Why Xcode can't do anything the normal way?!
Seriously, how come that Xcode has to do everything the wrong way, in the opposite to every normal IDE and solution that has been introduced over 10 years ago. We have been dealing for so many years with the insane xcodeproj format, so to ease the pain they've introduced JSON format. Sounds like an improvement, right? Not really, instead of using regular JSON, they decided to use JSON5 making it icompatible with 95% of CLI tools & automations like the famous jq tool. They could have solved all the issues with xcodeproj, but they decided to only make PRs more readable and introduce thousand other issues which will require building another wrappers and tools to manage the project format. On top of that, they're building CLI tool to interact with the project: xcrun xcodeproj, but instead of providing the output in a parsable way like using regular JSON (like every normal CLI tool would), they print everything in human-redable way in columns, etc. which makes parsing it miserable. I can't comprehend how it happens that they don't learn from their own mistakes of reinventing the wheel by using rectangular shape...

Hinge listeners don't work in Keyboard Extension on iPhone Duo (iOS 27.1)
Hi, I've discovered that my Keyboard Extension is unable to detect any hinge status update on iPhone Duo. I tired both UIKit and SwiftUI approach - nothing works. Is there any workaround to make it work? Reproducible demo: https://www.icloud.com/iclouddrive/0460exMJtAdRkpk8EDjb751nw Xcode 27.1 (27A9269) iOS 27.1 beta 1 (24A94401) I also created a bug report: FB24883137

New simulators do not show up in Device Hub
Xcode is completely broken since I installed Xcode 27.1 Beta for the first time. Since then every Xcode I installed is unable to properly install simulators. Even though the SDK appears as installed in settings: Device Hub doesn't show it: To fix it I have to manually add SDK image using "xcrun simctl runtime add" and then play with a couple more commands. I've just installed Xcode 27.2 with iOS 27.2 SDK and again the same problem: There is a problem with signature: Any idea how to fix it, so that I don't have to install it manually every time...?

iPhone Duo - Current SDK State
We are just 9 days before the iPhone Duo release, and the SDK is still in a pretty bad state, at least for the Keyboard Extension: Hinge detection doesn't work Reserved area detection doesn't work needsInputModeSwitchKey returns false even though iOS doesn't display its own globe button Switching between closed and fully open state loses text field focus and the keyboard disappears (regression bug - it worked in Beta 1) It's unacceptable that, with such a short release date, we still don't have a stable SDK... I expect the iPhone Duo release to be one of the buggiest releases Apple has ever done.

iPhone Duo - globe button appeared in RC 1 - intended change or bug?
In Xcode 27.1 RC 1 the native keyboard layout has been changed and now it shows the globe button. It looks like a bug but I'm not sure. Is the keyboard going to display the globe button in the final release? On top of that, the keyboard extension tells not to show its own globe button, so it's another point confirming that this is RC 1 regression bug. Xcode 27.1 Beta 1: Xcode 27.1 RC 1:

Dismiss/Close button - leading or trailing edge?
What is the recommended position of the "X" button dismissing a modal sheet on iOS? When we have "X" and "✓" the case is easy, but what if we just have "X" button? For example, on a "What's New" screen. I found guidelines here: https://developer.apple.com/design/human-interface-guidelines/sheets Based on resizable sheets presented there, the "X" button should be on leading edge. However, iOS is inconsistent and sometimes it presents the button on the leading edge and sometimes on the trailing edge. How do you approach it? Do you prefer having it on the leading or trailing edge? SwiftUI provides ToolbarItem(placement: .cancellationAction) , but it doesn't feel like the right placement. cancellationAction sounds like something for actionable sheets when we have something to be cancelled. I'm missing placement: .dismiss :).

My macOS app is getting closed by the system
Hi, I've been trying to resolve an issue that my users are facing for about one year, but I haven't been able to so far. That's why I'm turning to you all for some ideas. Some of my users have noticed that my app suddenly exits. It runs in the background as a menu bar app, so when they go to use it, they realize it's no longer running. I've checked Crashlytics and asked users to check their Console app for crash reports, but there are none. The conclusion so far is that it's not a crash, but a silent termination. I haven't experienced this on my own machine, which makes it incredibly difficult to debug or identify the cause. Recently, I thought I'd pinned down the problem. My app was declaring: <key>NSSupportsSuddenTermination</key> <true/> Based on the documentation, this is intended to quickly terminate the app during logout or system shutdown, but I read it can also be triggered when the system needs resources. It seemed like the perfect root cause. However, even after turning it off, one of my users is still experiencing the problem. I'm officially running out of ideas. Does anyone have suggestions on what else I should check? My app currently declares: <key>LSUIElement</key> <true/> <key>NSSupportsAutomaticTermination</key> <false/> <key>NSSupportsSuddenTermination</key> <false/>

NSApp.activate() does not work with menu bar (background) apps
NSApp(ignoringOtherApps:) is deprecated but there is no other working alternative for menu bar apps. NSApp.activate() does not work when no app windows are active and we want to show a window from a menu bar application. Making it impossible for the app to open a window and make it active. Is it really an intended behavior? Here is a sample project showing the issue: https://github.com/wojciech-kulik/macos-menu-bar-bug Steps to reproduce: Run the app. Focus some other app like Finder or Safari. Click on the app's menu bar icon and select "Open". The app window will appear below the other app's window, instead of being brought to the front. NSApp(ignoringOtherApps: true) works as expected though. I also created a feedback ticket: FB23508310

Localization doesn't work in watchOS widget configuration intent
Hi, I have a problem with watchOS widget configuration intents. It turns out that watchOS is unable to load text for localization keys. This is how I set configuration parameter in WidgetConfigurationIntent: @Parameter( title: LocalizedStringResource( "watchWidgetConfig.showSymbols", defaultValue: "Symbole", table: "WidgetLocalizable", bundle: widgetBundle ), default: true ) var showSymbols: Bool Unfortunately, on a device always the defaultValue is used. I tried everything and nothing works. What's weird, it correctly works on watchOS simulator and if you configure widgets in iOS "Watch" app. On real Apple Watch, the "defaultValue" is displayed. I'm not sure if it's important but both: the Swift file with WidgetConfigurationIntent and WidgetLocalizable.xcstring are included in two targets: Watch Widget Extension and Watch App. I tried so far: All variants of LocalizableStringResource init. With/without "table", with/without "bundle". Previously I had texts in Localizable.strings, I migrated it to WidgetLocalizable.xcstrings and it didn't work either. Setting only one target for WidgetLocalizable.xcstring and WidgetConfigurationIntent. I checked inside xcarchive to see if WidgetLocalizable.xcstring is copied correctly. Seems like watchOS bug, but I would be happy to know if someone figured out any workaround. Xcode: Version 26.4 (17E192) iOS 26.4.1 watchOS 26.4 I already created a ticket: FB22509406

Custom keyboard while using external keyboard for iPad
Hi! I'm developing a custom keyboard and my user reported that they can't switch to my keyboard while using external original iPad keyboard. Unfortunately, I can't test it on a real device and I can't find a way to test it using a simulator. My questions: Is it possible to simulate this case on a simulator? Is it possible to temporarily show a custom keyboard while using an external keyboard on iPad? I saw in the photos that this keyboard has a globe button, but my user told me that nothing happens when they hold or press hit.

xcodebuild is very slow unless you set CODE_SIGNING_ALLOWED=NO"
Incremental builds using xcodebuild are very slow, around 3x slower when compared to the same build using Xcode. Recently, I discovered that CODE_SIGNING_ALLOWED=NO" fixed the issue, but of course, I can't then run iOS app. It seems like automatic signing using xcodebuild is somehow broken. Therefore, I think I could set CODE_SIGNING_ALLOWED=NO" and sign it manually later. However, I'm not sure how to do that. I checked what Xcode does and it's: /usr/bin/codesign --force --sign - --entitlements /Users/wkulik/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/XYZ-hblnhsksxjrctzekqmlevcflnsji/Build/Intermediates.noindex/XYZ.build/Debug-iphonesimulator/XYZ.build/XYZ.app.xcent --timestamp\=none --generate-entitlement-der /Users/wkulik/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/XYZ-hblnhsksxjrctzekqmlevcflnsji/Build/Products/Debug-iphonesimulator/XYZ.app However, if I run xcodebuild with disabled signing I don't have XYZ.app.xcent required by this command. I also tried: codesign --force --deep --sign "Apple Development: John Snow (XYZ)" /Users/wkulik/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/XYZ-hblnhsksxjrctzekqmlevcflnsji/Build/Products/Debug-iphonesimulator/XYZ.app but the app immediately terminates (the same way like when unsigned). Could anyone help with that?
