OS X and iOS app with the same name?

Hello,

I can not seem to submit an iOS and Mac OSX app to their respective stores with the same product name.

I get an error on appstoreconnect.com stating that the name I entered is alredy being used by another app in my account.

The response I got back from Apple support was "Based on the research I have found, as long as the app regardless of platform type is within the same localization, the App Name must not be used by another app."

This is unfortunate for a branding point of view.

Anyone know how other apps (for example Affinity Designer) can get the same name in the iOS and Mac App stores, and how I could do the same?

Just as reference, this link does not seem to hold true any more. https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=12072010a

Thanks for your help,

Ben

I believe same name sharing relies on making one app a 'universal purchase'.

Apple says this about that:

"You can choose to create a new app for these platforms using a single app record in App Store Connect or add platforms to your existing app record."

I am also getting this error and I have done other apps with versions on iOS and MacOS that are different records in iTunes Connect.

The problem with a single purchase is the iOS version could be a different price point than Mac. If I charge 49.99 for Mac, iOS users will never pay this for the version they need.
When you already have added an App for macOS you can add the iOS version from within the macOS version. There's a button "add iOS app" on the details page of the macOS app.

Did you ever resolve this issue? If so, how? I also see other apps that have the same exact name on iOS and Mac App Stores, even though they are separate purchases. But when I try to rename my iOS app to match the macOS version, I get the error:

Name did not save because the app name you entered is already being used for another app in your account. If you would like to use the name for this app you will need to submit an update to your other app to change the name, or remove it from App Store Connect.

Thanks.
