ARView ignores multi-touch events
Hi, How to enable multitouch on ARView? Touch functions (touchesBegan, touchesMoved, ...) seem to only handle one touch at a time. In order to handle multiple touches at a time with ARView, I have to either: Use SwiftUI .simultaneousGesture on top of an ARView representable Position a UIView on top of ARView to capture touches and do hit testing by passing a reference to ARView Expected behavior: ARView should capture all touches via touchesBegan/Moved/Ended/Cancelled. Here is what I tried, on iOS 26.1 and macOS 26.1: ARView Multitouch The setup below is a minimal ARView presented by SwiftUI, with touch events handled inside ARView. Multitouch doesn't work with this setup. Note that multitouch wouldn't work either if the ARView is presented with a UIViewController instead of SwiftUI. import RealityKit import SwiftUI struct ARViewMultiTouchView: View { var body: some View { ZStack { ARViewMultiTouchRepresentable() .ignoresSafeArea() } } } #Preview { ARViewMultiTouchView() } // MARK: Representable ARView struct ARViewMultiTouchRepresentable: UIViewRepresentable { func makeUIView(context: Context) -> ARView { let arView = ARViewMultiTouch(frame: .zero) let anchor = AnchorEntity() arView.scene.addAnchor(anchor) let boxWidth: Float = 0.4 let boxMaterial = SimpleMaterial(color: .red, isMetallic: false) let box = ModelEntity(mesh: .generateBox(size: boxWidth), materials: [boxMaterial]) box.name = "Box" box.components.set(CollisionComponent(shapes: [.generateBox(width: boxWidth, height: boxWidth, depth: boxWidth)])) anchor.addChild(box) return arView } func updateUIView(_ uiView: ARView, context: Context) { } } // MARK: ARView class ARViewMultiTouch: ARView { required init(frame: CGRect) { super.init(frame: frame) /// Enable multi-touch isMultipleTouchEnabled = true cameraMode = .nonAR automaticallyConfigureSession = false environment.background = .color(.gray) /// Disable gesture recognizers to not conflict with touch events /// But it doesn't fix the issue gestureRecognizers?.forEach { $0.isEnabled = false } } required dynamic init?(coder decoder: NSCoder) { fatalError("init(coder:) has not been implemented") } override func touchesBegan(_ touches: Set<UITouch>, with event: UIEvent?) { for touch in touches { /// # Problem /// This should print for every new touch, up to 5 simultaneously on an iPhone (multi-touch) /// But it only fires for one touch at a time (single-touch) print("Touch began at: \(touch.location(in: self))") } } } Multitouch with an Overlay This setup works, but it doesn't seem right. There must be a solution to make ARView handle multi touch directly, right? import SwiftUI import RealityKit struct MultiTouchOverlayView: View { var body: some View { ZStack { MultiTouchOverlayRepresentable() .ignoresSafeArea() Text("Multi touch with overlay view") .font(.system(size: 24, weight: .medium)) .foregroundStyle(.white) .offset(CGSize(width: 0, height: -150)) } } } #Preview { MultiTouchOverlayView() } // MARK: Representable Container struct MultiTouchOverlayRepresentable: UIViewRepresentable { func makeUIView(context: Context) -> UIView { /// The view that SwiftUI will present let container = UIView() /// ARView let arView = ARView(frame: container.bounds) arView.autoresizingMask = [.flexibleWidth, .flexibleHeight] arView.cameraMode = .nonAR arView.automaticallyConfigureSession = false arView.environment.background = .color(.gray) let anchor = AnchorEntity() arView.scene.addAnchor(anchor) let boxWidth: Float = 0.4 let boxMaterial = SimpleMaterial(color: .red, isMetallic: false) let box = ModelEntity(mesh: .generateBox(size: boxWidth), materials: [boxMaterial]) box.name = "Box" box.components.set(CollisionComponent(shapes: [.generateBox(width: boxWidth, height: boxWidth, depth: boxWidth)])) anchor.addChild(box) /// The view that will capture touches let touchOverlay = TouchOverlayView(frame: container.bounds) touchOverlay.autoresizingMask = [.flexibleWidth, .flexibleHeight] touchOverlay.backgroundColor = .clear /// Pass an arView reference to the overlay for hit testing touchOverlay.arView = arView /// Add views to the container. /// ARView goes in first, at the bottom. container.addSubview(arView) /// TouchOverlay goes in last, on top. container.addSubview(touchOverlay) return container } func updateUIView(_ uiView: UIView, context: Context) { } } // MARK: Touch Overlay View /// A UIView to handle multi-touch on top of ARView class TouchOverlayView: UIView { weak var arView: ARView? override init(frame: CGRect) { super.init(frame: frame) isMultipleTouchEnabled = true isUserInteractionEnabled = true } required init?(coder: NSCoder) { fatalError("init(coder:) has not been implemented") } override func touchesBegan(_ touches: Set<UITouch>, with event: UIEvent?) { let totalTouches = event?.allTouches?.count ?? touches.count print("--- Touches Began --- (New: \(touches.count), Total: \(totalTouches))") for touch in touches { let location = touch.location(in: self) /// Hit testing. /// ARView and Touch View must be of the same size if let arView = arView { let entity = arView.entity(at: location) if let entity = entity { print("Touched entity: \(entity.name)") } else { print("Touched: none") } } } } override func touchesCancelled(_ touches: Set<UITouch>, with event: UIEvent?) { let totalTouches = event?.allTouches?.count ?? touches.count print("--- Touches Cancelled --- (Cancelled: \(touches.count), Total: \(totalTouches))") } }

SCNTechnique clearColor Always Shows sceneBackground When Passes Share Depth Buffer
Problem Description I'm encountering an issue with SCNTechnique where the clearColor setting is being ignored when multiple passes share the same depth buffer. The clear color always appears as the scene background, regardless of what value I set. The minimal project for reproducing the issue: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/30mx06xunh75wgl3t4sbd/SCNTechniqueCustomSymbols.zip?rlkey=yuehjtk7xh2pmdbetv2r8t2lx&st=b9uobpkp&dl=0 Problem Details In my SCNTechnique configuration, I have two passes that need to share the same depth buffer for proper occlusion handling: "passes": [ "box1_pass": [ "draw": "DRAW_SCENE", "includeCategoryMask": 1, "colorStates": [ "clear": true, "clearColor": "0 0 0 0" // Expecting transparent black ], "depthStates": [ "clear": true, "enableWrite": true ], "outputs": [ "depth": "box1_depth", "color": "box1_color" ], ], "box2_pass": [ "draw": "DRAW_SCENE", "includeCategoryMask": 2, "colorStates": [ "clear": true, "clearColor": "0 0 0 0" // Also expecting transparent black ], "depthStates": [ "clear": false, "enableWrite": false ], "outputs": [ "depth": "box1_depth", // Sharing the same depth buffer "color": "box2_color", ], ], "final_quad": [ "draw": "DRAW_QUAD", "metalVertexShader": "myVertexShader", "metalFragmentShader": "myFragmentShader", "inputs": [ "box1_color": "box1_color", "box2_color": "box2_color", ], "outputs": [ "color": "COLOR" ] ] ] And the metal shader used to display box1_color and box2_color with splitting: fragment half4 myFragmentShader(VertexOut in [[stage_in]], texture2d<half, access::sample> box1_color [[texture(0)]], texture2d<half, access::sample> box2_color [[texture(1)]]) { half4 color1 = box1_color.sample(s, in.texcoord); half4 color2 = box2_color.sample(s, in.texcoord); if (in.texcoord.x < 0.5) { return color1; } return color2; }; Expected Behavior Both passes should clear their color targets to transparent black (0, 0, 0, 0) The depth buffer should be shared between passes for proper occlusion Actual Behavior Both box1_color and box2_color targets contain the scene background instead of being cleared to transparent (see attached image) This happens even when I explicitly set clearColor: "0 0 0 0" for both passes Setting scene.background.contents = UIColor.clear makes the clearColor work as expected, but I need to keep the scene background for other purposes What I've Tried Setting different clearColor values - all are ignored when sharing depth buffer Using DRAW_NODE instead of DRAW_SCENE - didn't solve the issue Creating a separate pass to capture the background - the background still appears in the other passes Various combinations of clear flags and render orders Environment iOS/macOS, running with "My Mac (Designed for iPad)" Xcode 16.2 Question Is this a known limitation of SceneKit when passes share a depth buffer? Is there a workaround to achieve truly transparent clear colors while maintaining a shared depth buffer for occlusion testing? The core issue seems to be that SceneKit automatically renders the scene background in every DRAW_SCENE pass when a shared depth buffer is detected, overriding any clearColor settings. Any insights or workarounds would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The description of set_indices in the MSL reference seems incorrect.
I'm currently learning Metal. While reading the reference, I came across a strange description. Page 78 in Version 4 Reference (2025-10-25) says: It is legal to call the following set_indices functions to set the indices if the position in the index buffer is valid and if the position in the index buffer is a multiple of 2 (uchar2 overload) or 2 (uchar4 overload). The index I needs to be in the range [0, max_indices). void set_indices(uint I, uchar2 v); void set_indices(uint I, uchar4 v); However, it seems that the uchar4 overload should be multiple of 4. Furthermore, there is no explanation of what these methods actually do. I believe it involves setting two to four consecutive indices at once, but there is no mention of that here. I would like to know if the above understanding is correct.

Many CGECreateKeyboardEvent in quick succession causing function and dictation buttons to be pressed?
Hi! I hope everyone reading is doing well. I am working on developing a reinforcement learning agent that involves sending scan codes to a window, which I've been doing by sending virtual scan codes with CGEventCreateKeyboardEvent per the docs. There is no event source when I send the keyboard events. However, when many keyboard events are happening (with the keys 'q', 'w', 'e', 'r', 'f', 'd', 's', space, arrow keys) in quick succession (<250ms), the enable dictation popup or the function button emojis popup appear for seemingly no reason. I have verified that I am using the correct scan codes for these keypresses, so I am wondering what else could cause this to happen. It is as if I am choosing to press f5 or fn. It does not happen when 'a' is the only button being pressed in quick succession. One thing that I have not been able to easily find is the scan code inputs for dictation nor the function button. do these scan codes overlap somehow? Thank you all for the help! Hunter

Walking an entity around an immersive space in visionOS like the window drag bar
I'm trying to understand how Apple handles dragging windows around in an immersive space. 3d Gestures seem to be only half of the solution in that they are great if you're standing still and want to move the window an exaggerated amount around the environment, but if you then start walking while dragging, the amplified gesture sends the entity flying off into the distance. It seems they quickly transition from one coordinate system to another depending on if the user is physically moving. If you drag a window and start walking the movement suddenly matches your speed. When you stop moving, you can push and pull the windows around again like a super hero. Am I missing something obvious in how to copy this behavior? Hello world, which uses the 3d gesture has the same problem. You can move the world around but if you walk with it, it flies off. Are they tracking the head movement and if it's moved more than a certain amount it uses that offset instead? Is there anything out of the box that can do this before I try and hack my own solution?

Game Center Challenges and Activities are not appearing
Hi, I'm trying to add game center challenges and activities to an already live game, but they are not appearing in game for testing, GameCenter, or the Games app. I know the game is setup with GameKit entitlements since this is a live game and it has working leaderboards and achievements. I've updated to Tahoe beta 8, added a challenge and activity on app store connect, added that to a new distribution and added that distribution to 'Add for Review' I'm using Unity and the Apple Unity plugin Not sure what other steps I'm missing Thanks

Combining render encoders
When I take a frame capture of my application in Xcode, it shows a warning that reads "Your application created separate command encoders which can be combined into a single encoder. By combining these encoders you may reduce your application's load/store bandwidth usage." In the minimal reproduction case I've identified for this warning, I have two render pipeline states: The first writes to the current drawable, the depth buffer, and a secondary color buffer. The second writes only to the current drawable. Because these are writing to a different set of outputs, I was initially creating two separate render command encoders to handle the draws under each of these states. My understanding is that Xcode is telling me I could only create one, however when I try to do that, I get runtime asserts when attempting to apply the second render pipeline state since it doesn't have a matching attachment configured for the second color buffer or for the depth buffer, so I can't just combine the encoders. Is the only solution here to detect and propagate forward the color/depth attachments from the first state into the creation of the second state? Is there any way to suppress this specific warning in Xcode?

In my opinion, there is also the right option for this under Core Graphics. Unfortunately, the documentation does not show what is 'kCGPDFContextCreatePDFA' or 'kCGPDFContextLinearizedPDF' for a stringvalue is required. What I have already tried: GTS_PDFA1 , PDF/A-1, true as CFString. (Above my CFDictionary. ...Author e.g are working perfectly.) In the Finder you can see these two options, which I would also like to implement in my app. Thank you in advance!

Testing Gamecenter Accounts
HI all, I'm in the early stages of testing a game that will have real-time device-to-device communication using GameCenter. I've read something about setting up GameCenter "sandbox" accounts to test prior to the game's release, but I can't find anything reliable about how to do so. I've found lots of web pages which purport to describe how to do this task, but what they describe seems to be outdated, as the steps don't appear to be available in modern versions of iOS. I'm testing on iOS 18 and 26. Document search isn't helping--I mostly find information on how to set up StoreKit sandbox accounts, which I assume are different things altogether--so if you could point me towards an article that allows me to test a new, unreleased GameKit app between devices, I'd appreciate it. People are developing GameCenter apps, so I know it's possible... advTHANKSance

iPhone Pro Model - RefreshRate
I want to display the refresh rate on the screen of the iPhone (14 Pro Max), but each app of the App Store's "Floating Clock", "Floating Clock Premium" and "Screen Renewal Rate - RefreshRate Realtime" can only display two of 60Hz and 120Hz, and I wonder if it can display numbers of 1Hz, 10Hz, tens of Hz, or more than 3 levels. Does anyone know how to do it?

How to obtain frame rate for iOS proMotion devices
Due to the release of ProMotion devices, the system may switch frame rates in certain scenarios, resulting in the loss of reference value for data collected through CADisplayLink callbacks at a fixed 60Hz frame rate. We cannot distinguish whether the slow callback of CADisplayLink is due to a stutter or a system switch in frame rate. I know Hitch Time Ratio, but I can't use this scheme for some reasons. How can I distinguish between stuck and frame rate gear shift in CADisplaylink callback? In iOS 15, CADisplayLink.preferredFrameRateRange.preferred always returns 0, while minimum and maximum do change. Can I use these minimum and maximum range values as criteria to distinguish between frame rate switching and stuttering?

Inquiry About Game Center Integration Analytics
Dear Apple Developer Support, I hope this message finds you well. I am a game developer looking to integrate Game Center into our game. Before proceeding, I would like to understand the analytical capabilities available post-integration. Specifically, I am interested in tracking detailed metrics such as: The number of new player downloads driven by Game Center features (e.g., friend challenges, leaderboards, or achievements). Data on user engagement and conversions originating from Game Center interactions. I have explored App Store Connect’s App Analytics but would appreciate clarification on whether Game Center-specific data (e.g., referrals from challenges or social features) is available to measure growth and optimize our strategies. If such data is accessible, could you guide me on how to view it? If not, are there alternative methods or plans to incorporate this in the future? Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response. Best regards, Bella

Unknown CHHapticError.Code (1852797029 == 'nope') in iOS 18+ on iPhone 11 Pro
Hello, I'm getting this error when launching a SpriteKit Swift game in iOS 18+ on an iPhone 11 Pro, whose shell is partly damaged in the back: CHHapticEngine.mm:1206 -[CHHapticEngine doStartWithCompletionHandler:]_block_invoke: ERROR: Player start failed: The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.CoreHaptics error 1852797029.) Haptics do not work on this device, due to the damaged shell, so some error — which obviously occurs when calling start(completionHandler:) — is definitely expected; what is not expected is the main thread sometimes blocking for up to 5 seconds — although the method is not called from the main thread... the error itself is always displayed from some other secondary (system) thread. During this time, the main thread does not access the haptics engine at all; on average, it blocks once every four or five launches. In each launch (blocking or not), the 'nope' error is displayed ~5 seconds after trying to start the engine. After going nuts with all kinds of breakpoints and instrumentation, I'm at a loss as to why the main thread would sometimes block... Ideas, anyone? Thank you, D.

Metal 4: Proper usage of requestResidency() with unique per-frame textures at 120fps
Hello, I have some confusion regarding ResidencySet. Specifically, about the requestResidency() function: how often should we call it? I have a captureOutput(_:didOutput:from:) method that is triggered at 60 or 120 fps. Inside this method, I am calling the following code every frame: computeResidencySet.removeAllAllocations() сomputeResidencySet.addAllocation(TextureA) computeResidencySet.addAllocation(TextureB) computeResidencySet.addAllocation(TextureC) computeResidencySet.commit() computeResidencySet.requestResidency() // Should we call it every frame? Please keep in mind that TextureA, TextureB, and TextureC are unique for each call (new instances are provided on every frame)."

Bug Report - Incorrect trackingAreaIdentifier in visionOS 26 Hover Effect Sample Code
Description: In the official visionOS 26 Hover Effect sample code project , I encountered an issue where the event.trackingAreaIdentifier returned by onSpatialEvent does not reset as expected. Steps to Reproduce: Select an object with trackingAreaID = 6 in the sample app. Look at a blank space (outside any tracking area) and perform a pinch gesture . Expected Behavior: The event.trackingAreaIdentifier should return 0 when interacting with a non-tracking area. Actual Behavior: The event.trackingAreaIdentifier still returns 6, even after restarting the app or killing the process. This persists regardless of where the pinch gesture is performed

Can spatial scene function be used outside of the Photo App?
I'm new here so I don't know what's this function belongs to which topic... Sorry about that! I watched the WWDC stream and I am really interested in this function, I'm wondering if this function could be used in my apps. I looked up the document but I find it only support visionOS(i'm not sure about that, but I saw the demo is base on the visionOS)

CGContext PDF/A intents
let dic : [AnyHashable:Any] = [ kCGPDFXRegistryName: "http://www.color.org" as CFString, kCGPDFXOutputConditionIdentifier: "FOGRA43" as CFString, kCGPDFContextOutputIntent: "GTS_PDFX" as CFString, kCGPDFXOutputIntentSubtype: "GTS_PDFX" as CFString, kCGPDFContextCreateLinearizedPDF: "" as CFString, kCGPDFContextCreatePDFA: "" as CFString, kCGPDFContextAuthor: "Placeholder" as CFString, kCGPDFContextCreator: "Placeholder" as CFString ] Hello, Now I would like to export my PDF's as PDF/A.

How to implement c for vision ?
I want to use reality to create a custom material that can use my own shader and support Mesh instancing (for rendering 3D Gaussian splating), but I found that CustomMaterial does not support VisionOS. Is there any other interface that can achieve my needs? Where can I find examples?

Unknown CHHapticError.Code (1852797029 == 'nope') in iOS 18+ on iPhone 11 Pro

SwiftCharts to add candlestick and OHLC types to their stable?
I didn't find a suggestion box on Swift's website so I'll post it here. SwiftCharts are great but limited. I need more data on a single chart. Candlestick and OHLC type charts would be an excellent addition. Hopefully, influencers from Apple can make that happen. Thanks.
