It appears this issue was solved by porting my Swift Playground to the iPad app (make sure to turn Show Results off), instead of using Xcode on Mac.

Hi! As in the Swift Student Challenge's terms and conditions, it lists Xcode 13.3 on macOS 12.3. I would assume that also includes later versions - so that means 12.3.1 is included too. The document also says it must run on either Swift Playgrounds 4.0.2 on iPadOS 15.4 or Xcode 13.3 on macOS 12.3. So either or should be ok!
