Canvas performance slow on Safari, iPad 10 only
This is my first time to post on this forum. If there are something we didn't notice, please tell me. Thanks. Background We're using canvas to provide a web component to marketing. https://demo.mescius.jp/spreadjs/BenchmarkSample/ Problem Recently we have met an issue from customer. He is using iPad 10th to access the web component but when he tries to scroll it and it's very slow on iPad 10th. His iPad OS version is 17.7 and this issue also can be reproduced on our iPad 10th with iPad OS 18.0.1. But if we use iPad 9th with iPad OS 17.7 and 18.0.1, things are fine and there isn't any performance issue. We developer took some time investigating and found it's because of iPad 10th's safari takes longer time to paint each frame. On iPad 9th, it needs nearly 10ms to paint each frame. But on iPad 10, it needs nearly 70ms to paint each frame. Also we can provide simple code for you to check the different. We tried to simulate the repaint when user is scrolling. You can see on iPad 9th, it will be 2~3ms but on iPad 10th, it will be more than 10ms for each frame. test-ipad10.html It has been happening on iPad 10th only with iPad OS 17.6/17.7/18.0. This will be a big problem for us because it means on the iPad 10th (the latest iPad, non Pro or Air), it can't be used. Question Is there anyone knowing similar issue with this one? And do you know how to solve it on iPad 10?

Safari goes into an infinite loading loop if it cannot load the webpage
I have a Safari extension which allows the user to load their own homepage upon opening a new tab. The extension works by retrieving the homepage URL from UserDefaults and then redirecting to it using window.location.replace. In iOS 18, if the homepage is unable to be loaded due to, for example the user having no internet connection, Safari will go into an rapid loading loop, which eventually stops after a while. This is unlike iOS 17, where trying to reproduce the same scenario will end up with a Safari error page, which should be the expected behaviour. In short, instead of Safari going into an infinite loading loop, it should display a Safari error page like iOS 17 does. As this issue is only happening on iOS 18, I am almost certain it's an iOS bug and would appreciate if this can be fixed as soon as possible. I have created a Feedback Assistant report with ID FB15853821, which contains a sysdiagnose file from my iPhone 16 Pro, as well as two videos, one from my iPhone 16 Pro with iOS 18.2 beta 3 and the other video showing a comparison between iOS 18 and 17. Both videos first show the extension functioning correctly with an active internet connection, but when I disable my internet, the iOS 18 Safari goes into an infinite loop. Here are the steps to reproduce the issue: Download the Homepage for Safari app from the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/homepage-for-safari/id6481118559 Enter any valid homepage URL, such as https://apple.com and tap Save Go to Settings -> Apps -> Safari -> Extensions -> Homepage and enable the extension Make sure Open New Tabs is set to “Homepage” Turn off both WiFi and cellular data and attempt to open a new tab in Safari Please note that this also happens with iOS 18.2 beta 4.

Unable to Override "Link with Highlight" in WKWebView
Hello everyone, I'm working on an app that uses WKWebView. My app uses a custom menu and we disable the default menu by overriding with: WKWebAction.canPerformAction() However, with the new iOS 18.2 release, I am no longer able to override the "Copy Link with Highlight" option that pops up when highlighting a selection as can be seen from the screenshot: Has anyone found a work around/bypass for this? Environment iOS Version: iOS 18.2 Device: iPhone 13 Pro App platform: iOS Xcode version: 16.1 MacOS: 14.5

Content blocker not removing content
I have a content blocker that generally works correctly, but I need to block an element that has certain text in it. For example, <span id="theId">Some text</span> is easy enough to block because I can locate the id and block that, but what if there is no id, or the id is completely random? What if it's just <span>Some text</span>? How do I block that? Let's say this is my only content blocker rule: [ { "action": { "type": "css-display-none", "selector": ":has-text(/Some text/i)" }, "trigger": { "url-filter": ".*" } } ] No errors are seen when the rule is loaded, so it's syntactically correct, it just doesn't block the HTML. I gather this is because :has-text() works on attributes, not contents, so it works on alt, href, aria-label etc. but not on the contents of the element itself. How do I block Some text in my example above? Thanks!

Angular/Cordova application not responding to touch events
We have a Angular/Cordova application which is internal and is deployed on 10th gen iPad's currently. After updating the iOS version to 18.2 (current patch 18.2.1) the touch events on buttons and other views forms such as div are not firing the desired typescript methods. We are getting the touch events on the screen with relevant script which uses eventListner for debugging the touchevent but it doesn't fire at relevant methods at times. "click" can be replaced with "touchend "and "submit". document.addEventListener('click', (event) => { handleGlobalEvent(event, 'click'); });

LocalOverride Request regular expression broke dev tools
Hello, I'm using Safari 18.2 on Sonoma 14.6.1. I was using the Developer Tools to do a Local Request Override in the Source tab for a CSS file that had a changing query string. I thought I had a good regular expression to catch all variants, but apparently it was too generic and possibly wrong, and made both Source and Network tabs no longer work in my Safari. The regular expression I entered for the Local Request Override was: //build/style.css(?.*)?$ Now my dev tools is broken to the extent that the Source and Network tabs no longer work. The slide-out panel on Source that shows Breakpoints, LocalOverrides, etc no longer shows. The toggle for it does, but does nothing now. UI in general looks a little wack on both tabs. So, since I can't turn off the Local Request Override, I've been trying to locate where Safari may have stored it to manually delete it. Not having a lot of luck on that front. It seems to me that Safari was unable to escape my regular expression correctly and it then causes additional issue. Just a guess though. Any advice or help in getting Safari Source & Network working again / manual removal of the LocalOverride would be greatly appreciated. I'm fluent in OSX and Linux, but grep was not much help surfacing anything that worked. Thanks in Advance, possibly a Safari bug as well.

macOS customized shortcut for Safari with menu title "ReTab" doesn't trigger the extension
Hello! I've made a Safari extension that supports command "ReTab", and a couple of month ago, adding a customized macOS shortcut for Safari with menu title "ReTab" did trigger the extension. However, it's not working anymore and I'm not sure if it's from macOS/Safari update or because I changed manifest from v2 to v3 - could you help check if there's anything wrong with either the manifest.json or background.js? (the default Cmd+E still works) Thank you in advance! Xun manifest.json: { "manifest_version": 3, "default_locale": "en", "name": "ReTab", "description": "Go to the last active tab with Cmd+E!", "version": "1.4", "homepage_url": "https://LycheeIsle.com", "background": { "service_worker": "background.js" }, "action": { "default_icon": "images/toolbar-icon.svg" }, "permissions": [ "commands", "tabs", "storage" ], "commands": { "ReTab": { "suggested_key": { "default": "Command+E" }, "description": "Go to the last active tab" } }, "options_page": "options.html" } in background.js, I have this line which should listen to the command, and Cmd+E works but any customized shortcut for "ReTab" in Safari doesn't: browser.commands.onCommand.addListener(async (command) => { if (command === "ReTab" || command === "retab") { await retab() } });

ServiceWorker Support in iOS WKWebView
Is ServiceWorker supported on WKWebView? As per Mozilla Developer Network(MDN Web) docs[1] its not supported, but our research shows that ServiceWorker becomes available for a domain in WKWebView 1) if the domain is allowlisted in app-bound domains[2] or 2) if app is registered as default browser(this can not be considered for our app as its not a browser). How to enable ServiceWorker on WKWebView? Is adding domain as app-bound domain the right/only way to enable ServiceWorker on WKWebView? We didn't find any official documentation about this. Can WebView get ServiceWorker support by default without enabling app bound domains since that is not an option for our app? Our app needs to support more than 10 domains. Powerful APIs such as JavaScript injection, cookie manipulation, event handlers are by default available to all domains/WebView instances even if App doesn't enable app-bound domains. Is it possible to do same for ServiceWorker? If ServiceWorker can not be supported by default then can Apple provide a feature by which ServiceWorker will be enabled in App for all the domains? Apple enforces maximum of 10 app-bound domains. Is it possible to remove this limit and provide a way to dynamically add to this list at the time of a request? Problems with Safari autocomplete
Hello, following problems described here: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/765272 Last version of Safari apparently corrected previous bugs, however we encountered another problem. Right now Safari uses autocomplete feature of some kind (Siri suggested websites/Top hit) which triggers blocking while writing the name of the website. Probably somehow loads website in the background. Problem is, that this behavior is impossible to debug, because this autocomplete doesn't work, while the browser console is open. We are using content script for blocking. Please advise. Thanks very much

Content blockers: ignore-previous-rules not working?
In my content blocker I have a bunch of rules that block some content in Safari, but I want my users to be able to whiltelist a website so the blocker rules don't apply on that site. I have something like this: { "action": { "type":"css-display-none", "selector":"a[href*='Bobbins']" }, "trigger": { "url-filter":".*" } }, { "trigger": { "url-filter": ".*", "if-domain": ["*mydomain.com"] }, "action": { "type": "ignore-previous-rules" } } I think that should block any a link where the href includes Bobbins but not if the site is mydomain.com. However, that simply doesn't work. It doesn't matter what I put in the array of domains to whitelist, it just doesn't apply it. In every case, the a link is blocked. How do you actually whitelist a website in a Safari content blocker?

Issue with Safari and webserver with unencrypted HTTP traffic
We seem to be having an issue with a webservice here which is used within our network and IOS Safari. For the service to work , we need to access it with an unencrypted HTTP API call, which acts as a trigger. The server does not respond to HTTPS requests. (the HTTP API call does not contain any data that is privacy sensitive or that can be abused) Since recently the service does not seem to work anymore properly, but this only happens with Safari and IOS. With all other browsers the service is still working normally, only with Safarai it fails. No matter what I do in the settings of the phone, the Safar browser seems to stop immediately after the HTTP request. What is going on here ?? The issue seems to occur only when you don't have an iCloud+ account. With an iCloud+ account I get the same issue when you switch Apple Private Relay on, but that make sense. When I have Apple Private Relay switched off, there is no issue.

Content overlapping address bar after clicking links in Safari with the one-tab bar enabled
Title: Content Overlapping Address Bar After Clicking Links in Safari, tested on iPhone 11 (iOS 18.1.1) Description: When browsing in Safari on iPhone (iOS 18.1.1), the one-tab bar (address bar) collapses as expected when scrolling down a page. However, after clicking on a link and loading the next page, the content appears to overlap the collapsed address bar. This results in parts of the content being hidden or obscured by the address bar, which affects the user experience, especially on mobile devices with limited screen space. This issue is reproducible on Next.js applications and can be observed on websites such as rotterdam.nl and halderberge.nl. Steps to Reproduce: Enable the One-Tab Bar: Go to Settings > Safari and enable the one-tab bar feature. Open the website rotterdam.nl or halderberge.nl in Safari on an iPhone 11 (iOS 18.1.1). Scroll down the page so that the top address bar collapses. Click on any link on the page to load a new one. Once the new page loads, observe that the content appears on top of the collapsed address bar, causing parts of the content to be hidden or obscured. Expected Result: The content should not overlap or be hidden behind the collapsed address bar after the page reloads. The layout should adjust properly without interference from the address bar, providing a smooth user experience. Actual Result: When the new page loads, the content overlaps or appears on top of the collapsed address bar, causing parts of the content to be hidden or obscured. Device(s) Affected: iPhone 11 running iOS 18.1.1. OS Version: iOS 18.1.1 Technical Notes: To address this issue, the following solutions have been attempted with no success: Viewport Meta Tag: <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1, viewport-fit=cover" /> This was added to help ensure proper layout on mobile devices, but did not resolve the issue. CSS Safe Area Insets: body { padding-top: env(safe-area-inset-top); } This CSS rule was applied to account for the safe area and prevent content from being hidden under the address bar, but it did not solve the overlapping issue. Scroll Position Adjustment (for scroll-to-top button): Adjusting the scroll behavior by changing the scroll position to {top: 1} instead of {top: 0} was a successful workaround to keep the address bar collapsed when clicking the "scroll to top" button. However, this did not resolve the issue when navigating between pages or changing routes, where the content still overlaps the collapsed address bar.

XMLHttpRequest cannot load https://demo2.artios.cz/app37g/v105/php/endpoint.php due to access control checks
Hi, we are experiencing a strange issue with our Web App. Our web app runs entirely on the same domain , and we are making several AJAX requests to the same server. The Error occurs only on Iphones, the app works completely fine on androids and computers. Most of the requests work fine, but suddenly, one specific request always fails with the following error: XMLHttpRequest cannot load https://demo2.artios.cz/app37g/v105/php/endpoint.php due to access control checks What we have checked so far: ✅ CORS headers seem correct. Also we operate entirely on the same domain, client and server. ✅ The same request works fine in computer and android devices. ✅ The issue occurs only on iPhone (tested on Chrome and Safari). ✅ Some requests to the same endpoint pass, but suddenly, this specific request always fails. ✅ There is no OPTIONS preflight request logged in the network tab, but we use only simple requests. ✅ We are making a POST request with multipart/form-data. What is Your advice, or where I can find more info about this error? We do not think the CORS is the problem. We have tried to inspect with WebInspector but with no relevant answers. Thank You very much!

Safari Web Extension service_worker failed to load
I built and extension for chrome, edge, and firefox. I'm porting the chrome extension to safari using the safari-web-extension-converter tool. This has worked successfully and I was able to publish my extension to the app store. I made some updates to the service worker code recently and I'm now being hit with an error when trying to load my unsigned extension into safari: The service_worker script failed to load due to an error. I've looked online at some other forums and haven't found anything helpful around how to debug this kind of error. Because the service worker is non-persistent in safari, I don't have access to the console logs of the service worker through the Develop > Web Extension Background Context menu. Has anyone successfully debugged this kind of error? Are there logs I can pull directly from safari that would help me here? Thanks in advance for the help!

Safari cannot open the page. Error: Failed to navigate to an HTTP URL with HTTPS-only mode enabled.
I am currently operating an app using an embedded web server that communicates over local HTTP. Recently, when opening Safari, I started encountering the following error message: "Safari cannot open the page. Error: Failed to navigate to an HTTP URL with HTTPS-only mode enabled." However, I am currently in a situation where switching to HTTPS is difficult. Are there any solutions to resolve this issue besides using HTTPS? Thank you.🙏
