I have used the script step in a previous project (last used in like 2018), but when I tried to use that this time I get build errors and nothing changes. Is there a currently accepted best practice for automatic build number updating?

I quit the beta, relaunched it, and under Xcode->Settings->Components, told it to "Get" the ones that were sitting at "Fetching download information". They immediately started downloading.
