My current theory is that Apple actively hates all of it's users and this is a large social experiment on how many times you can tell people that the thing that's broken isn't actually broken.

Same issue. Not only is it no longer there. Apps that were currently running icon A/B tests have been marked as completed. Luckily, Apple would never make a fundamental change to anything without clear messaging to all developers :)
