I am trying to play an HLS stream using the React Native Video player (underneath it's using AvPlayer). I am able to play the stream smoothly, but in some cases the player can not play the stream properly.
Behaviour:
react-native-video: I am getting the below error.
Error details from react-native-video player:
Error Code: -12971

The error does not provide a specific failure reason or recovery suggestion, which makes troubleshooting challenging.
AvPlayer on native iOS project: Video playback stopped after playing a few seconds.
AVPlayer configuration:
player.currentItem?.preferredForwardBufferDuration = 1
player.automaticallyWaitsToMinimizeStalling = true
N.B.: The same buffer duration is working perfectly for others.
Stream properties:
video resolution: 1280 x 720
I have attached an overview report generated from MediaStreamValidator.
I would appreciate any insights or suggestions on how to address this error. Has anyone in the community experienced a similar issue or have any advice on potential solutions?

Hi, when using ApplicationMusicPlayer from MusicKit my app automatically gets the media controls on the lock screen: Play/ Pause, Skip Buttons, Playback Position etc.
I would like to customize these. Tried a bunch of things, e.g. using MPRemoteCommandCenter. So far I haven't had any success.
Does anyone know how I can customize the media controls of ApplicationMusicPlayer.

Safari is supposed to support animated AVIF images since version 16, but the ones I've tested perform very poorly, even on an M4 Mac Mini running Sequoia 15.1.1.
I believe Safari delegates decoding to the operating system itself, so this issue also happens in Live Preview in the finder, when I try to preview a file.

This plays perfectly on Chrome on Mac OS, but is slow and laggy on Safari and Live Preview (it takes about 6.5 seconds to finish the 5 second video).

I'm working on a project to support spatial audio editing, using this sample project as a reference: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cinematic/editing-spatial-audio-with-an-audio-mix
This sample works well on an unedited capture, but does not work for a capture that has already been edited.
The failure is occurring at "let audioInfo = try await CNAssetSpatialAudioInfo(asset: myAsset)", which is throwing "no eligible audio tracks in asset".
I also find that for already edited captures, if i use CNAssetSpatialAudioInfo.assetContainsSpatialAudio, it returns false.
What i mean by "already edited" is that if I take a spatial capture with my iPhone 16, and then edit that capture in the Photos app using the Cinematic effect, and then save the edited output (e.g. edited_capture.mov), I can't import that edited_capture.mov into my project as a spatial audio asset.
Is this intentional behavior or a bug?
If it's intentional, can you describe why?

DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM
When encoding H264 video codec data using the VTCompressionSession API facilities available through the VideoToolbox framework on MacOS, the resultant bitstream will invariably include Unregistered User Data SEI NAL units that carry the UUID "47564adc-5c4c-433f-94ef-c5113cd143a8".
The proprietary decoders we are working with currently struggle with filtering out these NAL units.
Can you explain what purpose this serves, what the meaning of the byte-wise unit payloads are, and which configuration settings the VideoToolbox encoder instance specifically depends upon for triggering the insertion of them?
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Invoke the instantiation of a new VideoToolbox H264 encoder object by calling VTCompressionSessionCreate with appropriate configuration flags.
2. Push frames through the encoder, receiving their encoded byte buffer counterparts through an asynchronous callback.
3. Write that encoded data to some buffer which will contain the totality of the encoder's output.
4. Inspect the NAL units of the initial portion of this output bitstream buffer.
5. Observe the presence of at least one Unregistered User Data SEI NAL unit carrying the "47564adc-5c4c-433f-94ef-c5113cd143a8" UUID near the beginning of the output segment.
Has anyone been able to successfully use MusicCatalogSearchRequest in a playgrounds app?
I have configured my playground similar to a regular app: app id with automatic music token generation turned on, music access authorized within the app itself, but whenever I query MusicCatalogSearchRequest I get an error thrown with .developerTokenRequestFailed.
Considering musickit is restricted in the sim, it would not surprise me if it was the same in playgrounds but it would be super helpful if I could prototype with musickit in playgrounds 4!
(This only started happening as of Xcode 26.)
I know macOS and watchOS don't support this property, but all other platforms do (did?) up until I upgraded Xcode. Now when I compile I get this:

I'm looking for a definitive clarification on how to completely disable all video stabilization, including the hardware OIS, using AVFoundation. The goal is to achieve a completely raw, unstabilized video feed, which is crucial when using external equipment like gimbals to avoid conflicting stabilization motions.
My research points to using the AVCaptureConnection property preferredVideoStabilizationMode and setting it to AVCaptureVideoStabilizationMode.off.
The documentation for the .off case states:
A mode that doesn’t stabilize video capture.
This description is slightly ambiguous. It's unclear whether this only affects software-level stabilization (EIS, EIS+OIS, etc) or if it guarantees the complete deactivation of the physical OIS module. For professional video applications, this is a critical distinction.
So, I'd like to ask the community:
Has anyone been able to definitively confirm that setting preferredVideoStabilizationMode to .off also disables the hardware OIS? Are there any known tests or documentation that prove this behavior?
Is there an alternative or more direct method to ensure the OIS module is physically inactive during video capture?
What is the community's best practice for ensuring absolutely no stabilization is applied to the video pipeline?
Any insights or shared experiences on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I would like to use macro-mode for the custom camera using AVCaptureDevice in my project. This feature might help to automatically adjust and switch between lenses to get a close up clear image. It looks like this feature is not available and there are no open apis to achieve macro mode from Apple. Is there a way to get this functionality in the custom camera without losing the image quality. Please let me know if this is possible.

I have an iOS app that is recording audio that is working fine on iPads/iPhones. It asks for microphone permission and after that recording works.
I installed the same app on my M3 MacBook via TestFlight since iPad apps are supposed to work without a change that way. The app starts fine and everything, but it never asks for Microphone permission, so I can't record.
Do I need to do something to make this happen (this is not macCatalyst, its running the arm64 iPhone binary on macOS)

Is there any feasible way to get a Core Audio device's system effect status (Voice Isolation, Wide Spectrum)?
AVCaptureDevice provides convenience properties for system effects for video devices. I need to get this status for Core Audio input devices.
We are encountering a critical, intermittently occurring crash issue when accessing photo data using PHAssetResourceManager.writeDataForAssetResource on iOS 18. The problem does not arise on iOS 17 or earlier versions.
We have been unable to identify a consistent reproduction path. Based on user feedback, the issue seems to involve Live Photo and Raw image files.
Our investigation has revealed that the crash occurs in the +[PISchema identifier] method of the PhotoImaging Framework. When called manually, this method causes a crash on iOS 18 but works without issues on iOS 17.

I noticed that Instagram and iMessage support receiving shared lyrics from Apple Music. Specifically, when users long-press lyrics, a sheet pops up showing iMessage and Instagram. Clicking on either app generates a beautifully formatted lyrics image.
I've looked through MusicKit documentation but couldn't find any related APIs.
How can I implement this functionality in my app?

I'm using Shazamkit in my IOS app and successfully capturing the currently playing track details, when using the devices (iPhone) built-in mic.
When I test with AirPods though, my app cannot both send the output to through the AirPods and capture that same output with the AirPods mic, for Shazamkit recognition.
I believe this must be possible, because the Shazamkit widget on IOS can do this.
Is it restricted in some way for third party apps?
If not, I'd appreciate some guidance on how to achieve this in Swift code.

I'm creating Live Photos programmatically in my app using the Photos and AVFoundation frameworks. While the Live Photos work perfectly in the Photos app (long press shows motion), users cannot set them as motion wallpapers. The system shows "Motion not available" message.
Here's my approach for creating Live Photos:

Expected Behavior
Live Photos created programmatically should be eligible for motion wallpapers, just like those from the Camera app.
Actual Behavior
System shows "Motion not available" and only allows setting as static wallpaper.
Any insights or workarounds would be greatly appreciated. This is affecting our users who want to use their created content as wallpapers.

Are there additional undocumented requirements for Live Photos to be wallpaper-eligible?
Is this a deliberate restriction for third-party apps, or a bug?
Has anyone successfully created Live Photos that work as motion wallpapers?

I noticed that AVSampleBufferDisplayLayerContentLayer is not released when the AVSampleBufferDisplayLayer is removed and released.
It is possible to reproduce the issue with the simple code:

In my real project I have mutliple AVSampleBufferDisplayLayer created and removed in different view controllers, this is problematic because the amount of leaked AVSampleBufferDisplayLayerContentLayer keeps increasing.
I wonder that maybe I should use a pool of AVSampleBufferDisplayLayer and reuse them, however I'm slightly afraid that this can also lead to strange bugs.
Edit: It doesn't cause leaks on iOS 18 device but leaks on iPad Pro, iOS 17.5.1

My company has an in-store app with FPS SDK 4.x (1024) keys. We've handed those keys over to a trusted third-party and we do not have them. We've been in-store for several years.
The person that created the keys in our organization mistakenly stored them encrypted to our third-party's PGP keys, so we cannot decrypt them, and the third party also has no mechanism to provide us with the keys even though it is in their runtime environment. They only have secure mechanisms for us to upload keys onto their servers.
We are trying to migrate to a different third-party DRM provider, and would like to obtain new keys. Unfortunately, the developer portal won't let me create new keys, saying that we have exceeded the number of keys allowed, which I assume is one.
Additionally, the new DRM provider can only support SDK 4.x keys, and it appears that we can only request SDK 5.x keys on the Apple Developer portal, as the SDK 4.0 option is grayed out. Regardless, it seems that we are not able to request any keys.
We've submitted a request to the support e-mail address and received an automated e-mail that the response should take a few days, but may take longer on occasion. It's now been a month. The e-mail says that the reply address is not monitored. Is there any way we can accelerate this?

I am working on an iOS application using SwiftUI where I want to convert a JPG and a MOV file to a live photo. I am utilizing the LivePhoto Class from Github for this. The JPG and MOV files are displayed correctly in my WallpaperDetailView, but I am facing issues when trying to download the live photo to the gallery and generate the Live Photo.

I take that MusicKit JS is built with TypeScript, based on the attributions in the script: https://js-cdn.music.apple.com/musickit/v3/musickit.js
In the script it points to https://js-cdn.music.apple.com/musickit/v1/acknowledgements.txt – I assume this should be the v3 URL for the v3 version? It returns the same content nonetheless.
This contains attributions for TypeScript.
Currently there's a third-party effort with DefinitelyTyped, which publishes the NPM package @types/musickit-js. The latest supported version available is v1.
However, there is no version compatible with v3.
This makes it hard to use MusicKit JS v3 in a TypeScript project.
Please publish the types, ideally on the CDN along with the musickit.js file. Also consider publishing an officially Apple supported DefinitelyTyped package, or help to maintain the existing @types/musickit-js to make consuming this even easier.
