checked "Audio" and Session Type 'Mindfulness',
I created an ExtendedRuntimeManager.swift file. When running a simulation the error message says
"Extended Runtime Session ungültig: Reason=-1, Error=This application does not have appropriate permissions to schedule a session."
How does the app get the 'appropriate permissions'?
