I received a response to my appeal shortly after Apple responded to my message on this forum. They agreed my app should not have been denied due to "Guideline 4.1 - Design - Copycats" and instead indicated my app does not meet the requirements for "4.2 - Design - Minimum Functionality". It's an app for sports fans of two specific pro teams and contains schedules, face value stadium pricing details, fan chant lyrics and links to the official news sites of the sports teams.
