We were hoping to run the same test, and had the same experience. My assumption is that notifications of the price increase don't start going out until after the price increase takes effect (on April 16th in your example). And the users inside the notification window at that time will renew at the old price.
It would be great to be able to confirm that this is in fact how the system works. Were you able to learn anything more?
