How to debug Quick Look Preview Extension
I'm facing the same problem as addressed in this discussion: After switching from legacy QLGenerators to Preview extensions on macOS I cannot debug the extensions' code in Xcode, anymore: I launch the app with the embedded appex from Xcode in debug mode. When trying to attach to the appex process the following error is reported: Code: 6 Failure Reason: Ensure “AppName Preview” is not already running, and matthias has permission to debug it. User Info: {... } System Information macOS Version 15.4.1 (Build 24E263) Xcode 16.3 (23785) (Build 16E140) Timestamp: 2025-05-12T14:07:14+02:00 I'm using a standard user account (no admin) and might miss some obvious steps. Can someone detail the steps to debug a Preview (or Thumbnail) extension with Xcode 16? For legacy Quick Look plugins I was using "qlmanage", but that's not working on extensions. All the best, Matthias P.S.: Pardon me re-posting my reply as a separate thread, to increase visibility, but I'm quite desperate and couldn't find any solution on the web...

Finder shows warning "Apple could not verify file is free of malware" when setting my app as "Always open with"
A user of my AppKit, document-based app brought to my attention that when setting it as the default app to open a certain file with extension .md (by choosing in the Finder "File > Open With > Other", then selecting my app and enabling "Always open with"), trying to open it with a double-click displays the warning "Apple could not verify [file] is free of malware that may harm your mac or compromise your privacy". This is what happens for me: When keeping the default app for a .md file (Xcode in my case), the file opens just fine. When choosing my app in the "File > Open With" menu, the file opens just fine in my app. But when setting my app as the default app (see above), the warning is displayed. From that moment on, choosing my app in the "File > Open With" menu doesn't work anymore. Selecting Xcode doesn't work either. Only setting Xcode again as the default app allows me to open it in Xcode, but my app still isn't allowed to open it. Is this a macOS issue, or can I do anything in my app to prevent it? Where should I start looking for the issue in my code?

Speech recognition
Hello, I’ve followed all the steps you recommended and confirmed that the entitlement is correctly added in Xcode, but the provisioning profile still fails. I believe the issue is that my App ID com.echo.eyes.app is missing the com.apple.developer.speech-recognition entitlement on Apple’s end. Could you please manually add this entitlement to my App ID, or guide me on how to get it attached? I’ve already added it locally and confirmed the error in Xcode is due to it not being in the provisioning profile. .

DeviceActivityReport disappears when app comes back from background
Hello, I am trying to display basic screen time data on my main screen. On the initial load of the screen, the DeviceActivityReport renders correctly and visible, but after being in the background and coming back to the app, the whole view is just blank. I don't think I'm doing anything special. Is this a known bug? @main struct MyActivityReportExtension: DeviceActivityReportExtension { var body: some DeviceActivityReportScene { // Create a report for each DeviceActivityReport.Context that your app supports. Can FamilyControls ApplicationToken or CategoryToken expire? If yes, how to detect and handle it?
How to programmatically check if ApplicationToken or ActivityCategoryToken is expired in FamilyActivityPicker? I'm building a Screen Time-based parental control app using FamilyControls and ManagedSettings. We use FamilyActivityPicker to allow the user to select apps and categories to restrict, and we apply the shield using: store.shield.applications = .specific(selection.applicationTokens) store.shield.applicationCategories = .specific(selection.categoryTokens) Sometimes, we observe that the shield silently fails to apply — no error is thrown, but the restrictions aren't enforced. I suspect this may be due to expired or invalid tokens, possibly if the app was removed or the selection became stale. My Questions: Can ApplicationToken or ActivityCategoryToken expire or become invalid over time? If yes, is there a supported or recommended way to detect whether a token is still valid before applying it to the shield? Is comparing the current shield values (store.shield.applications and store.shield.applicationCategories) after applying them a reliable validation method? What's the best practice to handle expired tokens (e.g. re-prompt the FamilyActivityPicker, or show a fallback)? What Is the Expiration Duration of Tokens from FamilyActivityPicker? Any guidance or insight from the Screen Time/FamilyControls team would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

FamilyActivityPicker Crashing / Freezing
Our users report frequent crashes with the FamilyActivityPicker. Since this is a screen controlled by Apple, I'm assuming that there's nothing I can do to prevent these crashes. I'm wondering, though, if there's any way to gracefully handle these crashes? When this happens, the following is printed to the console: [com.apple.FamilyControls.ActivityPickerExtension(1121)] Connection to plugin invalidated while in use. Does anyone know how to handle/catch this error?

Apps remain blocked after being unselected
Hi everyone, We're using the react-native-device-activity package to implement app blocking via Apple's Screen Time API. The blocking functionality works well: when the user selects apps and taps "Done," those apps get blocked as expected. However, we're facing an issue with unblocking apps that the user later unselects. Even after the user unchecks some apps and taps "Done" again, those previously selected (now unselected) apps remain blocked and still show the shield.

Associated domain not recognised
I have a public and accessible .well-known/apple-app-site-association file for both my domain.com and subdomain.domain.com with "paths": ["*"] . Both example.com and blog.example.com are added in Associated domains and any link that contains domain.com and domain.com/path normally deep links into my app. I used to have an *.example.com that successfully deep linked all my subdomains into my app but now I had to remove it as some subdomains will need to link to other apps, but some should still link to the same app. I removed * but left blog.example.com as that specific subdomain still needs to deep link into my app. But now blog.example.com is not even being recognized by my app and any link starting with blog.example.com just opens in safari. What am I missing? Why is this happening ?

Long running data BLE data syncing in the background
I am working on a Flutter application which is use solely to collect data from a bluetooth low energy (BLE) peripheral and then upload the data to our cloud. The application runs in the background 99% of the time after the initial login and BLE pairing which is causing us some issues. After the Application is backgrounded it would work for a day to 2 days and then stop working. (What I mean with working is to download data from the BLE peripheral and then upload the data to our cloud). Once the data syncing has stopped it would take up to 12 hours until data starts flowing again. I have read in a couple of places that iOS implements some sort of "budget/heuristics" when the application is running in the background to keep track of the application and when this "budget" is used up iOS will stop servicing the application until iOS decides that the application can run in the background again. My question, is it possible via a enablement or some other mechanism to prevent iOS from blocking our application from running in the background to enable 24/7 periodic data uploads every 30 minutes. We have implemented the following so far; The data sync process is triggered from the BLE peripheral using a notification. This notification is sent every 30 minutes. Each sync duration is currently 24 seconds on average, we are working on reducing this to below 10 seconds. We implemented State Restoration to assist iOS in starting the application more efficiently. We are considering using Silent Push Notifications from the Cloud to wake up the application when data hasn't synced in 6 hours. Any assistance would be high appreciated.

Locale.Script seems to be returning a value even though the language has no script
We just dropped support for iOS 16 in our app and migrated to the new properties on Locale to extract the language code, region, and script. However, after doing this we are seeing an issue where the script property is returning a value when the language has no script. Here is the initializer that we are using to populate the values. The identifier is coming from the preferredLanguages property that is found on Locale. init?(identifier: String) { let locale = Locale(identifier: identifier) guard let languageCode = locale.language.languageCode?.identifier else { return nil } language = languageCode region = locale.region?.identifier script = locale.language.script?.identifier } Whenever I inspect locale.language I see all of the correct values. However, when I inspect locale.language.script directly it is always returning Latn as the value. If I inspect the deprecated locale.scriptCode property it will return nil as expected. Here is an example from the debugger for en-AU. I also see the same for other languages such as en-AE, pt-BR. Since the language components show the script as nil, then I would expect locale.language.script?.identifier to also return nil.

The enterprise app crashes.
I created a new project, packaged it with my own enterprise certificate, installed and used it. There were no problems on most devices. However, on some devices with system versions of 18.3 and 18.4, the app crashes when opened after trusting the certificate. It seems that there is something wrong with the certificate, but I have confirmed that the certificate is fine. May I ask what the cause of this issue is?

iOS magnetometer data processing
Hello, I’m developing an app to detect movement past a strong magnet, targeting both Android and iOS. On Android, I’m using the Sensor API, which provides calibrated readings with temperature compensation, factory (or online) soft-iron calibration, and online hard-iron calibration. The equivalent on iOS appears to be the CMCalibratedMagneticField data from the CoreMotion framework. However, I’m encountering an issue with the iOS implementation. The magnetometer data on iOS behaves erratically compared to Android. While Android produces perfectly symmetric peaks, iOS shows visual peaks that report double the magnetic field strength. Additionally, there’s a "pendulum" effect: the field strength rises, drops rapidly, rises again to form a "double peak" structure, and takes a while to return to the local Earth magnetic field average. The peaks on iOS are also asymmetric. I’m wondering if this could be due to sensor fusion algorithms applied by iOS, which might affect the CMCalibratedMagneticField data. Are there other potential reasons for this behavior? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

[Proposal] Sense & Store – Intelligent App Suggestions from Safari (with On-Device AI)
Hello everyone, I’d like to propose Sense & Store — a seamless integration between Safari and the App Store, powered by on-device AI, designed to understand what users are reading, searching, or selecting in Safari, and suggest relevant apps that match their current context or intention. 🔍 Key Idea: “Sense” the user’s need through intelligent analysis of web content, then “Store” — offer the most relevant app, either already installed or available in the App Store. 🌟 Core Features: • AI-powered context detection directly inside Safari • Real-time app suggestions based on user intent • Smart overlays when selecting text or data (e.g., phone numbers, emails, tools) • Privacy-first: All AI runs on-device (Apple Neural Engine) • Instant App Launch or Installation via StoreKit ✅ Examples: • Reading an article on productivity? → Suggests Notion or Things. • Looking up meditation tips? → Recommends Calm or Headspace. • Selecting a phone number? → Offers CRM or spam blocker apps. • Exploring code samples? → Suggests Pythonista or developer tools. 🔒 Privacy & Performance: • 100% on-device intelligence (no data sent to servers) • Follows Apple’s privacy framework • Works with SafariKit + StoreKit + CoreML ⸻ I’m happy to provide a full prototype roadmap and technical architecture. Feedback and collaboration are welcome! Would love to hear your thoughts — especially from developers who build for Safari, App Clips, or work with CoreML. Thanks! Access resource in swift package from xcframework
I have an iOS app that includes a local Swift package. This Swift package contains some .plist files added as resources. The package also depends on an XCFramework. I want to read these .plist files from within the XCFramework. What I’d like to know is: Is this a common or recommended approach—having resources in a Swift package and accessing them from an XCFramework? Previously, I had the .plist files added directly to the main app target, and accessing them from the XCFramework felt straightforward. With the new setup, I’m trying to determine whether this method (placing resources in a Swift package and accessing them from an XCFramework) is considered good practice. For context: I am currently able to read the .plist files from the XCFramework by passing Bundle.module through one of the APIs exposed by the XCFramework.

WeatherKit failing on JWT Error
My app AirCompare has been in the app store and successfully using WeatherKit to fetch weather since it became available. Now some (not all) users are encountering the following errors: Failed to generate jwt token for: com.apple.weatherkit.authservice with error: Error Domain=WeatherDaemon.WDSJWTAuthenticatorServiceListener.Errors Code=2 "(null)" Encountered an error when fetching weather data subset; location=<+42.40865786,-88.96911526> +/- 0.00m (speed -1.00 mps / course -1.00) @ 6/23/25, 2:56:47 PM Central Daylight Time, error=WeatherDaemon.WDSJWTAuthenticatorServiceListener.Errors 2 Error Domain=WeatherDaemon.WDSJWTAuthenticatorServiceListener.Errors Code=2 "(null)" Others are reporting this same problem here in the forums. We need a solution!

Thanks! Jose Luiz Horta Barbosa Maurity Cruz - Apple lover...
