Unfortunately, I have not found a solution to this. You may try a few different options in the Apple Icon Composer. Which gives you a bit more control over the looks. Though it didn't help me. Otherwise, I believe your options are to either embrace it ('it's not a bug, it's a feature' ;-) ), or change your icon to something with mostly (thin) lines as that seems to be not touched.
