Is MusicKit JS supported or permitted in headless Chromium on embedded Linux?
Hi, We are building a network audio device running embedded Linux (headless — no display, no user-facing browser UI). I'd like to clarify whether MusicKit JS can be used in this environment, both technically and from a licensing standpoint. Our setup Embedded Linux on ARM, no screen Headless Chromium running as a background service MusicKit JS loaded in a page to authenticate the user and play Apple Music Questions Is MusicKit JS supported in a headless browser context, or is it intended only for interactive, user-facing browser sessions? MusicKit JS requires a Developer Token with an origin claim, and a valid web origin. If the page is served locally on the device (e.g. http://127.0.0.1) with no public domain, what origin should be used? Is a local origin acceptable? Is embedding MusicKit JS inside device firmware — where the browser is never visible to the user and playback is not initiated through a normal browsing session — within the MusicKit terms of use? I want to confirm whether running MusicKit JS in headless Chromium would be considered an acceptable implementation。 For context: we are already MFi licensees with AirPlay 2 integrated. We simply want to be certain any additional work stays within the authorized scope. Any guidance — including a pointer to the relevant section of the MusicKit terms — would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

Musickit SDK for Android broken after Apple Music app update
Hi, The Musickit SDK for Android seems to be broken after the Apple Music app update from last week. We are launching the intent like this: AuthIntentBuilder aib = authManager.createIntentBuilder(appleTokenProvider.getDeveloperToken()); Intent intent = aib.build(); authLauncher.launch(intent); A new Apple Music UI is shown. The user is asked to login with email and password. However, after succesfull login the intent returns the error USER_CANCELLED for authManager.handleTokenResult(data); This was not the case before the latest Apple Music app update. The only workaround is to logout in the Apple Music app, then retry to launch the intent in our app. This has to be done every time the music user token expires. Any ETA on fixing this issue?

Ventura Hack for FireWire Core Audio Support on Supported MacBook Pro and others...
Hi all,  Apple dropping on-going development for FireWire devices that were supported with the Core Audio driver standard is a catastrophe for a lot of struggling musicians who need to both keep up to date on security updates that come with new OS releases, and continue to utilise their hard earned investments in very expensive and still pristine audio devices that have been reduced to e-waste by Apple's seemingly tone-deaf ignorance in the cries for on-going support.  I have one of said audio devices, and I'd like to keep using it while keeping my 2019 Intel Mac Book Pro up to date with the latest security updates and OS features.  Probably not the first time you gurus have had someone make the logical leap leading to a request for something like this, but I was wondering if it might be somehow possible of shoe-horning the code used in previous versions of Mac OS that allowed the Mac to speak with the audio features of such devices to run inside the Ventura version of the OS.  Would it possible? Would it involve a lot of work? I don't think I'd be the only person willing to pay for a third party application or utility that restored this functionality. There has to be 100's of thousands of people who would be happy to spare some cash to stop their multi-thousand dollar investment in gear to be so thoughtlessly resigned to the scrap heap.  Any comments or layman-friendly explanations as to why this couldn’t happen would be gratefully received!  Thanks,  em

Is using MusicKit for a non-commercial music intro quiz permitted under Apple’s terms?
Hello, I am developing a non-commercial, web-based music intro quiz using MusicKit on the Web and Apple Music. Before proceeding with development and potentially making the application publicly available, I would like to clarify whether the following implementation complies with Apple’s MusicKit and Apple Music terms. Planned implementation: Each participant authenticates with their own Apple Music account and must have an active subscription. Music is streamed directly from Apple Music to each participant’s device through MusicKit. My server only sends Apple Music song IDs and playback control messages. No audio files are downloaded, stored, modified, redistributed, or transmitted through my server. When the host starts a question, the application triggers playback on each participant’s device. Playback automatically stops after approximately five seconds, allowing participants to guess the song. The application is initially intended for private, non-commercial use with approximately 5–10 participants. I may eventually make it publicly available for online multiplayer sessions. My questions are: Is it permitted for a host to remotely trigger MusicKit playback on other participants’ devices, provided each participant has authenticated with their own Apple Music account? Does automatically stopping playback after approximately five seconds violate any MusicKit playback requirements? Is using Apple Music playback as part of a music identification quiz or game permitted? Would sending song IDs and playback commands to multiple devices be considered prohibited synchronization of Apple Music content, even though each device streams the audio independently? If this implementation is not permitted, would requiring each participant to manually initiate playback make the application compliant, assuming all other requirements are satisfied? Are there any additional licensing requirements or permissions necessary before making this type of application publicly available? I understand that MusicKit has requirements concerning user-initiated playback, standard playback controls, and synchronization with other content. I would particularly appreciate clarification on how these requirements apply to this use case. If this forum is not the appropriate place for questions about MusicKit licensing and permitted use, could someone please direct me to the appropriate Apple team or contact point? Thank you for your time and guidance.

Supported Music User Token flow for a Windows desktop app using MusicKit on the Web
Hello, I am building a Windows desktop application that lets users migrate their own playlists between music services. Apple currently documents automatic Music User Token management for Apple platforms and web apps, and manual token management for Android. I could not find a documented native Windows authorization flow. My proposed architecture is: Windows desktop app → system browser → MusicKit on the Web authorization → return authorization to the same Windows desktop app. The desktop app would then call Apple Music API directly using a developer token issued by my backend and the user authorization obtained through MusicKit. My questions are: Is there a supported way for a Windows desktop app to obtain a Music User Token through MusicKit on the Web and then use that token from the desktop process? Is handing the token back from the browser to the same Windows device supported? If yes, is there a recommended handoff mechanism or lifecycle/refresh guidance? Is secure local storage of that Music User Token on Windows supported? I am not asking about playback. The intended usage is only reading the user’s playlists and creating playlists through Apple Music API. The Media Services private key would remain server-side and would never be shipped with the desktop application. Thank you.

SCStreamOutputType.audio delivers correctly-formed but all-zero PCM for VoIP background audio
Is silently zeroing .audio output for communications/VoIP-category background app audio (while leaving frame delivery, timing, and format metadata intact) expected, documented behavior on iOS? Is there an SCStreamConfiguration or SCContentFilter setting that unlocks this, or is this a known gap in the current iOS ScreenCaptureKit implementation relative to macOS (where .audio is documented/known to capture other apps' audio including calls)? A pointer to relevant documentation or a radar number would be very helpful. My test app: Rabbler Rabbler main use it turning voice to text transcriptions. ie. meeting notes. It works well using the iPhone mic or AirPods. It fails when Zoom or Teams meeting is joined. Audio is paused by a well handled interruption. But that yields lost transcription text. This rules out a session-wide permission failure -.micophone clearly has real access to audio in this exact session; .audio does not, specifically for this source. evidence now looks like this iOS 27 ScreenCaptureKit │ ├── SomaFM playback │ └── .audio → REAL PCM ✓ │ ├── Zoom remote audio │ └── .audio → ZERO PCM ✗ │ └── Teams remote audio └── .audio → ZERO PCM ✗

AVSpeechSynthesizer Enhanced voices produce silent audio in sandboxed Mac Catalyst app
I have reproduced an issue with AVSpeechSynthesizer on macOS 26.6.2 (25G83) using a minimal Mac Catalyst application. Environment macOS 26.6.2 (25G83) Apple Silicon Xcode 26.x Mac Catalyst AVSpeechSynthesizer Enhanced voice: com.apple.voice.enhanced.en-GB.Daniel The problem is specifically related to App Sandbox. Reproduction I created a completely new minimal Mac Catalyst application. With App Sandbox disabled: let synthesizer = AVSpeechSynthesizer() let utterance = AVSpeechUtterance(string: "Hello, this is a test.") utterance.voice = AVSpeechSynthesisVoice(identifier: "com.apple.voice.enhanced.en-GB.Daniel") synthesizer.speak(utterance) The Enhanced voice works normally. With App Sandbox enabled, with no other sandbox capabilities enabled, the same code no longer produces audible speech.

Breaking change in Apple Music Recently Played API behavior
The Apple Music Recently Played API appears to have changed its behavior on 2026-08-05/2026-08-06. The endpoint no longer reports songs that are saved in a user's library. This impacts music tracking applications that rely on this API to retrieve listening history. Currently, tracks only appear in the Recently Played response when users stream them directly from the Apple Music catalog. If a user plays a song from their personal library, the playback is not reported by the endpoint and cannot be tracked. This is a breaking change that significantly affects existing integrations, but we could not find any announcement in the release notes or updates to the documentation regarding this behavior change. Could you please confirm whether this change is intentional? If so, we would appreciate updated documentation or guidance on how apps should handle tracking playback from a user's library.

iOS 27: SCStreamConfiguration.excludesCurrentProcessAudio has no effect (0.0 dB separation) - what is the supported way to exclude our own audio?
On iOS, SCStreamConfiguration.excludesCurrentProcessAudio appears to do nothing. Audio produced by our own process is captured at full level, so there is currently no way to capture device audio while excluding what our app is playing. Measurement (deterministic probe, 2026-08-08): Our app plays a 1 kHz tone at -4.9 dBFS RMS from its own process while capturing device audio with SCStreamConfiguration.capturesAudio = true and excludesCurrentProcessAudio = true. The configuration in force is read back from the stream and logged, so we know the flag is actually set. The captured audio contained our own tone at -4.9 dBFS peak. Separation = 0.0 dB. 1,573 audio sample buffers analyzed over 31.5 s (16 kHz mono, 50 buffers/s), zero analysis failures, and the run was reproduced twice about 3 hours apart with byte-identical verdicts. Environment for that run: iPhone 16 Pro (iPhone17,1), iOS 27.0, built with Xcode 27 beta 4 (27A5228h) against the iOS 27 SDK, installed directly from Xcode. Still reproducing on the current build: on iOS 27.0 (24A5418b) our shipping capture path still receives our own playback. In production we now have to cancel it ourselves - we align our playback buffer to the captured stream by cross-correlation and subtract it. The correlation between the captured signal and our own playback sits at |r| = 0.65-0.85 in the affected segments, i.e. the capture is dominated by a copy of our own output, exactly what excludesCurrentProcessAudio is supposed to remove. Doing this subtraction in-process costs real CPU and only works while we can hold a delay lock. Why this is blocking: RPSampleBufferType.audioApp is deprecated as of iOS 27 and the documentation points to ScreenCaptureKit as the replacement. With excludesCurrentProcessAudio non-functional there is no supported path on iOS to capture device audio while excluding one's own process. Our app is a real-time dubbing app - it captures foreign-language audio, transcribes it, and plays back a translated voice - so our own output re-entering the capture is fed straight back into transcription and corrupts the session. My questions: (1) Is excludesCurrentProcessAudio expected to be functional on iOS 27, or is it macOS-only in practice? The documentation does not mark it as unavailable on iOS. (2) If it is expected to work, is there anything the app must do besides setting it on the SCStreamConfiguration used to start the stream? (3) If it is not going to work on iOS, what is the supported way to exclude the current process's audio from a ScreenCaptureKit capture, now that RPSampleBufferType.audioApp is deprecated? Filed as FB24170972 on 2026-08-08, with the full JSON event logs from both probe runs attached. There has been no response on the Feedback, which is why I am raising it here.

List of RAW 9 bugs
Thanks for adding CoreML into the Apple RAW decoder. I'm excited with what it can bring. But I'm having a number of issues with it. My code base is written in Objective-C, and I'm using my custom MTKView. Now when I enabled RAW 9 support, the render is extremely slow (instant vs seconds). The UI would appear to hang with a spinning color wheel. It feels like CoreML processing is being delegated in the rendering thread, which runs on the main queue. How can I improve performance? As someone has reported, there is a black horizontal line in the middle of the image. The image that I was testing came from Fuji X-T5. If I enable EDR (Extended Dynamic Range), RAW 9 stops rendering, and will return ANE error. My app does HDR rendering of RAW files. I cannot get something like Sony A7R IV ARW image to load. Same ANE error. Is there a memory setting I need to tweak? When I render the X-T5 image, the colors appear to be overly saturated, which is different from the result of RAW 8. I cannot speak for the color rendering of other types of RAW files. I was told code base with Catalyst (and perhaps Swift) works without issue, other than being slow (except for large RAW files), but there seems to be an issue with Objective-C?

iOS 27: ScreenCaptureKit requires UIBackgroundModes 'screen-capture', but App StoiOS 27: ScreenCaptureKit requires UIBackgroundModes 'screen-capture', but App Store Connect rejects that valuere Connect rejects that value
On iOS, ScreenCaptureKit terminates an SCStream when the app is backgrounded unless the app declares UIBackgroundModes: screen-capture. The delegate reports SCStreamError code -3824 (SCStreamError.Code.missingBackgroundMode). Adding screen-capture to UIBackgroundModes - the value Apple's own iOS 27 ScreenCaptureKit sample code declares - makes App Store Connect reject the upload: error: exportArchive Invalid Info.plist value. The Info.plist key UIBackgroundModes contains an invalid value: 'screen-capture'. So the app cannot be distributed at all, not even to TestFlight internal testers. We have ruled out simply keeping the process alive: running a continuous silent AVAudioEngine under the audio background mode keeps the app running but does not prevent -3824, which is consistent with the framework performing an explicit background-mode check rather than the stream dying from process suspension. One observation that may explain why this has gone unnoticed: Apple's sample is installed directly from Xcode and therefore never passes through App Store Connect's upload validation, so a mismatch between the sample's Info.plist and App Store Connect's allowlist would not be visible when testing the sample internally. My question is which of these three describes the actual status of screen-capture for third-party iOS apps: (1) App Store Connect's allowlist has not yet been updated for iOS 27, and this will resolve on its own. (2) screen-capture requires an entitlement or a specially provisioned profile we have not requested. If so, which one, and how is it requested? (3) screen-capture is restricted to Apple's own or system applications and is not available to third-party App Store apps by design. I could not find screen-capture documented on the general UIBackgroundModes page, which is why I cannot tell these apart. Filed as FB24169650. Device: iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 27.0 Built against the iOS 27 SDK, deployment target 17.0.

Apple Music API - Credits Endpoint
Hi! I was wondering if there is currently a method that you have been using to retrieve information on credits (i.e. mixers, producers, engineers etc.) via the Apple Music API as an endpoint. I know it is possible to retrieve performing artists but would find it very useful to export data on the "Composition & Lyrics" and "Production & Engineering" sections when you view a songs credits on the front end as seen in the attached image. If not, is this a feature that is being currently worked on? Would be so useful for developers working with large catalogues. Thanks! Spencer

METrackReader subtitle tracks
Hi, I've written a Media Extension that adds support for .mkv and other file formats. I have it working for various audio and video codecs, but I'm stuck when it comes to adding support for subtitles. Some questions: How do I specify the language associated with a track? I have tried setting METrackInfo.extendedLanguageTag to e.g. "ja" or "jpn" and this value is reflected in AVAssetTrack.extendedLanguageTag, but AVAssetTrack.languageCode stays nil and AVAsset.availableMediaCharacteristicsWithMediaSelectionOptions is empty. How do I supply a subtitle track? I have tried returning a METrackInfo containing a CMFormatDescription of type kCMMediaType_Subtitle or kCMMediaType_Text with subtype kCMSubtitleFormatType_3GText or kCMSubtitleFormatType_WebVTT, but this causes AVFoundation to refuse to play the file at all. (There's some WIP code at https://github.com/Marginal/QuickLookVideo/blob/subtitles/formatreader/subtitletrackreader.swift) Anyone had any experience with either of these?

Apple Music API - What am I missing?
So I'm digging through the Apple Music API trying to implement it into a music app. I feel like I have to be missing a huge piece of the puzzle. Did Apple really miss something this big?Let's take Apple Curators for instance, catalog/{storefront}/apple-curators/{id} Where do I get the list of all available Apple Curators? Same can be said for stations, artists, curators and activities. catalog/{storefront}/search looked promising for a second, until you realize you're required to supply a search term.At first glance, Top Chart Genres catalog/{storefront}/genres looked promising. Returns a full list of available Genres, but you then take one of those items and hit catalog/{storefront}/genres/{id} with it and you end up with the same exact json. Huh? Shouldn't that return me a list of albums and songs from that genre or at the very least, a link to get that information? Thus far the only thing that seems to return anything useful is /me/recent/played and /me/recommendations. /me/history/heavy-rotation is returning an empty data set, but I assume that's due to my lack of use of Apple Music (signed up a few weeks ago).Someone, please, tell me what I'm missing here. Is the API this lacking in functionality?

MusicKit JS: clarification on 3.3.6(D) for a shared listening web app
Hi, I'm an individual developer in Japan planning a web app with MusicKit JS, and I'd like to confirm my reading of the Apple Developer Program License Agreement, section 3.3.6(D) (MusicKit), before I start building. The design A "host" picks a song. Other people in the same room hear that same song. Every user plays it on their own device, through their own Apple Music subscription, in their own MusicKit JS instance. My server never receives, stores, caches, transcodes, or transmits any audio. My server only relays control metadata: a song identifier and an approximate playback position, so each client can start near the same point. Each user explicitly taps to start playback in their own browser. Standard play / pause / skip controls are available to every user. Apple Music playback is free for everyone in the app. No paywall, no ads, and no requirement to hand over personal information in order to listen. My questions 3.3.6(D) says "MusicKit Content cannot be synchronized with any other content." I read this as referring to synchronization with other media (for example, using a song as a soundtrack for video or images), and not as prohibiting multiple users independently playing the same song at roughly the same time through their own subscriptions. Is that reading correct? 3.3.6(D) says I must not "require payment for or indirectly monetize access to the Apple Music service." If Apple Music playback stays entirely free for all users, and I separately charge hosts for features unrelated to playback (for example audience analytics, custom branding for their room page, and scheduling tools), would that count as indirect monetization of access to the Apple Music service? 3.3.6(D) says "users must initiate playback." If a user taps play once and a queue then continues to the next track automatically (ordinary continuous playback), is that acceptable? Or does the user need to tap for each track individually when the host changes the selection? I'd like to build this correctly from the start, so any guidance is appreciated. If these are better directed to another channel, a pointer would be very welcome. Thanks, Sho

Core Media errors should be better described and documented
Errors related to media playback, whether received from AVPlayer directly or read from an AVPlayerItem access log, usually lack information about the root cause of a playback issue. Most errors we receive in the CoreMediaErrorDomain are namely associated with undocumented error codes and non-explicit error messages. Here are a few examples: Error Domain=CoreMediaErrorDomain Code=-12927 "(null)" Error Domain=CoreMediaErrorDomain Code=-16012 "(null)" Error Domain=CoreMediaErrorDomain Code=-12685 "The operation couldn’t be completed." Error Domain=CoreMediaErrorDomain Code=-12648 "The operation couldn’t be completed." It would be helpful that Core Media: Provides a public constant for the CoreMediaErrorDomain. Provides public constants for the error codes within this domain. Ensures each error is associated with a meaningful human-readable description. If not possible having at least a documented list of error codes (as is done in the FairPlay programming guide PDF, for example) would allow us to better classify errors and understand playback errors experienced by our users. I opened a FB17673165 feedback with this suggestion as well. Thanks in advance for considering this improvement request.

MusicKit – Significant Gap Between Tracks
We’ve worked extensively on beatsinspace.net/mixes, where authenticated users with an Apple Music subscription can listen to full Beats in Space mixes through MusicKit JS on the web. https://www.beatsinspace.net/mixes Each mix is published as an Apple Music album, with the tracks acting as chapters within one continuous DJ mix. However, there is a noticeable gap between every track when listening through the website. The same mixes play seamlessly in the native Apple Music app. We’ve tested this across Chrome and Safari, as well as in a standalone prototype, and the issue appears to happen specifically with MusicKit JS playback. Do we know why this is happening and whether there is a supported way to prevent it? Would deeply appreciate any pointers here. Thank you!

Environment iOS 27.0, physical device iPhone 15ProMax (not simulator) Xcode 27.0 (Build 27A266a), iPhoneOS27.0 SDK App target UIBackgroundModes: audio, screen-capture Capture another app's audio via SCStream's .audio output type, using SCContentSharingPicker for source selection, per the "Capturing screen content on iOS" sample's picker pattern. Setup (trimmed to the relevant parts) var configuration = SCContentSharingPickerConfiguration() configuration.showsMicrophoneControl = true picker.defaultConfiguration = configuration picker.add(self) picker.isActive = true picker.present() // contentSharingPicker(_:didUpdateWith:for:) -> startStream(with:) let config = SCStreamConfiguration() config.capturesAudio = true let newStream = SCStream(filter: filter, configuration: config, delegate: self) try newStream.addStreamOutput(seldlerQueue: .main) if filter.isMicrophoneEnabled { try newStream.addStreamOutputsampleHandlerQueue: .main) } try await newStream.startCapture( Sample-buffer handling, convertinmeasuring amplitude: func stream(_ stream: SCStream, deBuffer: CMSampleBuffer, of type:SCStreamOutputType) { guard sampleBuffer.isValid, tmicrophone else { return } // ... (format captured once from first buffer via CMAudioFormatDescriptionGetStream let frameCount = AVAudioFrameCount(CMSampleBufferGetNumSamples(sampleBuffer)) let pcmBuffer = AVAudioPCMBufmeCapacity: frameCount)! pcmBuffer.frameLength = frameCount let status = CMSampleBufferCost( sampleBuffer, at: 0, frameCount: Int32(frameCount), into: pcmBuffer.mutableAudioBufferList ) // status == noErr every time } Amplitude check on the resulting AVAudioPCMBuffer.floatChannelData: var peak: Float = 0, sumSquares: 0 for channel in 0..<Int(buffer.format.channelCount) { let samples = channelData[cha for frame in 0..<frameCount { let sample = samples[fram peak = max(peak, abs(sample)) sumSquares += sample * sa if sample != 0 { nonZeroCount += 1 } } } Result 1 — Music app selected as capture source (baseline, works correctly) Real audio content: writing the buffers straight to a .caf file via AVAudioFile produces a real, listenable ~9MB file matchihe capture duration (stereo, 48kHz, Float32). Confirmed by ear. Result 2 — Zoom call selected as capture source (fails silently) SCStream delivers buffers continuously and correctly-formed — same format every time (2 ch, 48000 Hz, Float32, deinterleaved)atus == noErr fromCMSampleBufferCopyPCMDataIntoAudioBufferList every time. But every sample is exactly zero: [2:17:19 PM] ScreenCaptureService: .audio first buffer format — <AVAudioFormat 0x12063fb60: 2ch, 48000 Hz, Float32, deinterlea [2:17:19 PM] ScreenCaptureService: .audio buffer #1 — peak=0.0 rms=0.0 nonZero=0/1920 [2:17:19 PM] ScreenCaptureService0.0 rms=0.0 nonZero=0/1920 ... [2:17:21 PM] ScreenCaptureServicek=0.0 rms=0.0 nonZero=0/1920 [2:18:27 PM] ScreenCaptureService: .audio buffer #3400 — peak=0.0 rms=0.0 nonZero=0/1920 That's peak=0.0/rms=0.0/0 nonZero samples across every single one of 3400+ consecutive buffersover ~70 seconds of an active Zoo Writing these buffers to a .caffile produces a valid, correctly-sized, completely silent audio file — not corrupted, not empty, genuinely all zeros. Control test — .microphone in theall With filter.isMicrophoneEnabled = on the same SCStream, during thesame Zoom call, correctly captures the local user's own voice (confirmed by ear from the resulting file) — even though the call is silently holding exclusive access to the mic hardware from Rabbler's own AVAudioEngine.inputNode tap (which gets interrupted, as expected).

Thank you!
