Hello all,
I'm trying to retrieve geolocation data on the web, but I'm having trouble with the altitude value, which seems to differ from what I get on Android.
When using navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition in Safari, is the altitude value based on mean sea level, or is it ellipsoidal altitude based on the WGS84 ellipsoid?
altitude (WebKit JS): https://developer.apple.com/documentation/webkitjs/coordinates/1631861-altitude
altitude (Core Location): https://developer.apple.com/documentation/corelocation/cllocation/altitude
ellipsoidalAltitude (Core Location): https://developer.apple.com/documentation/corelocation/cllocation/ellipsoidalaltitude
If anyone has any insight into this topic I would greatly appreciate it!

WKWebview of iOS 18 includes Safari browser. When playing videos, some videos show "NotSupportedError: The operation is not supported.", but it is normal on iOS15 devices. The video link is as follows. Even if it is downloaded and referenced locally in HTML, it cannot be played, so it is ruled out that it is a network problem.

Hello there,
back in the old WebKit API there was the WKDownloadDelegate to handle download actions in WebViews. I was wondering how to handle download actions within the new WebKit in SwiftUI. Is there anything to use already or are there workarounds to handle downloads?
Greetings,
Thorben
I want to write an app, that lets users restore all oben windows and tabs from any given point in a TimeMachine backup. The store location seems to have changed. In earlier versions it was possible to restore the open windows and tabs by retrieving
/Users/[UserName]/Library/Containers/com.apple.Safari/Data/Library/Safari/SafariTabs.db
…/SafariTabs.db-shm
…/SafariTabs.db-wal
As of 18.3 this doesn’t work any more, even though these files get updated with the use of Safari
What else would I need to retrieve from a back up disk?
Thank you very much for any hints!

After upgrade to ios 26,
if WKWebView load url which did not contain "#" will always ok.
but load url contain “#” will cancel when start load, then result in white screen
The extension popups don't seem to support the dark mode media query.
The only way the query gets detected is when a color-scheme is added:

We confirmed a problem at Safari on iPadOS 18.2 or after version.
For confirmation, we made a HTML document (see below HTML1) what include ‘method="POST" target="_blank"’ and tested the form however server received GET method and there is no parameter, server did not receive “id” parameter.
We confirmed that fact in captured packet and log file that on the server.
HTML1:
We also made another HTML document (see below HTML2) what include submit button, but the server received GET method as above.
HTML2:
And we also confirmed that it behaves differently depending on the network environment.
If the form targets a name that does not exist (ex. target=” A12345”), behaves differently http or https.
http:
Safari opened new tag, but the server received GET method. Normally, Safari open new tag and the server receive POST method.
https:
Safari opened new tag, and the server received POST method. It is normally.
If the form targets ‘_blank’, the server received GET method on http or https both.
We think Safari change the method POST to GET and delete parameters.
It is not conformed to the HTML specification if is that true.
We confirmed it was not happened at Safari on iPadOS 17.4, and Windows PC (Edge, Chrome).
The method what the server received is POST.
We find same problem in Apple Support Community (see below URL).

Is it a bug in Safari on iPadOS 18.2 or after version?
Do you have plan to fix? Or if fixed the bug, when do you release fixed version.

When the iCloud Passwords Chrome extension is on, there is a 400-500ms lag between clicking on a non-password field and the UI reflecting any changes made by a .on("focus") jQuery listener.
When the extension is disabled, there is no lag.
See below the performance profiles for the same 4 click events.

We have a Safari extension that's been up on the App Store for about 18 months with no apparent issues. This week, however, while working on an update, we uninstalled the production version on our test machines and installed a developer version. When we had some issues, we tried to go back to the production version downloaded from the App Store, but we get an pop saying "Unable to download App." In the log, the most obviously relevant error is 'Operation not permitted'.
This occurs on several machines and different logins on those machines in both norma and safe modes. However, on another machine that never had one installed, we could still install the app from the app store, so I suspect there is something left behind that needs to be removed, but I don't know what.
FWIW, I see the download directory getting created under /Applications, but it is promptly removed when the failure popup appears.
Any suggestions?
Hi Team,
We are trying to upload a file or an image using the component WKWebView. How we can do it? Should we need to use another approach? Do you have any suggestion or any demo project? Thanks in advance!
Safari Extension Error: “Non-persistent background content cannot listen to webRequest events.” after macOS 15.4 / Safari 18.4 Update
We’re seeing the following error in the Safari Extensions tab after updating to macOS 15.4 and Safari 18.4:
“Non-persistent background content cannot listen to webRequest events.”
This error did not appear prior to the update, and we haven’t found any official documentation stating that webRequest API is no longer supported in Safari.
In our extension (Manifest V3), we are using the webRequest.onHeadersReceived callback to intercept response headers and read updated cookies.
While the functionality itself still works as expected. we’re able to access the response headers and this error is now shown in the Extension settings page.
We are not seeing this issue in other browsers (Chrome, Firefox) using the same Manifest V3 setup.
Is there any plan to deprecate webRequest support in Manifest V3 for Safari?
We’d appreciate any clarification or guidance on how to handle this going forward.
My app sends users notifications of important messages in the app. How can I make sure the user receives them?
I want to confirm the specifications and behavior of Safari.
We have a system built on Microsoft Azure that uses Azure AD B2C for authentication.
When we logging in, there is a phone authentication feature where a call is made to the registered phone number.
However, this phone authentication does not work properly only on iPhone's Safari. The specific situation is listed below:
When performing phone authentication on iPhone's Safari, a call is made from Azure AD B2C, and pressing the # button on the Safari screen can be done. But then, it transitions to an error screen.
We tried multiple iPhone devices and multiple iOS versions, but the result was the same.
But when accessing the system on a PC, and performing phone authentication, it works without any errors.
Also when we use browsers other than Safari (for example, Google Chrome and Firefox) on the iPhone, the phone authentication works without any errors, too.
Even with Safari, if the device displaying the login screen and the device making the call are different, phone authentication works without any errors, too.(it fails if they are the same device).
We reached out Microsoft about this issue, and they responded that:
The Azure resource called FrontDoor at the front end of Azure AD B2C supports the HTTP/2 protocol, and HTTP/2 protocol is used in communication with Safari.
In Safari's HTTP/2 communication, when a call is received while the screen is displayed, a reset packet is sent to the web server (in this case, the web server is FrontDoor).
This interrupts the session, causing a session termination error on the Azure AD B2C side, and phone authentication fails.
Therefore, we would like to ask you the following two points:
In HTTP/2 communication, does the Safari browser send a reset packet to the web server when it receives a phone call?
If so, what is the cause of this behavior? And are there any measures to prevent the reset packet from being sent?

Hi. I'm a developer of Tab Finder (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tab-finder/id6741719894)
My problem is that every time i switch from my first window to a second window, the tabs in the validateToolbarItem() are INcorrect on a first call, but when I switch back from the second window to my main window, the tabs are CORRECT even on a first call.
To demonstrate it, i recorded a video: https://youtu.be/RwskzrSJ8u0
To run the same sample extension from the video, you can get the code from this GitHub repo: https://github.com/kopyl/test-tabs-change
Its only purpose is to log URLs of an active page of all tabs.
The SafariExtensionHandler's code of the sample app is very simple:
import SafariServices
func printOpenTabsHost(in window: SFSafariWindow) async {
let tabs = await window.allTabs()
log("Logging tabs for a new window: \(window.hashValue)")
for tab in tabs {
let page = await tab.activePage()
let properties = await page?.properties()
let url = properties?.url
log(url?.absoluteString ?? "No URL")
}
}
class SafariExtensionViewController: SFSafariExtensionViewController {
static let shared = SafariExtensionViewController()
}
class SafariExtensionHandler: SFSafariExtensionHandler {
override func validateToolbarItem(in window: SFSafariWindow, validationHandler: @escaping ((Bool, String) -> Void)) {
Task {
await printOpenTabsHost(in: window)
}
validationHandler(true, "")
}
override func popoverViewController() -> SFSafariExtensionViewController {
return SafariExtensionViewController.shared
}
}
Could you please tell if i'm missing something and how to see the actual tabs inside the overridden validateToolbarItem call of the SafariExtensionHandler (or in any other way, I'm okay with any implementation as long as it works).

Safari Extensions
I've been unable to successfully get a webpage to send a message to a Safari web extension, no matter what I try doing.
I've added the following to my manifest.json file, and it's running manifest v3
{
"externally_connectable": {
"matches": [ "*://mywebsite.com/*", "*://localhost:3000/*" ]
}
}
My web page executes the following code snippet. I've tried this both while running my site locally (on localhost) and pushed to production.
let safariExtensionId = "co.companyname.productname.Extension (ABCD1234)"
browser.runtime.sendMessage(safariExtensionId, { greeting: "hello"},
function(response) {
console.log("Received response from background page");
console.log(response.farewell);
}
);
In the Safari web extension's background.js file, I've added the following onMessageExternal listener:
browser.runtime.onMessageExternal.addListener((message, sender, sendResponse) => {
console.log("Received message from the sender.");
console.log(message.greeting);
sendResponse({ farewell: "Goodbye!" });
});
This is directly copied from the instructions in this WWDC video:
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/safariservices/messaging-between-a-webpage-and-your-safari-web-extension
It's also extremely difficult to debug what's happening since the extensions service working frequently does not appear in the Web Extension Background Content menu
Is there something I'm doing wrong, or a bug I'm not aware of?
Dears,
We are facing some issue in ios 18.4.1. Recently some of our end users who updated their ios devices to 18.4.1 have experienced random 403 errors in runtime. as per our analysis, We identified that these errors are associated with "CSRF token mismatch".
After successful login, the user's CSRF token is causing issue and it was changed in runtime, this causes the cookie mismatch, and the users is getting 403 errors, and the user session is getting invalid suddenly.
let me know if anyone facing the same issue in ios 18.4.1 and let me know Is there any workaround for this issue.
Thanks.
When I use my iPhone to scan the apple pay QR code in chrome, the url is https://applepaydemo.apple.com/apple-pay-js-api, I keep geting the "Service Unavailable" error.
Wonder know if you guys meet this error as well? Btw, the QR code feature needs IOS 18.
When i use adjust redirect:
https://app.adjust.com/xxxxxx?label=xxxxxx&redirect=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.testingmcafeesites.com%2Ftestcat_bu.html
It open 2 links:
https://Fwww.testingmcafeesites.com
then http://www.testingmcafeesites.com/testcat_bu.html
And in my app use redirect link for open a web page. But content in domain url like https://www.testingmcafeesites.com/ not be set. So it talke long time often 1 minute for finish request in first link.
It hapen only in ios 18 i tested in ios 17 and ios 16 it open one link only.
In the Safari browser on mobile devices, the tags in an HTML element are styled with the system's default styles. I want the text inside the tags to be displayed without line breaks. However, in reality, the text wraps according to its length. May I ask if there are any methods to achieve this?
(ps: CSS-related properties such as white-space: nowrap do not work.)
I'm building a macOS Google Chrome extension.
I need to be able to send messages from the Chrome extension to the macOS app
What's the set up flow?
I've heard about native messaging, but I struggle to implement it.
I've heard about XPC, but not sure JS can send messages to a macOS XPC service.
