Action Required: Apple Push Notification Service Server Certificate Update
Hello Everyone, We have some doubts regarding the apple notification alert update received in Oct 2024 for APNS server certificate update. Does this change is already live for sandbox environment? As we have checked on sandbox environment without changing any certificate its working and we are able to get push notification. Does that means our system does not need any change for production as well? If required where we should add https://www.sectigo.com/knowledge-base/detail/Sectigo-Intermediate-Certificates/kA01N000000rfBO. This certificate. For FYI we are using python library called django-push-notifications which internally call to the APNS server for push notifications.

Clarification on APNs MDM Push Certificate per-customer requirement for MSP/multi-tenant MDM
Hello Apple Developer Community, We’re building an MDM product (SaaS, multi-tenant). I’d like clarification on the APNs MDM push certificate usage model for service providers (MSPs). Question: Is it acceptable for an MDM vendor to use a single APNs MDM push certificate owned by the vendor to manage devices for multiple, independent customer organizations? Or is it required/recommended that each customer (company) must obtain and use its own APNs MDM push certificate (issued under the customer’s Apple ID) for their tenant? Why we’re asking: We understand that many guides show the process where each customer logs into the Apple Push Certificates Portal with their own Apple ID, uploads a CSR provided by the MDM, and then renews yearly. Practically, for a small team and early-stage deployments, using one vendor-owned certificate across multiple tenants would be simpler. We want to ensure we’re not violating any policy, terms, or technical requirements (e.g., certificate ownership, topic binding, device token isolation, audit/compliance expectations). What we need from Apple (or authoritative sources): An official Apple document or policy that clearly states whether per-customer certificates are mandatory vs strongly recommended for MSP/multi-tenant MDMs. If per-customer is mandatory, please point to the relevant clause or section. If a vendor uses a single certificate for multiple organizations, what risks or consequences should we expect (e.g., compliance issues, supportability, potential program violations, off-boarding problems, etc.)? Context: We’re sending only MDM wake notifications (standard MDM flow). We understand certificates expire yearly and must be renewed with the same Apple ID to avoid device re-enrollment. We want to follow Apple’s best practices while keeping early operations manageable. Any guidance, links to official documentation, or clarification from Apple engineers/moderators would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Enabling voip in react native
Currently working on a dating app which needs voip for audio and video calls for ios. the voip notifications only comes to the app in active and inactive mode but doesnt wake the device in background or terminated mode. After debugging i noticed that com.apple.developer.voip entitlement wasnt included which i later added, trying to create a build i get the eas error that the entitlement wasnt added to the identifier capabilities. My issue now is that i can't seem to find the voip capability to check in the identifiers capabilities list for the bundle id.d

Notification coordination between iOS and watchOS is not working properly
Notification coordination between iOS and watchOS is not working properly watchOS and iOS try to coordinate between phone and watch notifications. The concept here is that if there is a main app and a companion app, they could both be sending a notification, then the notification would alert on both, which is a deviation from how notification mirroring is handled if there is an iOS app but no watch app. The watch waits for the iOS notification to fire so they can determine if this is the same notification that needs to be deduped, displayed on one device but not the other, or separate notifications to be displayed both. If there is no notification on the phone, the watch will timeout after 13 seconds and alert anyway. If you have an iOS companion app, the best solution to this is to send the same notification on both devices simultaneously, and ensuring the UNNotificationRequest.identifier matches on both notifications. This will let the systems determine how to handle the notification correctly and quickly, and the notification will alert right away. https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/765669 According to the above article, "when a notification arrives on watchOS alone first, it coordinates with iOS," but in reality, it doesn't work properly. Detailed process of this phenomenon watchOS receives a notification. On watchOS, the notification is not immediately shown to the user. iOS receives a notification with the same UNNotificationRequest.identifier as in (1). The notification in (3) does not appear on either iOS or watchOS. However, the notification from (3) does appear in iOS Notification Center. Thirteen seconds after watchOS received the notification, the notification from (1) is shown to the user on watchOS. In the end, the iOS and watchOS notifications are not consolidated and each remains in its respective notification center. Up to (3) there are no issues. Starting with (4), both iOS and watchOS exhibit a lot of odd behavior. This phenomenon occurs with both local notifications and push notifications. When iOS receives the notification first, there is no problem. The notification for watch received later is processed appropriately, and the watchOS notification is not additionally displayed to the user. Expected proper process Same as above. Same as above. Same as above. The notification in (1) is integrated into the notification in (3). The notification in (3) is alerted to the user immediately. 2 sample projects to reproduce Only the main code is attached. Sample project1: local notifications Swift code for local notification app (iOS, watchOS) - App.swift.txt Sample project2: push notifications This sample project is implemented using Firebase Functions and Firebase Cloud Messaging. Swift code push notification app (iOS, watchOS) - App.swift.txt Server side JavaScript code for FirebaseFunction - index.js.txt Tested devices and OS This phenomenon occurred in both of the following patterns. Pattern 1 Xcode 26.0 iPhone 16 (iOS 26.0) Apple Watch series 10 (watchOS 26.0) Pattern 2 Xcode 16.4 iPhone 11 (iOS 18.6) Apple Watch SE 2nd gen (watchOS 11.6) Question Is this phenomenon a bug? Or is my understanding or implementation incorrect? Feedback Assistant number FB20339772

Critical Alerts Entitlement
Hi Team, We’re following up on our request for the Critical Alert entitlement for our app, which we plan to use to notify users about critical states of their devices. It’s been almost 4 weeks since we submitted the request, and we wanted to check on the typical review timeline so we can plan our upcoming work accordingly. If there’s anything we can provide or clarify to help complete the review or make the process easier, we’d be happy to assist. or the right forum to reach out to.

Unable to install an app extension when running it for debugging
I've got an app with several app extensions (call extension, action extension, notification service extension, message filtering extension, notification content extension). If I need to interactively debug these then I can select the scheme and run the extension within Xcode for all of them except for the notification content extension, with that I get an error dialog summary saying: Failed to install the app on the device / The provided item to be installed is not of a type that CoreDevice recognizes. Which when expanded has the blumpf posted below. Why can I not run the notification content extension, when I can run any other type of app extension? Failed to install the app on the device. Question About APNs Server Certificate Update and Firebase Cloud Messaging
Hi, Regarding the announcement about the Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) Server Certificate Update, I wanted to clarify whether it will impact my app’s push notification setup. I use Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to send push notifications to iOS devices, and in my Firebase project settings, I have configured an APNs Authentication Key under the Apple app configuration tab (Firebase Console > Project Settings > Cloud Messaging > iOS app configuration). The authentication key I am using was generated from Apple Developer > Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles > Keys. Since I am using this authentication method instead of APNs certificates, are there any changes I need to be aware of due to the APNs server certificate update, and do I need to update anything in my current configuration to ensure push notifications continue to work? Thanks in advance!

Can I enable push notifications in an iOS app built from a web app URL using PWA Builder?
Hi all, I have a React web app that we use as a Progressive Web App (PWA). We currently: Use PWA Builder to package it for Android and iOS Host the app on a secure HTTPS URL Use Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) for push notifications (working on Android) However, on iOS, we are unable to get push notifications to work. I understand that PWAs on iOS have limited push support (Safari only, and not through WebView). So I explored using Capacitor, but: Capacitor can load a server.url pointing to our hosted app (great for reuse), but push notifications don’t work If we build the web app locally (npm run build) and embed it in the native iOS shell via Capacitor, push works We would prefer not to fully merge our authentication and main app UIs if avoidable Questions: Is there any approved way to enable push notifications in an iOS .ipa built from a hosted web app (URL) using PWA Builder? If not, is embedding the web assets locally the only Apple-approved way to get push support? Are there any best practices or native plugin recommendations (e.g., APNs or FCM) for handling push notifications in iOS app? Thanks in advance for any guidance. 🙏 Let me know if more technical details would help.

Notification easy control
Dear Apple Team, I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share a playful and innovative idea that could enhance the iPhone experience—particularly when viewing content in full-screen mode through apps like Apple TV or YouTube. Feature Concept: Hands-Free Dismissal of Notifications When the iPhone is in landscape mode, incoming notifications can interrupt the viewing experience. While Focus Mode and swipe gestures help, I thought of a more intuitive and hands-free interaction: using a light puff of air directed toward the screen to dismiss a notification. This interaction could use the microphone or other onboard sensors to detect a brief burst of air, providing a fun and natural way to maintain immersion without touching the device. If this isn’t feasible with current hardware, here are a few alternative concepts that align with the same goal: Blink to Dismiss: Using Face ID sensors to detect a quick blink as a hands-free gesture. Shake to Dismiss: A gentle shake gesture when holding the iPhone in one hand. Gaze-Based Dismissal: Notifications automatically disappear after a brief moment of eye contact. These ideas could offer both accessibility benefits and a touch of delight—making the iPhone feel even more magical and responsive. Thank you for your time and for considering this suggestion! Warm regards, Badhan Baidya

Expected behavior for a Notification Service Extension with notification filtering when requestAuthorization has not been requested
If there is a Notification Service Extension which has the com.apple.developer.usernotifications.filtering entitlement, then does/how having that entitlement affect the preconditions for the NSE to be delivered a push? Specifically, if the app has not prompted for requestAuthorization() is it expected that the push will be delivered to the NSE or not? Thank you

APNs Feedback Service Domain Unavailable
The APNs Feedback Service domain “feedback.push.apple.com” was deprecated on March 31, 2021, and became unavailable after August 2025 due to domain name resolution failures. Will this feedback service become available again in the future? Also, is it possible to use the APNs Feedback Service with a domain different from “feedback.push.apple.com”?
