Changing to a Business Account Is a Nightmare

I'm extremely disappointed with my experience trying to change my Apple Developer account to a business account in Spain.

I have contacted Apple Support multiple times because they keep asking me for what appears to be the wrong document. Unfortunately, after exchanging five emails, I feel like I'm talking to a wall.

The senior advisor repeatedly sends almost exactly the same copy-and-paste response, asking for a “Certificación de denominación social.” This is particularly frustrating because, in Spain, this document is used during the company formation process to certify or reserve a company name. It is not the standard document used to prove that an existing company is currently registered and active.

What makes this request even more absurd is that obtaining a Certificación de denominación social involves proposing multiple possible company names for registration. My company already exists and already has a legally registered name. It makes absolutely no sense to start proposing several new or random company names now simply to obtain a certificate for an Apple verification request.

For an existing Spanish company, documents such as a Certificación de vigencia y cargos or a Nota Simple are the relevant documents used to verify the company's existence, current status, representatives, and official registration information.

What is most frustrating is that Apple appears to be translating the name of a US document into Spanish without understanding which equivalent document is actually required under the Spanish company registration system.

How is it possible that a company the size of Apple does not have clear guidance on the appropriate documentation for companies in Spain?

After five emails, I still don't know exactly what document Apple actually needs. The responses are repetitive and don't address the explanation I have provided about the Spanish corporate documents.

I would also like to know how long this process normally takes. Apple does not seem to provide any clear timeframe for converting an individual developer membership to an organization membership. Has anyone gone through this process recently, especially in Spain or another European country?

How many days or weeks did it take from submitting the request until the account was successfully converted?

At this point, I am worried that this could continue indefinitely because I seem unable to get a clear answer about which document Apple actually requires.

Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated because this process has become incredibly frustrating.

I think that's the problem. Why would an existing company have an individual account? Converting account types is something that someone does when they incorporate.

I think Apple's doing you a favour here. Assuming they accepted that document you're offering, how long do you think the transfer would take? Do you really want to keep your company in developer limbo for that long?

It sounds like you should create a new company account. If you're able to stay in the automated flow, you might be able to get that done in a few weeks to a few months.

The only downside would be if you had existing apps that you want to transfer. They might not be transferable in the first place. And if they are, that would certainly take some time too. Unfortunately, that's the cost of using an individual account for a company in the first place.

Developer Support is currently reviewing your case that you have opened, they will get back to you soon.

I got answer from senior advisor and I was able to send the documentation she asked for. Now I'm waiting to proceed the next steps...

Hello,

It appears that someone has followed up with you regarding your request to migrate your individual membership to that of a company. Please check your email.

Note: We aren't able to provide support for account specific issues on the developer forums

Best regards, Developer Support
