Struggling creating a custom SF Symbol: The provided variants are not interpolatable
Hi, I am trying to create a custom SF Symbol from an SVG file created with Affinity Designer but, even though my SVG file look perfect in Firefox for example compared to the exported custom.circle.svg file (as recommended in Apple's documentation), I fail to get rid of this error: "The provided variants are not interpolatable" My creation process using Affinity Designer is: Export as SVG file Duplicate the custom.circle.svg file exported from the SF Symbols app In the new file, replace the 3 "path" tags in the "g" sections "id="Black-S", "Regular-S", "Ultralight-S" with the paths from the SVG file exported from Affinity designer Set the 3 transform matrices to "matrix(1 0 0 1 0 0)" for the 3 variants to be generated at the correct location. Verify in an SVG viewer that the file looks correct. Import the file via Drag&Drop into the SF Symbols app. What is wrong with my file? Thank you in advance for any help, Marc mySymbol.svg.txt

How can a student start learning Apple’s approach to design?
Hello everyone, I'm 14 and absolutely enthusiastic about Apple — not only the products themselves, but the design nuance, the sense that everything has been well thought-out, and even stuff like Fitness+ and the Tips app. I love how much attention Apple pays to making every aspect of the experience feel deliberate and cohesive. My dream is to eventually become an Apple employee, specifically in design (maybe even retail for the beginnin). I know that I am young right now, but I would like to start learning as soon as possible. To you all who have experience with design or anything else, what are a few things or habits one my age should focus on learning to strengthen in the right direction? to maybe reach this dream Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated. Poor Rendering of Liquid Glass Icon on Device
Hey there, I redesigned my apps icons for Liquid Glass in the icon composer app. I have to say it's been a pleasure to use and my icons look stunning when rendered in the icon composer app, whatever rendering mode and context I've been testing. But once in a developer release on my device (iOS 26 beta 3), the rendering is very disappointing. They look blurry, very far from what icon composer is showing. I would like to know whether I have a design issue, or if the current state of the beta release is known to not render icon properly. I'm kind of panicking :)

Liquid Glass icons appear differently in Dock
I just played around on macOS with the new icons created by Icon Composer, and I noticed that the Dock displays programmatically set icons differently. Try this: Make sure you have the Mail app in your Dock. Set the icon appearance to "Tinted/Light" and set a dark (black) background for the Desktop. Run this code: let image = NSWorkspace.shared.icon(forFile: "/System/Applications/Mail.app") if image.isValid { NSApp.applicationIconImage = image } You'll get something like this: When the icon appearance is set to "Default" or "Dark," everything works as expected, and the "Clear/Dark" and "Tinted/Dark" modes seem to work as well. It seems like the Dock uses a special blend mode depending on the selected background, but this does not seem to be the case if the icon is set programmatically. I filed feedback FB20291186.

What is the best way to design a UITabBarController (or Sidebar) combined with a UISplitViewController on iPadOS 18 and later, while avoiding memory management issues?
I'm developing an iPadOS 18+ application that uses a UITabBarController, styled as a sidebar, to serve as the primary navigation interface. This setup includes 20 different tabs, each representing a distinct section of the app. For the user experience, each tab needs to present a master-detail interface, implemented using a UISplitViewController. The goal is to allow users to navigate between tabs via the sidebar, and within each tab, access related content through the split view's list-detail pattern. The Problem: Currently, my implementation involves instantiating a separate UISplitViewController for each tab, resulting in 20 unique split view instances embedded inside the UITabBarController. While this works functionally, it leads to significant memory usage, especially after the user opens each tab at least once. The accumulation of all these instantiated view controllers in memory eventually causes performance degradation or even memory warnings/crashes on lower-end iPads. The Question: What is the best approach to implement this type of architecture without running into memory management issues? Specifically: Is there a way to reuse or lazily load the UISplitViewController instances only when needed? Can we unload or release split view controllers that haven't been used for a while to reduce memory pressure? Would a custom container controller be more appropriate than using UITabBarController in this case? Are there iPadOS 18+ best practices or newer APIs that support this kind of complex multi-tab, multi-split-view structure efficiently? Any advice on how to optimize memory usage while preserving the sidebar navigation and split view layout would be highly appreciated.

Macos26 Tahoé is Hell with "Relocated Items"
I just discover that feature (a folder lost in the middle of others desktop folder ). so with each updates: -/usr/local is emptied -somes apps in the Application folder, are deleted, even paid apps .. -i lost : Docker, python 3.13, latexlive2025, Apache NetBeans, java install, Affinity Publisher 2, all my 3D slicers ... github desktop, Epic Games Launcher, ........ 296go of apps Franckly : c'est la merde !!! I am using a MacBook Pro 16" 2019 any way to stop this behavior ? thank you !!!

In the clock app when making an alarm for myself to wake up, I found this bug where If you swipe left On an alarm without deleting it and then Swipe right it does a goofy visual glitch where it teleports to the top of your screen.

Avoid using a segmented control in a toolbar
Hi, in the Human Interface Guidelines, Apple writes: Avoid using a segmented control in a toolbar. Toolbar items act on the current screen — they don’t let people switch contexts like segmented controls do. Along with this image: Source I'm confused by this example. The screenshot seems to be showing a segmented control in a toolbar. Is this saying that the Phone app's All/Missed toggle is different from a segmented control? Under iOS 26 it seems to take a different style compared to a regular segmented control. If so, which component is used to create this filter? Could you please clarify the guidelines? Thank you.

Effect liquid glass on app icon
Why my app icon doesn't have effect liquid glass on ios26. My team dev still not upgrade to xcode26, so I have to export icon for them. And I don't see the effect like stroke of the detail.

Panel Toggle Glitch
Development environment: Simulator: iOS 26 beta 3 iPhone 16 (for testing) Simulator 2: iPadOS 26 beta 3 iPad Air 13 inch (M3) (for testing) Connected Device: iPadOS 26 beta 3 iPad Pro 11 inch (M4) (for testing) Dev Device: macOS Tahoe 26 beta 3 Macbook Air When using the NavigationSplitView element, the sidebar has a built-in panel toggle button. However, when I click the toggle button to toggle the sidebar section in SwiftUI 26 on both simulator 2 and the connected device, it has a slight animation glitch before going back to normal. What's going on? How to get a truly clear glass effect for a circle
I'm using .glassEffect(.clear) on a transparent circle over a gradient background. While it's closer to clear than the plain glass effect, it't not really clear, like clear glass. Here is the code. iOS 26 - TabView "Split" Question
Hello, I am currently trying all of the new features in iOS 26, including some of the new API's. However, there's one question I am not sure of. In the Build a SwiftUI app with the new design video, there is one section where they show off the Apple Music TabView with one section containing the tabs on the left and the search tab on the right. The scroll down feature I was able to implement. The tabs being split, I have no idea how to do that. How can I do that in SwiftUI?

Resize Window Form After Loading
I am trying to resize a Window Form after it loads and have done quite a bit of searching for code to do it. Here is one code snippet that works to size the form during the design phase. self.view.window?.contentMinSize = CGSize(width: 1100, height: 310) I have tried code like below to increase the window size after the Form loads if let myWindow = self.view.window ?? NSApplication.shared.mainWindow { // Increase window size and position after it loads let newRect = NSRect(x: 100, y: 100, width: 1400, height: 900) } It seems that this code not only changes the Form size after loading, but also changes the size of the Form in Main.swift, which is something I don't want. I read elsewhere that I had to disable constraints to resize the Form, so I tried code below. let tableView = NSTableView() tableView.translatesAutoresizingMaskIntoConstraints = false let newRect = NSRect(x: 100, y: 0, width: 1100, height: 600) myWindow?.setFrame(newRect, display: true) That code did not seem to do anything as well. Also, the Form displays in the lower left of the screen. Note that main reason I want to resize the Form after loading is to keep it smaller during design development. The same goes for the NSTableView, which I have not gotten to yet.

Bug on Settings Search Menu - Showing Always On Display for iPhone 14 Plus
We all know that the feature “Always On Display” is available only on pro models. I checked in iPhone 14 Plus, that feature became visible in “Search” menu under “Settings”. If a user types “Displa”, then the search results show “Always On Display” as a result. When I click on that, it navigates inside “Display and Brightness” and we found no toggle for “Always On Display”. So, displaying the same on search result is a big bug which needs immediate attention from Apple. Users are getting confused whether iPhone 14 plus has that feature or not.. **Possible reason: ** I believe Apple releases iPhone OS versions in a single release each time and must be applying any kind of feature flagging to enable / disable a feature in a version or for a model. The feature flagging might not be working with Settings menu’s Search service or the code is not properly modular.

Can't make buttons rectangular!
Ever since Xcode Version 26.0.1 I cannot for the life of me make my buttons rectangular. They are all capsule (or oval) shaped. My interface was designed for square buttons but no matter what I do the issue stays the same. iOS 26 Liquid Glass - Without any Blur - Possible?

NSStatusItem Visibility Issue in AU Audio Plugin - Logic Pro vs Other Hosts
Target: MacOS 11.1 and above C++, Juce 8, XCode 16.2 Testing: Sonoma 14.5 Logic Pro (latest version), Reaper 7.34, Pro Tools 2023.12 and 2025.6 I'm developing an audio plugin that creates an NSStatusItem ("menu bar status icon" or MBSI for short) to provide visual feedback for one of the components. I've encountered a Logic Pro-specific behavior that I'd like to fix. I'm building for Mac-only, Intel and Silicon, and for AU/VST3/AAX. Summary: The NSStatusItem for the MBSI is created successfully and functions properly in some hosts (Reaper (AU and VST3), Pro Tools (AAX)) but isn't visible in Logic Pro, despite identical API behavior. Details: NSStatusItem Creation: implementation using [[NSStatusBar systemStatusBar] statusItemWithLength:NSSquareStatusItemLength] All API calls report success in both working (Reaper) and non-working (Logic Pro) hosts. Logging shows Logic Pro and Reaper create the NSStatusItem with the same properties: Window frame: {{0, -36}, {38, 36}} (both hosts) statusItem.visible: YES (both hosts) Button exists and responds to state changes (both hosts) Y coordinate is -36 pixels (above visible screen, both hosts) In Reaper, I can see the MBSI but in Logic Pro I can't. Note: the MBSI has no functionality beyond visual feedback. It's not clickable nor does it create a corresponding menu. Questions: Are there known differences in how Logic Pro's AU hosting service handles system UI elements compared to other hosts? And if so, is there guidance on AU plugins accessing system UI elements like the menu bar? Correct way to handle 2 to 3 column switch
I'm using a NavigationSplitView on macOS which needs to show 2 or 3 columns depending on the selection of the sidebar. Column 1 has a list of main activities. Some of these just have some data to show and some have a sublist. Currently, when an item that has no sublist is selected, I set the 2nd column (content:) to: Spacer() .navigationSplitViewColumnWidth(0) This works, although it started hitting bugs requiring a workaround on macOS 26, which got me wondering, what is the correct approach here? NavigationSplitViewVisibility.doubleColumn is not the solution, as this hides column 1, not column 2.

iOS 26 Liquid Glass - Without any Blur - Possible?
let glassView = UIVisualEffectView(effect: UIGlassEffect(style: .clear)) glassView.frame = CGRect(x: 100, y: 200, width: 200, height: 400) self.view.addSubview(glassView) Though UIGlassEffect has two variants: .regular and .clear, even the clear one has some blur on the background. Is there a way to do get absolute no blur? Edges still have the glass effect. Apple does this in two places: Camera app: Text magnifier:

NSStatusItem Visibility Issue in AU Audio Plugin - Logic Pro vs Other Hosts
Target: MacOS 11.1 and above C++, Juce 8, XCode 16.2 Testing: Sonoma 14.5 Logic Pro (latest version), Reaper 7.34, Pro Tools 2023.12 and 2025.6 I'm developing an audio plugin that creates an NSStatusItem ("menu bar status icon" or MBSI for short) to provide visual feedback for one of the components. I've encountered a Logic Pro-specific behavior that I'd like to fix. I'm building for Mac-only, Intel and Silicon, and for AU/VST3/AAX. Summary: The NSStatusItem for the MBSI is created successfully and functions properly in some hosts (Reaper (AU and VST3), Pro Tools (AAX)) but isn't visible in Logic Pro, despite identical API behavior. Details: NSStatusItem Creation: implementation using [[NSStatusBar systemStatusBar] statusItemWithLength:NSSquareStatusItemLength] All API calls report success in both working (Reaper) and non-working (Logic Pro) hosts. Logging shows Logic Pro and Reaper create the NSStatusItem with the same properties: Window frame: {{0, -36}, {38, 36}} (both hosts) statusItem.visible: YES (both hosts) Button exists and responds to state changes (both hosts) Y coordinate is -36 pixels (above visible screen, both hosts) In Reaper, I can see the MBSI but in Logic Pro I can't. Note: the MBSI has no functionality beyond visual feedback. It's not clickable nor does it create a corresponding menu. Questions: Are there known differences in how Logic Pro's AU hosting service handles system UI elements compared to other hosts? And if so, is there guidance on AU plugins accessing system UI elements like the menu bar? Correct way to handle 2 to 3 column switch
I'm using a NavigationSplitView on macOS which needs to show 2 or 3 columns depending on the selection of the sidebar. Column 1 has a list of main activities. Some of these just have some data to show and some have a sublist. Currently, when an item that has no sublist is selected, I set the 2nd column (content:) to: Spacer() .navigationSplitViewColumnWidth(0) This works, although it started hitting bugs requiring a workaround on macOS 26, which got me wondering, what is the correct approach here? NavigationSplitViewVisibility.doubleColumn is not the solution, as this hides column 1, not column 2.
