FYI an update. I tried updating the fixed iPhone and it worked without any issues. This is after I restored it from my iCloud backup so it had all the same settings and software on it. Maybe we are seeing some odd hardware issues on select iPhones. Mine was from the first batch delivered on the first possible day after pre-ordering it.
